VideoStudio :: Video Source Setting Won't Always Stick
Dec 8, 2010
Eventually I can get it to work but sometimes only after many (10-20) tries. Very frustrating since it is possible - just not reliable.
When I am in Capture (Visual Studio SE DVD ver 10) and go to Options - Video and Audio Capture Settings and try and select S Video (default is Composite), it seems to take but after clicking OK and the Change Field Order window pops up and does its thing, it frequently will not 'take'. I repeat numerous times until it does take so it is possible.
Any configuration file that holds the default settings for this so I can set S Video as the default instead of Composite. Then (I assume) the problem wouldn't matter.

What's the best format to use when transferring VHS tapes to my p.c? I've tried AVI but an average tape takes up to 400Mb on my hard drive which seems excessive. The VHS tapes mainly have films and documentaries the majority of which will be deleted once I've watched them on my PC.

In VS X4 we do not have the ability to match the project properties to the specs of the source video. When editing "project properties", we only have two choices for compression (NTSC DVD and PAL DVD) which only allow a maximum resolution of 720. In X2 we had many more choices which included MPEG-2 where we could get up to 1920.
I thought it was rule number one to match the project properties to the source video. Maybe that is not so important anymore, but snapshots for freeze frames must be done in project mode to include any attributes. The resulting snapshot is the resolution of the project properties and therefore not the same as the orignal video. Once rendered, it will not look the same as it's parent frame. Maybe freeze frames are not important to anyone else, but they are to me.
I shoot with a Canon HV20, so I need 1440x1080. I have created an empty project in X2 with the correct properties that I use to start projects in X3 and X4. X4 appears to maintain the project properties once they are set.

I'm having problems trying to set the video resolution on both of my copies of VS Pro X4. The captures I'm using are 16x9, and when I select a thumbnail and play it, the clip first displays as 4x3 in the preview window, then when it starts playing, it goes to 16x9, but when I put the clip in the video track, it displays and plays in 4x3... even after I change the Project Properties to 16x9, it still does the same thing.
I have recently taken some of the same files and created a 16x9 optimized MPEG in the share menu, but for some reason, I'm unable to do it again. I have had problems with my capture device, and haven't used VS Pro X4 for a while, but now I have a new methodology, and am back to working with video, again. Some of the things I did before, are now forgotten... I'm sure the answer is somewhere on this site, but so far, all of my searches and reading have only offered the things I have already done, and so far as I can tell, that doesn't work. At this point, I can't remember if the editing I did before, was displayed in 4x3 or 16x9, but the DVDs I have burned are definitely in 16x9, but the last one was definitely 4x3.

I have a JVC Everio GZ-HM320BU HD video camera. I'm using Corel VideoStudio Pro X4.
Each year, I record our X-Mas present opening but I didn't realize that HD files get extremely large (new camera two years ago). I make DVD movies for all the kids every year, but I can't remember the process I did for 2010.
What steps do I need to do to take an existing AVCHD MTS file, (time 1:14:11, 2.44 GB, frame width 1920, frame height 1080) and change it to fit on a DVD?
If I need to change it to a non-HD format, I have no problem with that. I just forgot how I did it before.

I'm in the process of evaluating several video editing programs. So far I've used AVS Video Editor, Cyberlink Power Director and Adobe Premiere. With each program I've spent 30 minutes making a quick demo video to see how intuitive it is and how well it performs. Today I downloaded Corel Visual Studio and decided to give it a go.
I've run into a problem straight away.I've tried to import raw avi files. So I'm using the "Select Import Source Folders" screen. When I navigate to the folder containing the files the OK button is greyed out and won't work. It's greyed out all of the time.

I have signed up with the cloud service, Feb 2014. I have downloaded Premiere Pro and am going through training tutorial (the Eagle doco). I have downloaded and imported the video into a bin but when I put it into the source monitor (top left of standard display), I see black but hear audio. I know the video is fine as can play from desktop. Have opened another project, using other source video I also know to be good, but same problem...no video visible in source monitor but audio ok in source monitor. This is a brand new Premere Pro installation. Is there a settings change I need to make?

just purchased PaintShop Pro X3 and VideoStudio X4. I have a Panasonic camcorder which writes to mini DV tapes and has Firewire output. I previously did my editing using iMovie on an ageing Macbook. My new Windows 7 laptop doesn't have a firewire port therefore I was hopeful of capturing the raw footage on the Mac and then importing it into VideoStudio on the Windows laptop. When I try and import the .dv files created by iMovie I get the error 'File format mismatch'.
The videos play fine on the Windows laptop so I don't understand why VideoStudio can't read them.
I was thinking I could perhaps use something to convert the videos to a format readable by VideoStudio.

I cant find a way to work with onbe source at Video track and another in the Overlay track... I need to sync both files and do the cuts for the show to work better.

I recently purchased Video Studio Pro X3 - and after going through the knowledge base and product read me, I have been unable to find an answer to the following problem I have:
PROBLEM:
I have a number of videos (HD 1080p) that I have recorded. Each video is on average 50 minutes in length - what I want to do it to be able to do is to slice this video into 10 x 5 minute videos (based on topics discussed in the video), (so essentially clip the video into these segments and edit each one) and then when producing the video file - actually create 10 separate video files (all with editing in place) instead of one single large file.
As far as I have been able to work out, I need to go through the whole file, clip relevant sections, edit them, and then save project. I then need to go trim the saved file 10 times, to extract each time the single 5 minute video I want to create. This is a fairly manual and time consuming process, hence my hope that I can create 10 files based on the clips I have made in the larger 50 minute file in one go.
as I have 30 videos to edit, so looking for ways to save time!

I have just installed trial of VideoStudio Pro X4 and have owned the X2 version for some time already. Although I can always save a video file in HD format (1920x1180) I think it's best if the 'Project Settings' are already at this resolution. I was always able to set project resolution in version X2 but seems I can't in the new version X4. I think it's because I can only set the 'media type' to DVD in version X4. see attached picture. Is this because I only have trial version or is there less functionality in the new version?

I've created a 23-minute video I want to burn to DVD in VS Pro 5...
At the point where I select BURN in the burning process, I get hit with a message telling me that my working folder path "may not have enough space" to allowing burning. The message advises me to change the working folder path in Preferences to enable burning. The message notes the working folder path as C:Users[My initials]DocumentsCorel Video Studio Pro15.0...
That path does exist on Drive C (where there's only around 5 Gig of space left), but when I go into Preferences to change the working folder, Preferences shows it having a path on Drive F (where there's 1.47 Terrabytes of space!)
So, how can I change the working folder path to Drive F from Drive C, when the project Preferences show the working folder path to be on Drive F, the the program itself claims the path to be on Drive C (and a search shows such a path)?
I'm running under Windows 7 Home Premium.

I am not yet an owner for VideoStudio. This program is on my short list of software I wish to use for screen capture (creating a series of tutorials for an online classroom) and I have to be able to produce these items in a minimum of 720P 16x9 format (Ideally would like to grab at 1080P but 720 is my absolute minimum requirement). Can VideoStudio do this for me? Do I need a specific capture/video card to be able to acquire at a 720P resolution?
I have a background in broadcast television in my day job, (I edit on Quantel and Apple FCP) and what I like about this software is that it's an "all in one" solution.
PS. running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, 8GB RAM, NVidia GeForce9600GT card

Elsewhere in the forum I have a topic about sound echo, and a fix was to render a clip using the same project properties it was recorded with, at least regarding audio.
When I load X5, without a project or clip in the timeline - the project preference audio format is LPCM even tho the camcorder I use records dolby audio. I can open and edit the project preferences to change LPCM to dolby, and I can also check settings/enable 5.1 surround sound which does the same thing, but that setting won't survive an X5 program close. One would think that editing the properties like that and selecting OK at the end, the changes would have been saved and become the default. But when I next open X5, the project audio is again set LPCM.
As part of investigating the echo issue I uninstalled and re-installed X5 without any impact on the audio issues, which includes this one.
How can I set the project settings for audio so that the default is dolby and it lasts thru a close and the next X5 open?

I recently had to reinstall Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 because of some missing/damaged files (long story). Anyway, I downloaded Title Pack 6 so I had some more, well, titles. Afterwards, when I tried to use the new titles, after moving them to the timeline and double clicking to edit the text the problem starts...
1) There is no text box to edit text or the text box is REALLY tiny (so tiny I cant resize it) and tucked away in the top-left corner of the preview box.
2) The font defaults to a ridiculously high setting (~150-200).
3) When I try to type something in, nothing happens.
4) When I click off the text box I get an error message saying "Font Apply Error!".

I'm trying to use the Video Studio X4 MPEG Optimizer. My problem is the Optimal project settings is grayed out. How do I get that option to work on my project. I am going through this book "Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4". In Chapter 13 under Using the Mpeg Optimizer the instructions say to use that option. The project has been built in previous chapters as an ongoing project.

With the installation of SP1 (VSX4), the options to create a blu-ray video file (assuming 1920x1080 only, though the same options exist for 1440x1080) are now:
Blu-ray (1920 x 1080)
Blu-ray H.264 (1920 x 1080P)
Blu-ray H.264 (1920 x 1080)
Now, I want to create a 'standard' Blu-ray disc of family videos. My camera is a Canon Vixia HF20, recording in 1920x1080 in the '60i' mode. The camera creates AVCHD formatted files. I know I don't want the progressive option, however, what is the difference between the other two options (is it MEG4 vs. AVCHD? If so, what should I choose when creating a new disc?). I want my disc to support as many blu-ray players and HDTV's as possible since I will be giving copies to various family members (meaning I don't want a format that supports only the latest releases of blu-ray players).
