Using Revit Arch to draw/sketch construction docs in 2D, not utilizing the BIM or 3D capabilities? We are a mechanical firm and one of our clients recently told us that they have not renewed their AutoCAD license, are using Revit ONLY and they would like us to sketch our mechanical design in Revit as well, again... not in 3D, but 2D.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to hide construction lines in Part & Assembly sketches in the same way you can in a Drawing sketch?
I know you can change the line colour to the background colour but this makes the lines invisible in sketch as well.
Not being able to hide the construction is making some layouts pretty pointless since relevant detail is obscured by the construction lines. Grounding the geommetry and deleting the construcion lines isn't an option since the sketches are part of the design development and not fixed.
I'm wanting to have vertical and horizontal construction lines already created whenever I start a sketch so that I can set symmetric constraints to the part I'm drawing up. At the moment, I have to draw both lines every time and constrain them to the center point. It would be much easier if it was already there when I started so I can start on the sketch right away. Is there a way to do this? I've included a photo of what I'd like to do.

Currently there are a total of 3 viewports in an L formation. The fourth viewport, will go in the upper right. But first, I have to get these aligned.
I think the viewports themselves are fine enough. The problems arise because the model is in Model space so, construction line (as far as I can tell) didn't want to snap to a line, (on the model,) in Paper space.(vertical or horizontal) So, I can only see the construction line, in one viewport at a time. Which means, the construction line is not visible in the viewport immediately to the left. So, I can't extend the construction line across both viewports, to to snap them to the construction line.
I have to rebuild 3d geometry from existing *.pdf drawings. What would be the best way to proceed?
I thought an option would be to import the *.pdf in a kind of layer, rescale it and sketch on top of it.
However the pdf importation fails. How to import a *.pdf in sketch mode?
Working on setting up 2013 for our department. By default we use the application option - Part Tab - of creating a sketch on the x-z plane upon new part creation. Now this actually works, problem is you can't draw on it, or you can't see what you are drawing. If you exit out of the sketch and start a new one then it works. I have found that if you switch the setting to the y-z plane is does the same thing. Switching it to no new sketch or the x-y plane and it works fine. Tying to determine if it's actually a bug in inventor or if it's just something with what I am doing or our template files.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI opened Inventor 2013 this morning to find this issue. Everything starts fine, I am able to open/create a part file and enter sketch mode, but as soon as I click a draw operation (spline, line, rectangle, etc.) it freezes on me. I have been using 2013 for a couple months now without issue, and cannot associate this with a change of anything on my computer.I have tried:
1) Restarting computer
2) Reducing graphics display quality to Rough
3) Checking "Software Graphics"
4) Calibrate my 3Dconnexion mouse
5) The diagnostic check for graphics card (approved)
I have no previews for just PSD docs in the mac finder for a week or so now. I can see other types of doc previews. I run snow leopard on a mac book pro that is about 2 years old.
Oddly enough the trouble BEGan for me after running a normal maintenance script in ONYX (I clean the cache about once a week or so). Could be coincidence. I just installed the little "patch' from adobe but that does not work. I can see the previews in the com/4 view but in com/3, where I usually hang out, there is no preview and pressing the space bar for quick look is the same, with no preview.
Just installed PS CS. on Win XP.

I do have Acrobat Reader and Distiller installed too.
How do I get rid of the silver header on my docs? I'm opening them as tabs but it remains?! Do I go full screen? I can't get my workspace to look like the tutorial videos?...

There seems always to be an uncompressed compatibility image in 32-bit PSD and PSB, and in 32-bit layered TIFF. That's regardless of Maximum Compatibility being disabled when saving. If Maximum Compatibility is enabled, there correctly is an uncompressed composite in the file.
If Maximum Compatibility is disabled, there's an overhead equivalent to an uncompressed image with the document's size. I reckon the all-white compatibility image is uncompressed! If any image should be compressed, that surely is it. What a ridiculous waste of storage space. An unnecessary consumption of hundreds of MB per document in many cases.
This uncompressed compatibility image would explain why an embedded 32-bit PSB which stores the IBL of a 3D Layer consumes the enormous storage of a large uncompressed 32-bit image despite it being compressible to a few hundred KB.
I'm trying to add some efficiencies to larger projects buy reducing the number of steps required to export to pdf. I'm looking to add a custom file name to the string.

Before the Revit purists come back with 'Revit is not AutoCAD' - A rectangle is a polyline, a hexagon is a polyline, and Autodesk has seen fit to include these shapes in the Draw Panel.
If I'm creating a component in place, say a cabinet door, and it's elevation is an L shape (or any custom shape - this is for a wall of cabinetry with odd-shaped panels), why, under 'Edit Extrusion', do I have to draw each custom shaped extrusion profile with these goofy single lines? The command doesn't even continue in a sensible way.
How can I draw a circle by entering a diameter measurement instead of the default radius?
View 5 Replies View RelatedRevit 2012 installed on the student computers. The computers are only a year old. However, they do have integrated video. The computers are capable of running Inventor 2012 with not problems at all. The problem that I have having is that when I try to draw a wall on Revit, a message pops up that says "An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window. This window shall be closed." It only happens when I draw a wall in LINE form. If I use the rectangle tool to draw all 4 walls at the same time, it doesnt crash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs the any way of saving settings for in particular base level and top level. Always defaults to the current view level for base - can this be overriden permanently. Same for upper level - what lvel does it automatically default. Stair by sketch often involves trial and error and redoing it each time because once done you cant change the levels, rise, width or change the number of segments governed by the path. It would be nice to not have to reset levels each time.
