Dec 20, 2012I am having trouble setting materials for a kitchen countertop that i created by modeling in place. I think that it has something to do with the installation, and am wondering how to fix it. When I am editing the model, in the properties pallete I choose the browse button next to materials and this is what comes up:
How do I set up the materials so that they are available to choose from? I have no other materials issues with walls, etc.
Revit :: Model In Place As Structural Column?
Apr 12, 2012I am doing the structural frame of a house with curved walls and I needed to use the Model in Place command to create a curve shaped column. I defined it's category as Structural Column, but it takes the fill pattern of the wall. When I isolate the column, it has the same fill pattern as the column from the library. I need that the column will be displayed as the other structural column.

May 10, 2012Possible to change/set the work plane while sketching the path of an in-place model? This guardrail extension is an example of where I would have liked to change the work plane while sketching the path because the path shifted planes. I believe you can do this in the family editor, but I could not get it to work in the in-place modeler. What I ended up doing (as an experiment) was to create masses and picked their edges to get the path I wanted. I would love to be able to have more control over the work plane, like defining the workplane by a face and then being able to move it relative to the face selected.

Nov 7, 2013We have a map created for our city with all our utilites, zoning, etc. plotted out and we have some very old aerial imagery attached to it.
Just a few months ago, Pictometry flew some new hi-res imagery for me. I have individual ortho tiles and one large ortho-mosaic. When I try to install the imagery, it doesn't line up anywhere close to where it should be on the map. How can I go about getting my imagery and my map lined up?
Photoshop :: 5.5 Extended 3DS Model - How To Place Correctly Sized Graphics On Model
Oct 23, 2012I've created a 3D product model in an application that does not have any text capabilities (Autodesk Inventor Fusion 2013). I'm trying to get that model into AfterEffects (AE) via the Photoshop live object technique.
But before I open it in AfterEffects, in Photoshop CS 5.5 Extended, I'm trying to add the product text graphics to the "Diffuse" layer of the model so, when animated in AE, all the text moves with the appropriate perspective, etc.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to format the text to fit the model.
Fusion saves files natively to .DWG format, but they appear non-standard and without some key data.
I was able save the file as a "STEP" file .stp, then translate to .3DS format. That file results in a model that opens just fine in Photoshop and when saved in .psd format, and opened in AE as a Photoshop Live object, works fine. I can't image getting the text on the surface in AE would be easier/better than Photoshop.
Each time I double click on Layer 1's Diffuse (texture) sub-layer (is that the correct term?), I can put some text in the new window, but the scale is always way wrong, the orientaion is 90 degrees off (counter clockwise), and the text is clearly trying to wrap and repeat all around the model. I'm just trying to get a set of text (several pieces in different locations - company name, product name, some small additional text) on one side of the surface bound as if it were part of the model.
As an aside, I did try to add the 3D model, converted to a .DAE file, to presets > meshes as suggested in the help files, so I could treat it like one of the 3D object presets, and add the text that way.
No matter what I do I can't get the mesh to appear in the pre-set list. I don't see any way to "activate" the mesh other than place the file in .DAE format in that folder. Yes, I've exited and re-started Photoshop many times.

Aug 3, 2012Can you print a model file to scale without setting up a view with a scale? Like in Autocad, you could print the model space to a certain scale within the page setup manager. Does revit have anything like that? Or do I have to set up a sheet view prior to printing anything?

May 8, 2012I am using Autocad LT 2013. I wish to use Autocad to draw subdivision lines and need to overlay satellite imagery (Google Earth or Google Maps) in tandem with Garmin GPS waypoints taken in the field.
In the 'type a command' ribbon, when I type in 'GEOGRAPHICLOCATION' and select 'Import the current location from Google Earth' (opens Google Earth, where you can retrieve a location to import).
Then a window appears which says 'Navigate to the location in Google Earth that you want to import before continuing (for best results, configure the view in Google Earth to look directly over the location that you want to import).
When I select 'continue' the command ribbon asks that I, 'select a point for the location <0, 0, 0>:
I have looked at the co-ordinates on google earth and attempted to enter but it does not feel right. Then says 'specify the north direction or (angle):s, then 'Point or option keyword required'.
Any way to have the ability to draw subdivision lines on satellite imagery. Garmin's Basecamp will allow drawing on top of google earth but I do not want tracks, I will only use the waypoints made by the gps device, but I need to draw measured lines that reflect the co-ordinates of the location.
Revit :: How To Literally Rotate Entire Building To Align Google Earth Image
Mar 19, 2012I have modeled a building that's a typical shoe box (rectangular shape building).
When I searched the address in Google earth, the true north of the site is not perpendicular to the building: it's angled.
When I chose "Acquire from Google earth" at the Site level, it gave me exactly what I saw in Google earth.
My question is:
I have finished the model of the building in Revit which doesn't align with what I acquired from Google earth. How do you align the model to the Google earth image? Do you have to literally rotate the entire building to align the Google earth image?
Also is there a difference between Google earth and Google earth pro for this task?

Photoshop :: KMZ And 3d Google File Import
Mar 23, 2008I have PSCS3 Extended and have downloaded and installed the Google 3D Warehouse plugin. I can access the plugin which takes me to the Google 3D website and I can navigate to and download 3D models. However, when the model is actually brought into Photoshop, it looks very strange. The model is only visible in fixed shape area that appears to be the shape of the initial 3d model. But when I rotate and move the model, it simply slides the view of the image inside the fixed shape area. Very strange. I've tried this with about 8 different downloaded KMZ (Google Earth 4) models and they all do this same strange behavior. Additionally, I downloaded Google's free SketchUp program. The models load and appear fine in that program. I've exported from that program, but the files still have the same problem when loaded up into Photoshop.

Jul 12, 2012I just upgraded hardware and moved from Inventor 10 in XP 32 bit to Inventor 10 in Windows 7 64 bit. Previously I had an add-in that would place a work point at the CoG of a model. The new installation does not, and since I was not the original user of the old computer I don't know where it came from.
I'm assuming it was a 3rd party add-in or something that does not install automatically with the 2010 mechanical design suite (SDK tools maybe?). Any link or where to find this tool in the installed files.

Aug 9, 2008I am starting a class this semester which is essential photoshop basics, my instructor has given us some tutorials to "play" with and get comfortable and told us to us use "stock" images from the net.
My question is this , where can I get free stock images of female models posing in various styles (nothing of an offensive nature) ? I am going to attempt a very basic fantasy art work using "light and darkness" or "good and evil" that sort of thing as the theme.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: SSM - Place Model View On Sheet Results In Crash
Jul 9, 2012Every now and then I'll have a sheet that will not accept placement of another model view from the sheet set manager. (There are usually two or more model views already on the layout). Every attempt will cause AutoCAD to crash. I run recover and audit and the problem persists.
Today I did something differently. I added a new layout, and successfully placed the model view on that layout (I accepted the condition that the layout was not part of a sheet set). Then I went back to the layout I really wanted the model view on and was able to place it without any problem. The significant difference I can see is that I usually have only one layout (I typically delete layouts I don't use which leaves only one layout). It seems to me that having one layout and only one layout while attempting to place a model view on it could very well be the cause of this random crash problem. I have not been able to confirm this yet but the next time I crash trying to place a model view, the first thing I will try is to add a new layout.

Aug 12, 2010Last night I was editing an In-Place family and for some reason, Revit did not exit the In-Place Editor properly. The Modify tab was kicked all the way to the left on the ribbon to precede the Home tab. Is there a way to reset the ribbon to its default state because, the contextual tabs react to the new location of the Modify tab? I have attached an image.

May 10, 2013I have a local drive that multiple people have access to and has hundreds of georeferenced images on it. I have an AutoCAD drawing with a shapefile of all the imagery frames with object data attached to the frames. There is way too many images to have them all in the drawing and causes the drawing to be slow and sometimes crash. What I want to do is be able to select the frame or frames of the images I want to import based on the object data frame name and import them. Where do I start?

Apr 5, 2012I'm following a "Simple Mass Creation" exercise in a Revit book, which says to create a cube, a sphere, and a pyramid. It doesn't say how, though, it just goes on to the next step of dividing the masses into floors. After much research and trial and error, I figured out the cube and sphere, but how the heck do you create a pyramid? At first I was thinking of a blend, from a square to a point, but that's not an option. Then I tried to use void shapes to remove parts of a cube...and I'm getting an error message because my voids are overlapping and there's no solid to cut. There MUST be a faster and less complicated way to create such a basic form.

Feb 21, 2014I have a colleague who has counciled me that sometimes it makes sense to create mass-elements for complicated gabled roof elements. Since I am pretty darn new to Revit, I am bringing in some old 2D dwg information (plans and elevations) and I'm trying to use this information to generate an in-place mass that is my roof. I'm essentially extruding gabled roof information from this geometry. So far so good. But when I try to rotate this information I find the program unwilling to do this. I have a suspicion this has something to do with the fact this in-place mass is either being hosted by the intitial horiontal working plane, or it is "pinned" to something I don't want it to be pinned to.

Nov 25, 2013I created a curtain panel family and loaded it into my project where I had created a mass and divided the surface, and changed the panels to be my curtain panel family i created. The mass has a curve that I want the panel to be on the inside of, but the panel is always placed on the outside. File is attached. So on the smaller curve on the north side of my building, the panels are placed on the inside of the building instead of the outside. How can I place the panels on the outside of the building along the curve?

Revit :: Place Objects Relative To Point?
Mar 26, 2013Usually when you draft, you need to place objects relative to other points. Is this not possible in Revit? Temporary dimensions are useful, but sometimes it measures a distance I don't have the value of. If I can't select the relative distance for myself, I have to place the window or door and then adjust the distance afterwards.
