I am trying to place HVAC duct work in Revit 2014, and every time I draw the duct work I get a error message: A serious error has occurred. The current action hase been canceled. It is strongly recommended you save your work in a new file before continuing.
Is there a "BUG" in the systems side of Revit 2014, I have downloaded the Release 1 and the service pack 2 (which that is crap also).
Possible to change/set the work plane while sketching the path of an in-place model? This guardrail extension is an example of where I would have liked to change the work plane while sketching the path because the path shifted planes. I believe you can do this in the family editor, but I could not get it to work in the in-place modeler. What I ended up doing (as an experiment) was to create masses and picked their edges to get the path I wanted. I would love to be able to have more control over the work plane, like defining the workplane by a face and then being able to move it relative to the face selected.

The images have been taken out but there are custom designed objects (masked shapes) where I am supposed to place my images. When I attempt to place a photo into one of the shapes, using the Place Command, it does not work.
How can I place an image into one of the objects?
I work for a small design/build firm that works primarily on large, custom residential buildings. The majority of our design work is done in 2D because the majority of our plans come in 2D from the architects.
I was wondering what the best way to speed up our duct drawing would be? We are currently running MEP 2014 but only use it for the straight cad portion of it. We don't have any blocks for the fittings or routines to draw multiple lines at once. We are open to pretty much anything at this point, whether it's developing or purchasing a set of blocks, lisp routines, plug-ins, etc.
I'm trying to create and add a block to our standards. A user wanted to make it annotative. Our company hasn't used them much. I think I'm starting to understand them better. It is just a simple HVAC symbol with two attribute definitions. The block I received was a scaled up block for 1/8" - 1'-0". I shrunk it down to normal 1:1 size to match what is would look like on paperspace with 1/8" text. Now to make it annotative.
- Do I add scales to it or leave it as is? The users may need need most of the scale that are defined.
- How do I save scales on the block for them to use?
When i click the arrow onto my container, a shape or letters for instance, my image just disappears. i do the exact same procedure in corel x3 and it works so it not user error.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded hardware and moved from Inventor 10 in XP 32 bit to Inventor 10 in Windows 7 64 bit. Previously I had an add-in that would place a work point at the CoG of a model. The new installation does not, and since I was not the original user of the old computer I don't know where it came from.
I'm assuming it was a 3rd party add-in or something that does not install automatically with the 2010 mechanical design suite (SDK tools maybe?). Any link or where to find this tool in the installed files.
I'm able to get Vanishing Point to work up until I place the text into the grid I've created. It then becomes too big for the grid so it looks as if the grid has cropped it.
it's supposed to say OCCUPY on the ground but instead it's getting cropped and you're only seeing part of it. The original type I placed into the grid was not that large. How can I make sure the text stays within the grid at it's original size?
I created a simple Part with some parameters to drive dimensions. Saved the part. I created an Assembly. Saved the assembly. Clicked Place iLogic Component. The Place iLogic Component window appeared Selected the Part. I can see the preview window (Part-01) & the parameter window... Used default values. Hit OK NO PART INSERTED! I didn't need anything too pro so i started with a rectangle and a circle, then started drawing a few interconnecting lines. I tried a few 3D commands, but none of my usual seemed appropriate. What loft does?

Last night I was editing an In-Place family and for some reason, Revit did not exit the In-Place Editor properly. The Modify tab was kicked all the way to the left on the ribbon to precede the Home tab. Is there a way to reset the ribbon to its default state because, the contextual tabs react to the new location of the Modify tab? I have attached an image.

I am having trouble setting materials for a kitchen countertop that i created by modeling in place. I think that it has something to do with the installation, and am wondering how to fix it. When I am editing the model, in the properties pallete I choose the browse button next to materials and this is what comes up:

I am trying to add geometry programatically to a duct fitting. This is because the content builder is incapable of correctly building some types of fittings. I found some old code from an Autodesk University class that shows how to add geometry to a AEC object. I have modified it a little to be able to work with a duct fitting but it does not work. The code compiles fine and runs fine without any errors. The geometry is just not added.

I'm following a "Simple Mass Creation" exercise in a Revit book, which says to create a cube, a sphere, and a pyramid. It doesn't say how, though, it just goes on to the next step of dividing the masses into floors. After much research and trial and error, I figured out the cube and sphere, but how the heck do you create a pyramid? At first I was thinking of a blend, from a square to a point, but that's not an option. Then I tried to use void shapes to remove parts of a cube...and I'm getting an error message because my voids are overlapping and there's no solid to cut. There MUST be a faster and less complicated way to create such a basic form.

I defined it's category as Structural Column, but it takes the fill pattern of the wall. When I isolate the column, it has the same fill pattern as the column from the library. I need that the column will be displayed as the other structural column.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a colleague who has counciled me that sometimes it makes sense to create mass-elements for complicated gabled roof elements. Since I am pretty darn new to Revit, I am bringing in some old 2D dwg information (plans and elevations) and I'm trying to use this information to generate an in-place mass that is my roof. I'm essentially extruding gabled roof information from this geometry. So far so good. But when I try to rotate this information I find the program unwilling to do this. I have a suspicion this has something to do with the fact this in-place mass is either being hosted by the intitial horiontal working plane, or it is "pinned" to something I don't want it to be pinned to.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a curtain panel family and loaded it into my project where I had created a mass and divided the surface, and changed the panels to be my curtain panel family i created. The mass has a curve that I want the panel to be on the inside of, but the panel is always placed on the outside. File is attached. So on the smaller curve on the north side of my building, the panels are placed on the inside of the building instead of the outside. How can I place the panels on the outside of the building along the curve?

Temporary dimensions are useful, but sometimes it measures a distance I don't have the value of. If I can't select the relative distance for myself, I have to place the window or door and then adjust the distance afterwards.

When I am in elevation view my controls are grayed out. Just wondering how to place a flip symbol on the elevations?! I need to fix the railing at the bottom to go down to 3'0, right now its sitting at 3' - 6"... AT 3'0" it needs to connect to the handrail that wraps around (the red)...normally I can just edit the railing by pulling it longer but since it was a place on host railing.. it looks like it loops around and when I tried playing around with that to extend the bottom rail.. it gave me an error..

I had this working just fine, then made some changes (including deleting some reference planes) and now I can't get it to work. I need to lock a diagonal reference plane to the intersection of 2 orthogonal reference planes, so that my door (on an angle) will slide toward the fixed corner, instead of the corner moving toward the door. It must be something simple I did the first time that I'm just not thinking of this time around...
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have an issue here where a user has N/S/E/W elevations of a building or radial type layout. Then there are sections derived from these elevations. If you open up the section pointing north and south you can place radial dimensions on the view needed. If you go into the section pointing east/west you cannot. It starts the command, just doesn't allow you to pick anything. I will post a sample file in a sec.
