Revit :: Change IP Address Of Central Server?
Oct 19, 2011I'm testing out a Revit Server configuration with a local server on one site connected to a central sever at another site. So far the testing has gone fine but we've run into a snag. The public IP address at the site of the central server has changed because of a change in ISPs. Now I'm unable to figure out how to update the IP addres settings for the central server that the local server connects to..
I've tried running the install again but it won't run since the software is already installed. I've tried running a repair. I've tried logging into Revit Server Administrator but there is no option to change the IP address of the central server it connects to.

We are able to connect to our local server and sync and relinquish the revit model. We had setup another server in our branch office. Now, how to sync the revit model in the local server to the server in branch office. We are able to see both the servers in revit server admin and also copy paste files through browser.

Aug 16, 2011I am having an issue syncing to a central file over a vpn connection. I am able to vpn into a consultant's network and I am able to access the folder structure of the network by typing in an IP address into file explorer. I have mapped the network connection and I am able to consistently access the files. At the consultants office the files are located on NAS device and they access the device using the following nomenclature. \devicenamefolder. I access the same device with the following nomenclature. \ipaddressfolder. When I open the central file, the central file thinks that it has moved and is informing me to save the file as a new central file or a local file.
I am not a network guy but does this have something to do with the central file being saved with a unc path vs an ip address?? Is there a work around for this? Does the vpn need to be configured differently or does the consultant just need to save the central file by using the ip name?
Revit :: Central / Local File Synchronizing?
Jun 28, 2011My Architecture office is using Mac Pro's with OSX and Parallels to run Windows 7 and Revit 2011. We are having issues with getting everyone to be able to work synchronize to the Central File. If one workstation (workstation 1) intially creates the Central File, puts it on the server then creates a local from the Central File they have no issue when synchronizing to Central. However if another workstation (workstation 2) creates their own Local File it does not synchronize to central, it tries and an error of "File Failed to Save" pops up everytime.
The Central File location is the same on both workstations (ex. \psfFirmProjectsActive ProjectsProject# and nameConstruction DocumentsDrawingsCentral File Name}.
We have also turned off all antivirus and firewalls to elimnate that as an access issue.
how we may be able to get everyone working with Local Files, and Synchronizing to Central?

Jan 4, 2013My office uses Dropbox as a server for all of our working files. I can create and work with CAD files (using many x-refs) without a problem. The problem that I have occurs whenever someone else in the office tries to use the CAD file that I created with x-refs OR whenever I use a different computer station (still logged in as myself)...the X-refs are always missing (detached). I can reattach them but this defeats the purpose of using the X-ref. how Dropbox works.

We cannot seem to create more than one local file per Revit file even though we have already set up the file as a worksharing file. Is there some way to reconcile or combine the regular lrcat and the conflicted one? Or do I have to just start using the conflicted one?
I know this all has something to do with waiting for all the files to upload and download to DropBox, and I usually don't have a problem since the 2 machines are rarely in use at once...but sometimes I need to shut down quickly or perhaps I miss part of the transfer, so I'm really just checking to see if there is some way to reconcile when I blow it.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Save A File To A Shared Dropbox Folder
Feb 22, 2013I noticed that my computer was slowing up, BIG time. This thing's got dual quad core Xeon, 12gb DDR3, ATI FireGL V8600, etc. I could hear it processing something constantly and as I was in CAD I couldn't really do anything. When I opened the task manager and looked at the processes, "accoreconsole. exe" (an AutoCAD component) was using 10.5gb of memory. On my performance tab, my memory was maxed at 11.5gb for at least a half hour.
Today, I dealt with it all day long by ending the process whenever I'd notice it on the list of processes, or if the computer suddenly began to lag. I've also been having trouble with Dropbox. Not sure if this would at all be related but, if I try to save a file to a shared dropbox folder, it gets to 81% and freezes with the (Not Responding) message up top. I can save just fine to my network folder though.

All files are saved to the dropbox which is loaded on both computers that need to access the files. If I do work and save an xref in a file that is then opened by someone else on a different computer, the xref is not loaded and has to be re-routed. Is there a way to avoid having to reroute xrefs everytime someone different opens the file?

Oct 23, 2012We are running Revit 2012 Suites on iMac w/Parallels w/Windows XP SP3. Office file server is a Lion Server running 10.7.5. While working in Revit we can; save PDF's to server, export DWG/DXF to server, and for a few moments after opening a file we can save a .rvt file to the server. But after more than ~2min, Revit freezes at any save attempt and we have to force quit through the task manager.
Last few lines of journal entry for event reads as follows.

This library would be located on the server and would be seperate from the Revit standard imperial library. This would allow us to all share family files and only keep ones we use often and ones we have previously edited and customized. Dec 5, 2012We have set up Revit 2013 and it works fine for creating folders and subfolders. I followed the Autodesk process step by step on creating a new file in the revit server. Everything is fine, but when I hit save an error message appears saying that the file cannot be saved. When I log into revitserver i see the new file, but I cannot delete, lock it, or use it at all.
How we can lock the files to be able to delete from the revit server?
As a side note:
Unless Autodesk is planning on getting rid of revit server they should really invest into the documentation and troubleshooting.

Aug 22, 2011I just upgraded the server for our small firm to OS X Lion. The share is accessible from Windows and all permissions are the same as they were before the upgrade. I can manipulate and open files in other programs in Windows, but everytime I try to open a .rvt or .rfa file in Revit from the server I get "Failed to open document". I can open .dwg files fine in Autocad, and I can even insert .dwg and images from the server into an open revit file.

AutoCad :: Multiple Users Versus 1 File
Mar 14, 2013issue, more than 1 user needing to work on the same file. Of course this can create problems, like time mangement or users creating their own copies of files which leads to confusion about revisions etc.
I've looked into the possibility of using 'shared' files which updates edits made from multiple users but so far a solution has proved elusive. The only thing I found is called CadVault, but I don't think this does what I would like.
I got the idea from using shared Excel documents and it seems to work well, and IMO, CAD is the typical kind of application that requires this kind of manipulation, but I've never worked for a company that uses such a method. I'm baffled by the lack of information / support for this, unless I'm overlooking something.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Users Opening The Same IPT File?
Jun 19, 2013We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?

Aug 10, 2012My office is running into a printing issue, when different people are plotting off the same drawing file.
I've checked the .CTB file, all of us are using the same file, all .CTB parameters are identical, and no line weights have been set up within the layers, all are set to default, and no transparency has been used.
One man prints the file from AutoCAD2013, on a Windows 7-32bit computer, to our HP Laser Jet 8150N and his drawing comes out light.
I print the same drawing file from AutoCAD2012, on a Windows 7-32bit computer to the same printer with the same .CTB file and my drawing file prints dark. Much darker than his does.
We're having the same issue with other computers here in the office all printing to the same printer using exactly the same .CTB file. I've checked all the versions of Windows, and we're all using Windows 7 32-bit.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe we have different graphics cards as the computers have been purchased at different times.
