I'm testing out a Revit Server configuration with a local server on one site connected to a central sever at another site. So far the testing has gone fine but we've run into a snag. The public IP address at the site of the central server has changed because of a change in ISPs. Now I'm unable to figure out how to update the IP addres settings for the central server that the local server connects to..
I've tried running the install again but it won't run since the software is already installed. I've tried running a repair. I've tried logging into Revit Server Administrator but there is no option to change the IP address of the central server it connects to.
We are trying to implement Revit server in our organisation. We have installed Revit server on windows 2013 server. We are able to connect to our local server and sync and relinquish the revit model. We had setup another server in our branch office. Now, how to sync the revit model in the local server to the server in branch office. We are able to see both the servers in revit server admin and also copy paste files through browser.
I am having an issue syncing to a central file over a vpn connection. I am able to vpn into a consultant's network and I am able to access the folder structure of the network by typing in an IP address into file explorer. I have mapped the network connection and I am able to consistently access the files. At the consultants office the files are located on NAS device and they access the device using the following nomenclature. \devicenamefolder. I access the same device with the following nomenclature. \ipaddressfolder. When I open the central file, the central file thinks that it has moved and is informing me to save the file as a new central file or a local file.
I am not a network guy but does this have something to do with the central file being saved with a unc path vs an ip address?? Is there a work around for this? Does the vpn need to be configured differently or does the consultant just need to save the central file by using the ip name?
My Architecture office is using Mac Pro's with OSX and Parallels to run Windows 7 and Revit 2011. We are having issues with getting everyone to be able to work synchronize to the Central File. If one workstation (workstation 1) intially creates the Central File, puts it on the server then creates a local from the Central File they have no issue when synchronizing to Central. However if another workstation (workstation 2) creates their own Local File it does not synchronize to central, it tries and an error of "File Failed to Save" pops up everytime.
The Central File location is the same on both workstations (ex. \psfFirmProjectsActive ProjectsProject# and nameConstruction DocumentsDrawingsCentral File Name}.
We have also turned off all antivirus and firewalls to elimnate that as an access issue.
how we may be able to get everyone working with Local Files, and Synchronizing to Central?
We have to do a project in Revit The residential complex consists of 6 free standing buildings of a maximum height of 10 stories. Approximately 700 apartments.(50 different groups)The Office building is a 16 story high structure with a stepped silhouette GFA of the entire complex is 100 000 sq.m. We use Revit Architecture and Structure 2012. The project team is 12 people
How best to divide a file?
What will be the best allocation of project work?
What to avoid?
Some materials that describe how to work on such a project?
How come Revit (and in my case 2014) requires a full UNC path (such as \serverproject01.rvt or \192.145.1.123project01.rvt) instead of a Mapped Drive path (such as Z:project01.rvt), which would ultimately cause issues to the location and access of the central file between users? Is it simply the way Revit is programmed to locate and access central files?
I would like to change address and country for receiving invoices. How can I change it?I have avaliable now only Poland as a destination country, but I live now in Norway.
I have in excess of 64,000 photos catalogued in Photoshop Elements 11 stored on a NAS drive in various folders such as: \10..253.20.37photo2013USA, \10.253.20.37photo2012Canada . The problem is that I have recently changed ISP & the internal IP address of the NAS drive has changed to \192.168.1.78 consequently the ‘location’ of files stored in the catalogue is now incorrect. I wondered whether I could do some form of update on the catalogue database file to replace 10.253.20.37 with 192.168.1.78.
We are running Revit 2012 Suites on iMac w/Parallels w/Windows XP SP3. Office file server is a Lion Server running 10.7.5. While working in Revit we can; save PDF's to server, export DWG/DXF to server, and for a few moments after opening a file we can save a .rvt file to the server. But after more than ~2min, Revit freezes at any save attempt and we have to force quit through the task manager.
Last few lines of journal entry for event reads as follows.
[ Jrn.Directive "DocSymbol" _ , "[Res.TemplateLionTest.rvt]" ' 0.000008 2:<<<BackupFileManager:reUnlockPreCommit ' 0.003275 3:<<<relinquishAllLocks ' 0.003386 2:<<m_oSaveToTempFile->preCommit ' 2:< Error encountered renaming main file to backup. Error message: Access to P:ProjectsXXXXX ProjectCADRevitRes.TemplateLionTest.rvt was denied. ]
then repeats the '2:< Error... line for a few pages..
this error has persisted throught Revit 2011 and 2012 versions.
Our office would like to create a new imperial library with typical families we use on most projects. This library would be located on the server and would be seperate from the Revit standard imperial library. This would allow us to all share family files and only keep ones we use often and ones we have previously edited and customized. Is there a way to link this imperial library to Revit without erasing the standard library, only making our custom library the primary one.
I am repathing all the autocad files on our server. I also need to repath the Revit Links. Is there a way to do this programatically? We have too many links to do this manually.
We have set up Revit 2013 and it works fine for creating folders and subfolders. I followed the Autodesk process step by step on creating a new file in the revit server. Everything is fine, but when I hit save an error message appears saying that the file cannot be saved. When I log into revitserver i see the new file, but I cannot delete, lock it, or use it at all.
How we can lock the files to be able to delete from the revit server?
As a side note:
Unless Autodesk is planning on getting rid of revit server they should really invest into the documentation and troubleshooting.
I receive this error when testing eTransmit for Revit 2013. "etransmit encountered an error while trying to contact the server". Oddly, it is only a problem with on host, and not the other.
I just upgraded the server for our small firm to OS X Lion. The share is accessible from Windows and all permissions are the same as they were before the upgrade. I can manipulate and open files in other programs in Windows, but everytime I try to open a .rvt or .rfa file in Revit from the server I get "Failed to open document". I can open .dwg files fine in Autocad, and I can even insert .dwg and images from the server into an open revit file.
See specs below:

We are working in revit server with two clients . recently we installed one more Lacal server and i checked the speed and all but whenever i try to open heavy file ( 300 Mb file ) from revit server it giving error after some time that server not responding and not open the file . but i checked 15 to 30 mb file it working in same server . Is their any size limitation in revit server . My internet speed is ok that time . So i think its related to revit server
I have changing the parameters of an inventor document using the inventor API by create an instance e of inventor and open the document, but it take more time .is it possible to use Apprentice Server to change the parameters of the document.?
My code is
Dim oPartDoc As PartDocument = inventorApp.ActiveDocument Dim oParameters As Parameters oParameters = oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition.Parameters() Dim oLengthParam, oWidthParam, oHeightParam As Parameter oLengthParam = oParameters.Item("d0") oWidthParam = oParameters.Item("d1") oHeightParam = oParameters.Item("d2") oLengthParam.Expression = TextBox1.Text oWidthParam.Expression = TextBox2.Text oHeightParam.Expression = TextBox3.Text oPartDoc.Update()
how can achieve the same method using ApprenticeServer?
After installing Inventor 2009, you may find that other software on your machine now has connection issues such as Apache Web Server, Skype or other servers/programs that are configured to use port 80.
This is because Data Management Server 2009 is configured to connect to that port every time you reboot your computer. If you go to your Windows start bar, select 'Run' and type in services.msc, you will see a list of services. Scroll down to 'Autodesk EDM Server', its' Status' should be labelled 'Started' and its 'Startup Type' should be 'Automatic', which means that this service is started when you turn on your machine, thus connecting to port 80 automatically.
You could change the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual', so that any of your other servers/progams that need to connect to port 80 will function properly, but that would limit the ability for Inventor 2009 and other programs that are configured to use port 80 to run simultaneously. You would also have to manually start this service every time that you require to use Inventor 2009 and the Vault.
If you don't mind EDM Server to hang onto port 80, but you're having connection problems with Skype, then change over to another port for Skype. Open up Skype, goto Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Connection. If the checkbox is selected for 'Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections', then uncheck it and restart Skype.
So, how do you configure EDM Server to connect to another port? There are four configuration files that need to be changed, so the default of port 80 is not used.
1. C:Program FilesAutodeskData Management Server 2009ADMS ConsoleConnectivity.ADMSConsole.exe.Config
4. C:Program FilesAutodeskData Management Server 2009ServerWebserverConnectivity.EDMWS.Server.exe.config
Change port value to 8081: <webserver runMode="service" port="8081" useHttpSys="auto">
You will have to restart 'Autodesk EDM Server' in services for changes to apply. This should eliminate your connection issues. Why Autodesk has decided to use 80 as the default port number without an easy way to change this through the console is just silly in my opinion.
I copy a .dwg to my remote computer and open it. Then .dwl and .dwl2 are created in same local folder as the .dwg I just opened localy. Then I copy the local .dwl and .dwl2 files back to the remote server in the same location I received the origional .dwg from. Why are those files not locked now from everybody on the network that I am remotly away from?
I have CS3 and use a 3800 for my work. Whenever I set an image to print the preview displaces the image to the left and up about 1 cm. no other application I have does this.
I'm using PSCS5.1 and when I open Bridge I get the message "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the Central Cache Preferences to correct the situation." where "Central Cache Preferences" are located? I found in Bridge under Tools the "Cache" but It does not say anything about Central Cache Preferences.
It would be really good to be able to use WTC from an iPad (I am lazy). The bad news is it uses flash so it wont work. Is there an HTML 5 version in the future?
