I would like to propose a focused thread or forum exclusively for the discussion of all things Revit and Rehab projects. There are some very frustrating things that occur when using Revit to document architecture projects in conjuction with rehab work. I am of the opinion that this is a very important area of architecture that is currently not being well documented by Revit users, Revit software vendors, Revit training specialists or by autodek itself.
The world has a huge stock of existing buildings, how can we iron out the duplicity of work that is currently required in order to use Revit in conjunction with rehab/renovation work.
I am participating in a architectural design draft, regarding renovation of an industrial building. The building is only uploaded in .DWG and .3DS, which presumably means it´s origanally drawn in Auto Cad. But when i link the DWG (ACAD) file to Revit, it treats it like a component making it impossible to edit walls, windows, making cross sections, floor plans, checking room heights etc. Is there anyway i can resolve this problem other than learning how to draw AutoCad better ?
Here it is 2013, two years after Renovation mode was integrated.
Every once in a while, I have a residential renovation and try to use this Renovation Mode. Problem is using it with PN. Works great in The Construct, but try to create a View and then stick that on a sheet - And like many other Autocad features, there is painfully little to no valuable documentation.
The question: how do you successfully use Reno.Mode with PN?
I have a small renovation project. Was able to set the Existing, Demo & New work fine - in the Construct. But when setting up the Views (i.e. A Demo Plan and a New Plan) the whole thing falls apart - I can't figure out how to turn on just the Demo plan in the Demo View; and just the New Plan in a New View.
I am trying to get renovation mode to work properly. When i use it it seems to change item that existing to a new layer on color 8 (I specified color 8), but not to by layer. I want to be able to assign an item and have the color be set to by layer instead of a forced color.
It also changes everything in the drawing. Say i have multiple objects on layer A-Wall, it changes all those objects instead of just the one i select.
Im currently drawing renovation plans, sections and elevations, and i have a prexisting set of drawings, a after renovation set of drawings and would like to achieve the intersecting of this two sets with objects/lines in yellow for whats going to be demolished and red for whats being built and white for whats to remain untouched.
I started by setting a yellow color for the first set and red for the second set. And worked my way to the excrutianting task of breaking and setting this two sets of 2d drawings.
Is there a command or routine that allows me to break a line were two diferent lines overlap in the drawing. I was wandering if i could do that i then would only have to overkill the entire drawing..
So, I was told I needed to use Revit for my course, went on the website and found 'free student version, download now, it's great' or some such, and downloaded it. Soon after it came up saying I needed to activate the product, and gave no indication of how to do so, I left it for a while, then, there being little else I could do, until it came up saying my trial version had run out, and that I needed to activate right then. By then, of course, I had forgotten my password, tried everything it could have been, none of them worked, so I arranged to change it, turns out I have to change it twice, the first new password only working to change it again, so now I have had to make up some new password I will never remember, but anyway. whilst I was trying to convince it to let me sign in with my new password, I found that I could actually still get into the program, and so started work. Turns out I was working in the 'demo mode' and cannot save everything I have done, but now I have finally managed to activate the product and open the real version, but i still cannot save what I did before.
So, long story short, my work is in demo mode, I want to save it, is there any way of copying it into the real version that I can now access and saving it there?
I have a drawing model where I cannot create a filled region in one sheet, but on other sheets in the same model I can. the filled region appears but does not mask anything - it is transparent. Transparency is set correctly (to zero) and I have tried bringing it to the front.
I am trying to place HVAC duct work in Revit 2014, and every time I draw the duct work I get a error message: A serious error has occurred. The current action hase been canceled. It is strongly recommended you save your work in a new file before continuing.
Is there a "BUG" in the systems side of Revit 2014, I have downloaded the Release 1 and the service pack 2 (which that is crap also).
When I click on search, my computer opens the notepad application and the error message says "the filename, directory name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect." I cant go to the videos or the wiki directly from revit either. None of the resources on the right side of the screen are accessible. I do have the educator version of the software. I have tried to reinstall from the application, but have not uninstalled and reinstalled completely.
How does the Cost parameter in materials work in Revit? I know you can set a value for a cost. But what amount of that material is the cost associated with? For example, if I set a cost 3.00 for Common Brick, is that 3.00/unit, 3.00/sq. ft., etc?
I'm trying to use a point cloud in Revit, and I can't make Snap to Point Cloud work.
The "Snap to Point Cloud" box in Manage/Snaps is checked, but there is no snap available when I eg. try to insert a wall in plan view.
I use Revit Architecture 2012, Build 20110916_2132(x64) Update Release 2 with Point Cloud Hotfix installed. The point cloud is indexed in Revit from a .pts file.
I need to create a sloped roof. I want to base this roof upon a beam system created using a sloped work plane rather than offset from a level. I now understand that (for some reason) Revit will not create floors or roofs using work planes, but only on levels, and I know that I can create a flat roof on a level and apply slope arrows and adjust the offset height, etc. etc. but that is very imprecise (lots of micro adjustments) and a lot of steps.
Isn't there any way to create a floor or roof using a work plane as the level?
The attached image shows a roof I created "by face" from a box mass element I set on the plane - unfortunately now I cannot edit the outline to get it to fint my non-rectangular roof.
Using Revit 2012 Architecture (64-bit) and Revit 2013 (full version, 64-bit) both gave the same problem. The problem is as follows.I have gotten a Revit file from my university and I need to make a schedule for two type of windows that consists of Family, Type, Count, Cost, and Total cost. This is not really a big deal, just add the parameters to a schedule, sort by family and type, uncheck "itemize every instance". Then create a calculated value called "total costs" with formula "cost" and type set to currency. Then in formatting go to the just created "total costs", check calculate totals and click ok.
Now there should be a schedule with the family, type, count, costs and total costs. But costs stays black and therefore total costs is 0,00.To my knowledge windows have a certain cost associated with them that comes from a database that has values for all structures in revit. So my guess is that database isn't there or for some reason it doesn't work. The file is 100% reliable, since my university supplied it to me and it works for others using the same version of Revit. Also this problem does not only occur with this file or just windows, the cost fields always stay blank. As mentioned the problem occurs on both Revit 2012 architecture (64-bit) and Revit 2013 (full version 64-bit).
I am having some issues getting a shared Volume parameter to work and report in a tag correctly. I can get the tag to report a value, but it is reporting the a value based on default values of the column (9*2*2) and not the value of the actual column (shown in the properites). Also, the tag I create reports a question mark, not the volume calculated. I've tried this a million times so it could be I have crossed up a parameter somewhere.
When I try to create a filter, I cannot get the Filter Rule to work. Under Filter by there is an option to select More Parameters which then directs you to Project parameters. When I select a parameter, it does not show up in the 'Filter by' box so I can create the rule. I have used this feature in 2011, but I cannot seem to make it work in 2012.
Is there a way to report the total internal area for a building ? As in - the total area of a building up to the internal face of the external wall (including all internal partitions and walls).
We can use the Gross Building Area - but this includes the external walls - and doesn't update as the external wall envelope is added to. Ideally we would like a like reporting on the total internal area as the design / model is progressed.
We are working in our office on a central model. the model is stored on a local server within the office premises. We are three people working on it. our problem is this when we open the central file on any of our computer "create New local" check box is inactive. but when one of us login as "Administrator" and then open central file in any of the remaining two computer the " Create New Local" is active.why this is happening and is there any way we can work with the file without loging in as Administrator.
I am project coordinator on a work sharing project. As such I am responsible for family creation and Project Standards and need to have these items editable. I can select them all and make them editable but they always get changed back to none editable? How do I check these out until I relinquish them?
I am learning to use Revit 2012 and having a hard time figuring out why basic drafting features don't seem to work with reference planes. Aligning more than a few of these one-at-a-time is time consuming - any way to extend multiple reference plane lines to a boundary line or object? I read your instructions for offsetting reference planes - when I select the reference planes button in the home tab, the options bar allows me to set an offset distance but I am at a loss as to how one goes about getting the line to offset - I keep getting the layout dimension when i try to click on the line!
I have a work set file which cannot open. A dialog box with 'Circular Chain of References' appears. When I expand the dialog box, the option to delete the errors are grayed out. They are issues to do with a floor plan, including a filled region and detail lines.
I have been working on this file everyday, so it's been saved and opened constantly, yet even the backed up files from over a week ago have the same error message. Even file which are detached from the central.
When I try to open the material browser in Revit 2014, the screen opens. But suddenly Revit in totally doesn't work and it says 'Does not respond'When i try to close the material browser the whole program closes and my work is lost unsaved.
In "Categories" of the filters window, it can be selected things which composes its mass, such as Mass Exterior Wall, Mass Glazing, Mass Roof. And these things can be clicked only after its mass become energy model.
I set up a filter rule of Mass Roof and applied it to V/G Filters of a view, but it did not displayed in Analyze Mass Model, the same as Mass Exterior Wall, Mass Glazing.
Possible to change/set the work plane while sketching the path of an in-place model? This guardrail extension is an example of where I would have liked to change the work plane while sketching the path because the path shifted planes. I believe you can do this in the family editor, but I could not get it to work in the in-place modeler. What I ended up doing (as an experiment) was to create masses and picked their edges to get the path I wanted. I would love to be able to have more control over the work plane, like defining the workplane by a face and then being able to move it relative to the face selected.
I'm trying to find a way of filtering the 'work in progress' section visibilities from a plan by view filters. The filter I use is 'Sheet Name' equal '<None>'. Then turning off visibility. It works when used in the Browser organisation filters but not in the view filter for the sheets.
I don't want to create a check box or dialogue box for the sheet as this will add to the required maintenance.
If I bring link in a dwg file origin to origin. The line work comes in correct and straight but in the wrong position.
If I link in a dwg file by shared coordinates it comes in in the right position but the dwg lines aren't straight if you move the mouse they jump around.
I am wondering why RPC content in Revit Architecture 2013 is not exporting, or linking when I open up the project in 3Ds Max Desing 2013. I have tried FBX, and linking that, as well as linking an .RVT file, =either "imported" the RPC objects.
Why doesn't 3Ds Max Design support these objects and is there any way to get them into 3Ds Max.
I keep running into a situation where I would like to be able to create an edge or a work axis at the intersection of a work plane and the surface of the part. I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.
How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?
Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?
I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.
The attached jpg shows the intersection in question. I circled it.
