How come Revit (and in my case 2014) requires a full UNC path (such as \serverproject�01.rvt or \192.145.1.123project�01.rvt) instead of a Mapped Drive path (such as Z:project�01.rvt), which would ultimately cause issues to the location and access of the central file between users? Is it simply the way Revit is programmed to locate and access central files?

We are able to connect to our local server and sync and relinquish the revit model. We had setup another server in our branch office. Now, how to sync the revit model in the local server to the server in branch office. We are able to see both the servers in revit server admin and also copy paste files through browser.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue syncing to a central file over a vpn connection. I am able to vpn into a consultant's network and I am able to access the folder structure of the network by typing in an IP address into file explorer. I have mapped the network connection and I am able to consistently access the files. At the consultants office the files are located on NAS device and they access the device using the following nomenclature. \devicenamefolder. I access the same device with the following nomenclature. \ipaddressfolder. When I open the central file, the central file thinks that it has moved and is informing me to save the file as a new central file or a local file.
I am not a network guy but does this have something to do with the central file being saved with a unc path vs an ip address?? Is there a work around for this? Does the vpn need to be configured differently or does the consultant just need to save the central file by using the ip name?
My Architecture office is using Mac Pro's with OSX and Parallels to run Windows 7 and Revit 2011. We are having issues with getting everyone to be able to work synchronize to the Central File. If one workstation (workstation 1) intially creates the Central File, puts it on the server then creates a local from the Central File they have no issue when synchronizing to Central. However if another workstation (workstation 2) creates their own Local File it does not synchronize to central, it tries and an error of "File Failed to Save" pops up everytime.
The Central File location is the same on both workstations (ex. \psfFirmProjectsActive ProjectsProject# and nameConstruction DocumentsDrawingsCentral File Name}.
We have also turned off all antivirus and firewalls to elimnate that as an access issue.
how we may be able to get everyone working with Local Files, and Synchronizing to Central?
Is it possible to host a central file in Autodesk and use it for worksharing?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn ACA2012, we cannot use the Publish command to overwrite an existing DWF file of same name, for instance you publish a set, then need to re-publish and overwrite the earlier version. We get an error message that the DWF is currently open in another program...when it clearly is not open anywhere and Design Review is closed. We have several servers running different versions of microsoft server, but the results are the same to any of them.
We do NOT get an error message when publishing/overwriting to the C: drive, only a network path. Also, if we use the Print command instead of Publish, well it only does the current page but it DOES allow the networked DWF to be overwritten.
I am puzzled by what could be the difference in that Publish will not overwrite a networked DWF file yet Print will?
This has never happened to us in previous versions of ACA or Design Review.
I installed photoshop and it worked fine but after restarting my computer it wont open and gives me the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" The only way i have got on photoshop since is on safe mode or by completely reinstalling photoshop until i restart my computer again. Is there anything wrong, I don't know if AVG is blocking something or what.

So far the testing has gone fine but we've run into a snag. The public IP address at the site of the central server has changed because of a change in ISPs. Now I'm unable to figure out how to update the IP addres settings for the central server that the local server connects to..
I've tried running the install again but it won't run since the software is already installed. I've tried running a repair. I've tried logging into Revit Server Administrator but there is no option to change the IP address of the central server it connects to.
Using Revit 2014 LT. Trying to open a file created by another user/seat of Revit 2014 LT (trial version for now).
Error Message reads "The file is open for editing by another user. If you open the file, you cannot save changes until the user closes is. In this case, your changes will overwrite the user's changes. What do you want to do?"
The file is NOT open by another user though.
I realize LT does not allow worksharing, but I assumed that was multiple users working on the same file at the same time. We need to open files one at a time, but by different users.
I received this message:" Central model is corrupt and must be manually recovered" and do not know how to proceed.

Just to test it out I changed the lable of the second one to FILE PATH and the first one that I did to CLIENT NAME. When I loaded it to my project, the second label dissappeared and the first lable now shows.

I am totally new to Revit...basically teaching myself with this project. I need to create a ramp that goes from -1 level to ground, 12 feet up. I have created the walls for the path but I cannot, for the life, figure out a ramp. I have tried but I guess I don't understand how it works. I tried making a straight path with switch backs but I can't get that to work well either and that's not the design I want anyway. I copied the path of the ramp into a new file, which I have attached.

For example, if I try to open a drawing or attach an xref I select the drive and can see the folders in it but can not open any. I have no problem opening these folders through windows explorer so I do not think it is a permission issue. I am the only one in the office running 64bit on windows 7 (everyone else is on xp) We are using Civil 3D 2010.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOur company uses some third party software to track the number of plots being printed. In AutoCad there is an option to display the full file path of a drawing. I do not see the same setting in Revit. Only the drawing name is sent and recorded which makes it difficult to determine the correct project that should be billed for the plots (our project number is found in the file path).
Can this be enabled in Revit so the full path is sent when a user plots?
I'm trying to figure out if it's practical to use Lightroom to access/manipulate files on network attached storage.
Specifically, suppose I've already generated the 1:1 preview files, and these preview files are on the local hard drive. Does it matter then if the raw files are located physically on a NAS v. on the local hard drive in terms of the speed of Lightroom and ease with navigating from image to image?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWater main pipe network profile labels for structures do not attach to the structure properly in C3D 2014 (this same label style works fine in all previous versions of the software, through the 2013 release). The labels come into the drawing at a northing of 0 rather than attaching to the structure itself. However, if you grip edit and reset the labels, they reset to their correct attachment point. Additionally, if you attempt to grip edit the profile labels with Ortho mode on, it moves the label back to a northing of 0. I've created a new block for the structure, but that does not resolve the issue.

I am able to customize my quick access toolbar in Inventor 2014; however, when I close Inventor and re-open it again the quick access toolbar has been reset to what it was before. For example I will add "open from vault" and/or "iProperties" options to the QA toolbar but when I re-open Inventor I have to add them all over again.

NOTE: I am not trying to save to the network drive!
NOTE: Each test I'm doing is exactly the same (other than which network drive is connected)
NOTE: Just having the network drive connected with "Users" in the path messes things up!
eg.
Script does NOT run if I have an SMB drive connected with "Users" in the path, e.g.: [URL]...As soon as I disconnect the SMB drive (I don't even have to close photoshop) the script runs perfectly fine.The script also runs FINE with other SMB network drives withOUT "users" in the path, e.g.:[URL]...

Our I.T department uses kixstart to run a batch script every morning, which is supposed to establish a network connection. The connection is 9/10 times available. 1/10 times it fails and means that workspaces and other user defined settings are inaccessible.
Bringing up the issue with I.T seams to eparch on there skills as a professional so nowadays I tend to bring it up once maybe twice but then settle for ding it my self

If I were using the actions it would be SELECT ALL - PATHFINDER/MERGE.
I am using Javascript for a good amount of other batch processing and it would be great to just have one process.
