Revit :: Railing And Glass Baluster

Feb 9, 2012

I have this railing with glass baluster.  The glass baluster panel is 2'-0" in length.  The railing is not on a 2'-0" modular length so the last panel extends past the corner of the railing.  I can set the baluster placement to be centered on the railing which gives me a panel at each end that is extended past the corner.  I understand this is normal based on my what I am asking Revit to.  My question is, how can I get the 24" glass panels centered on the railing length but have the two end panels automatically adjust in lenght to make up the difference and not be 2'-0"?

Revit :: Getting Accurate Beam Placement?

Mar 7, 2012

I've been screwing around with beams in Revit for years and still have issues with the gaps at the connections. There is a shape handle and a structural component end. Either way, the beam decides where it wants to end. If I put two precast beams end to end, resting on an inverted tee girder that needs to have the 9" tee portion extend between the two joists, Revit doesn't like that and does its own thing. I move one, the other follows. I move both far enough away from eachother, then drag one end to where it needs to be, cool, then when I drag the other...boom...they snap together. Yes, I'm aware of the "start and end extension" in the properties window, this is incredibly time consuming and if one of the beams are switched around, I need to remember if this end was the start or end. In addition, the structural component end will go initially where it wants to, so there's no guarantee that if the parameters are correct, the beam/joist will be.

Can I remove all "rules" that beams have so I can place these correctly?

Revit :: Wall Placement And Temp Dimensions?

Dec 16, 2011

I am sorta of new to Revit. I have been using it off and on for about 3 years and I have one burning question. What  and how does Revit determine where the temp dimension is based off of when you are placing new walls? I have had the temp dimension jump all the way across a plan to find a wall that I drew 3-4 hours ago and has no relevance to the current wall I am drawing. The space I am currently on has a geometric relationship to the walls around it, not to a partition wall 200 feet away with no relationship to the current space. Yes I understand the building as a whole has a relationship to all parts within, but I think you get the drift.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Model Dimensions To Fill LENGTH / WIDTH Fields In Drawing Parts List

Mar 1, 2013

In our “Parts list” (or BOM as we call it) on our .idw’s we have field for “LENGTH”. For example, we use round tubing. We would list the cut length of that piece of tube in the “LENGTH” column. As it stands now, we add “LENGTH” as a custom iproperty in the .ipt. Then in the drawing we add that property to the parts list to capture the length. This works fine, but I’m wondering if we can eliminate some steps by capturing the actual dimension from the sketch to automatically populate the “LENGTH” value. Needless to say, this would eliminate room for error (less typing) and will update the value automatically if length is changed or if the part is copied. I suppose the same would apply for “WIDTH” on sheet metal parts... How do I do this?

Revit :: Rounding Up Length Parameters?

Oct 16, 2012

I am making a Schedules for metal flashings that i have added to my project. I have not had any problems using shared parameters to get the length of my line based families and everything is working fine.

But now comes the tricky part. I need to somehow add a parameter that would roundup my real lengths to my production lengths. f.eks i have couple flashings that are 2569mm And what i would like the schedule to show is that I have couple of 3000mm flashings.

Revit :: Distributing Photometric Web Along Length Of Bulb?

Mar 24, 2012

I tried to create a rendering utilizing the IES file from a light fixture manufacturer and I can't seem to get the photometric web to distribute along the full length of the bulb. It looks like the light is being distributed from a point in the middle of the light fixture although it is a 4' T8 fluorescent bulb. In the light family Light Source Definition, I set the Emit from shape to be a line and set the Light Distribution to be Photometric Web and set the Emit From Line Length parameter to be 4'. The distribution of the light looks correct, but just only from a point.

Revit :: Generic Models Schedules To Get Length Of Object

Jul 11, 2013

I am using Revit 2013 and I am wondering if there is any easy way of getting my generic model schedules to get the length of the object without having to manually type it in?!

I have attached 2 images to explain what I am talking about. I have created my own countertops and decided for scheduling purposes it would work best to have them as generic models.  As you can see from the "Counter Top Properties" image that it has the length of my countertop in the program, but as the "Counter top Schedule" Images shows I can not choose "Length" as an available field. I had to create a parameter for the length ("Length of Unit"), which is just a dimension parameter, and I have to type in manually what the length is.  Is there a way to get my schedule to get that length dimension automatically without having to manually type it in!?

Revit :: Family Instance Won't Extend To Full Length Of Line

Jan 22, 2014

I have made a Family that is based off the Metric Structural Framing - Beams and Braces template. When I import my Family into a project and create a instance of the Family (which is a channel) the channel doesn't extend the whole distance of the geometric line. Its always 1500mm long (thats the default length in the .rfa file). See below image for my problem:

I made my extrusion inside the Left Elevation view and not inside a Floor Plan view; simply because it is easier to create the complex geometry of it. Maybe this has affected its inability to stretch to the length of the line? How can I edit my family so that the extrusion will stretch the whole length of the line/beam?

Illustrator :: Cropping Of Excess Transformed Objects?

Feb 15, 2013

I have created a series of circles starting with a base circle then using two transform operations -- one to copy it down then another to copy the whole set across.  So that leaves me with a grid of circles.

I have created an irregular clipping mask to restrict the circles to within the area of the clipping mask (blue sploosh)

Everything looks fine in illustrator.  I have included a snapshot here with the clipping mask released so that you can see the objects being worked with.

The problem comes in when I go to copy & past that artwork into photoshop.  What I get is the full spread of (clipped) circles which messes up sizing inside photoshop.  The clipping mask hid the excess circles but it did not get rid of them.  I have further tried using the pathfinder crop tool but that doesn't seem to work with transformed objects. how I can get rid of the spare inner circles so they are really gone and not simply hidden by the clip mask?

Photoshop :: How To Remove Excess Gray Space Within Image

Feb 19, 2013

I have some large collections of images: columns of 8 to 10 images across with as many as 40 to 60 rows. These are exported from a program called CatDV Pro. Between each row is gray space -- my problem is that I need to reduce that gray separator between the rows to make a better visual display and also to get it to fit on the page of the book. I have about 30 to 40 of these image collections to process.

Some things I cannot do:  reduce the size of the gray separators in CatDV Pro -- not possible.  It is only possible to export the entire page of images together. Sure I could export each individual image but that would be a garganuan task -- not practical.

I don't want to cut and paste indivdual images or rows. Sure, it's possible but not at all practical.

I have tried Content Aware Scaling and it is not uniform enough. Some rows squish before others. I know about protecting some area in Content Aware Scaling but that doesn't seem practical either, not with 40 rows. Maybe I'm missing something there.

Here is a small sample of what I start with:

And here is what I want to end up with.  (keep in mind the actual files have many more rows):

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating Depo For Excess Soil With Known Outer Boundary

Sep 17, 2013

I have a known outer boundary for my depo for excess soil. I know how much (volume wise) is going in to the depo. I know that the slope is 1:2.

I do not know where the upper boundary (top of the depo) of the depo is. That's what I would like to find out.

I know that I can create a upper boundary with a feature line and then use the grading and volume tool in order to find out at what height the upper boundary is placed. But then the outer boundary is either too small or exceeds the known boundary.

What is the easiest way of finding out where the upper boundary is? I am thinking about drawing a feature line around the known boundary on top of the EG surface and then using stepped offset. Then I can check out the volume.

But is it possible to do this automatically instead of manually?
