Revit :: Detail Lines And Filled Regions Move In Exterior Elevation View?
Sep 5, 2012
What would cause lines to move left/right some seemingly random distance in an elevation view? Rarely, I run into an issue where detail lines and filled regions added to an elevation view (not text, or leaders) will move some random distance, I've attached a PDF showing the issue. No other elevations, plans, or sections have anything wrong with them. The model has not moved to a different position.

I have exhausted search efforts for only one filled region type allowed in a detail view.
What is strange, this trash enclosure wall displays the plan view filled region (referenced via callout), but when I try to show a hatch for concrete and a hatch for metal door, in elevation, the filled region changes "all" filled regions to what ever is chosen.
Then I tried a new circle to see if that changed things. same deal

Detail lines have global view settings - you cannot change appearance with a View Template. The Detail Items V/G category doesnt seem to include detail lines.
It is often necessary to use detail lines to avoid the chore of mading up a family to represent simple objects in plan or section - eg complex fixed furnishings like counters and shelves. Then when it comes to doing a schematic electrical layout where I want everything greyed out except the electrical content, I can use V/G overrides on all family content but not the linework. I have to pick all this invidually and then Override Graphics in View.
As with V/G template overrides, I dont want these overrides to permeate globally hence not changing line styles.

I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I made exterior elevations in views for a building and the interior partitions are also displayed. An exterior elevation should only display exterior walls.

I am creating a two-storey single-family house. The exterior wall assembly is Core Boundary, 3/8" Stucco (we apply a Stucco material to our Sheathing so in Section we aren't showing a finish material on the exterior), 5 1/2" <By Category> (our studs), Core Boundary, Air Barrier, 1/2" Gypsum Wall Board. We draw the floor system to the face of our studs and extend our walls to the bottom of the floor system, then when we join geometry the floor cuts out the wall leaving only the wall sheathing extending to the face of our floor system.
My problem is when I create a 3D perspective view with the camera my floor system is showing through the walls. It seems to thin out/disappear the larger the perspective view is on the page, but I can only make it so big on C-size page.
Is there a way to hide what Revit shows detailed behind the face of a material?(I tried hiding the floor system in my perspective view but it stills shows the floor outline, I'm assuming because it is being cut out of the assembly).

I have created a 'Title Block' family which I am wanting to use as a 'drawing stamp', being used to mark an existing drawing sheet carried forward to another phase of the project as being from the previous phase. To do this I have created a filled region with an opaque white background and a grey border (gray) to form the extent of the 'stamp'. I have then created a number of labels for the relevant information and added some lines as borders to the labels.
The problem comes when it is used on a project sheet since the label border lines do not appear. Since the commands to 'send to the back' or 'bring to the front' are absent when editing a title block I wonder why this is? Logic suggests that the only workaround is to create a number of filled regions, in jigsaw style, one for each label and to use their borders as the label borders. However, this seems an enormously long winded an probably kilobyte hungry way of achieving something that should possibly be very simple. I have to say that it may also have an easy solution that I may have used before but forgotten.

How can I move a detail view to another sheet in a drawing in 2009? I have only been able to copy the detail and it's parent view to the 2nd sheet and then suppress the parent view on the 2nd sheet so that only the detail view is visible.
However, when I go back to the first sheet and try to suppress or delete the detail view, it also deletes / suppresses the detail circle from the parent view.

How to draw filled region boundary lines that show up in any color other than gray? it is hard to distinguish the lines I am drawing from the lines that are already there while creating or modifing a boundary. Can I change the color of the Invisible Line (can't find that line modify)? OR does every line created thru manage line style have to have a weight (am I able to make a zero line weight or even a pattern that shows nothing.

My firm has tasked, yours truly, with transferring the CAD Detail Library to our new Revit Standards. I started out by converting our CAD details to Revit and saving them in one file in individual Detail Views. The next step is to convert the line weights to the new company standard styles and widths. I thought it would be as simple as selecting an old detail line type then “Selecting All Instances in Entire Project” and converting all of those line styles to the new standard in one fell swoop (rinsing and repeating until all the old line styles were up to date). However, Revit doesn’t allow you to “Select All Instances” of Detail Lines (oops). We have about 500 standard details that need to be converted.

I have made up furniture for layout views using the metric detail item template. Probably too many in this model category but it was a short cut to achieving presentation layouts. How can I now filter out certain detail items without zapping the rest. In this case it will be loose furniture but some fixed furniture is needed to remain visible in the next stage construction layout views. I want to do this by view template so that a) the view on sheet can be switched back to the presentation layout and b) keep the sheet as a revision rather than a new sheet.
Its not my preferred way of dong this but I am adapting to another architectural practices standard where sheet numbers are fixed and the layouts (GA's) retain the same number through sketch - tender - construction - as built stages (using a status sheet parameter and revision sequence)

I am in the process of drawing up an existing building and firstly am setting up with the building mass. I have managed to get the main bodys of the building done and the main roof. The problem now is that when i switch too the east or west elevations to add mass for the roofs on the adjoining wings of the building it wont let me see the model lines when i draw them in the screen i just get an error message " None of the created elements are visible in Elevation: East View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings. "I have my reference line set not far from the building and it seemed fine when i done the roof from the north and south views for the main building. I can see the model lines when i switch too 3D views but i cant create the mass from there.

Ive got a problem with creating elevations. When I create an elevation on my floor plan - in this instance level 5 of my 30 storey building I open up the elevation and see the attached view. Its crop region is only 3mm high and therefore only shows me the floor of level 5 instead of the whole elevation of level 5 to the underside of the level 6 slab.

2 part question:
1) How do I keep a section line from showing up in two different elevations:....have a section line in east elev.....it shows up in same spot in west elev.....but the view is the east elev....only want to see section line in east elev?
2) While looking at my west elevation, I can see things in the east elev, which is 100' apart.....how do I keep from seeing(and selecting!) things in the east elev while looking at the west elev?

I'm using a couple of masked regions to form symbol linework (so that it obscures background and shadows) in section.
In my screen family, I have a masked region that in theory could end up having a 0mm length - that obviously throws out errors.
The following screen grab shows the regions (at screen soffits) that are set to lock to the frame face and external wall face. Trouble is I have an instance parameter to allow the screen to fill the whole wall thickness (which also then toggles on architraves). This results in the 0mm. I have therefore done a slight 2mm overlap to avoid the issue, but this leaves a residual ovelap in the linework that looks ugly.
Setting the masked region to simply not display doesn't avoid the problem, Revit still 'sees' the errant 0mm.
Is there a way of having this masked region working in both options (ie when needed - locked to ref planes) and then not producing the error when the frame and wall are coplanar ?

I am currently modeling a 2-Story Home. I have everything modeled the way I want it, but when I go to the elevations I see a gap where the siding and the sheathing don't touch between floors.
My exterior walls:
Core: 3 1/2" stud + 1/2" SheathingExterior: Air Barrier + 3/4" SidingInterior: 1/2" Gyp BdMy floors: Main:
Core: 3/4" Sub-Floor + 11 7/8" TJI + 1 1/2" Rim-JoistMy Floors: SecondCore: 3/4" Sub-Floor + 11 7/8" TJI
The floors are modeled to the stud to allow sheathing and siding to extend. I knew of this situation beforehand because tutorials on the interwebs say this is the way to combat your problem:
I go into the my exterior wall, select edit type, edit structure, (set preview to section) select siding, and then zoom in on the bottom of the wall in the section preview. The bottom of the siding highlights and a "unlock" toggle appears. I unlock it. I do the same to the sheathing. Then I go to my elevations, cut a section, and zoom in to extend the sheathing and siding.
Side Bar: Why don't the two extend independently? They should.
To the top of wall below.

Part of the design for vinyl siding includes corner trim pieces, it's a standard application. We would like to show that in our models, how to creat a vertical sweep. Is there any way to add a small piece like this in a wall type? It must extend the full height of the wall, and appear only at the corners.
Also, in many of our models, we employ a dutch gable roof style on the front with a wood shingle facade. On the top of the shingles are vertical metal battens spaced evenly from top to bottom. I am wondering/ hoping if there might be a way to add this feature (battens) to a wall type.

How to use a 6" concrete curb under exterior walls for California schools? are you using a stacked wall, and if so how do you get the exterior finish to cover up the concrete curb. Or if you are using basic walls stacked upon one another, I seem to have trouble getting my wall joins to look correct in plan.
