I have an urgent need to calculate the foam fill inbetween two slabs on different planes. Also, the foam will come in 4x8' pieces. I am fairly good at family creation but am a little perplexed as how to start this one.

Trying to calculate a catchment area to allow me to size some culverts using Civil 3D 2012 Sp#1.
" The specified location results in a Catchment with no area."
After sitting for 15 miutes I keep getting the above message. The surface is huge and there is an obvious catchment area (or I think it is obvious). The surface was generated from contours and cover an area of approx. 8Km x6.5Km but the catchment ares should be around 15-20% of that area.
I tried another one upstream about a Km and it worked fine. So the one I am doing now should encompass the upstream area as well as from that point downstream to the Discharge Point.
What is the difference between rooms and areas? Why create an area schedule off 'areas' as opposed to using 'room' areas? Can you create a schedule off room areas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing which contains about 100 "areas". These areas are closed polylines. I would like to get a total area of all these polylines.
I have tried using AutoCAD 2002's AREA command, but I am only able to select one item at a time, (AREA, Add, Object). This is fine for calculating a few areas. It gives me a running total of each item that I select.
Using the LIST command works OK for a few items, but you still have to wade through all the other information to get the area info for each item.
Is there a way to select crossing ALL the areas that I have, and have it return a total?
I've been trying to calculate large areas using fills but I keep encountering a problem with some of the hatches not showing an area and thus ruining my calculation. I've found out that I can correct it by removing certain crossing point between lines as is shown below in my screenshots. Is there any reason this is causing a particular problem and can I avoid it to save me having to go back over my hatches checking for these malformed hatches?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've used GIMP to great effect for quite a while now but I know I'm taking the long way around on a lot of things because I'm not very savvy on CG stuff, so I thought I'd ask here. I actually was registered with Gimptalk but it appears to be gone? Anyway...
I am currently making my own 'original artwork' by using usually open source/public domain photos and such, and using transparent layers to "draw" lines over them, making my own lineart. My problem is that I can't seen to find a "turn antialising off" checkbox in GIMP.
Even if I did, I do some postprocessing in Inkscape to turn the lineart into something more smooth, and then it re-antialiases (is that even a word) the picture, and when I try to use the paintbucket to fill in the lineart to get simple color pictures, I get lots of white specks and dots from the antialiased edges of the smooth lines.
What do I need to do to a picture to make sure I can fill spaces with a color right up to the lines, AFTER it has been antialiased, in my example? I can't use duotone or index to 2bit color or whatever, because that bites chunks out of the black lines and also destroys the smoothness of the Inkscape processing, but even if I haven't used that, it still reduces the lines spottily.
I've tried turning the tolerance way up and filling the areas with white first, hoping the white and the near-white specks will be close enough to "bleed" together so I have one color, and then paint with the desired color, but it still has specks.
Also, how to do lineart to achieve the same results I'm trying to achieve. I'm hand-tracing over the lines by eye, which, though I'm good at it and it doesn't take long, is more time consuming than it probably should be, and tedious.
How to calculate the AREA of cut and fill analogous to the volume of cut and fill between surfaces, but instead only between the alignment and the road profile in the prolfile view. From what I've read of similar posts a few people have had the same question but have been instructed how to do it with volumes as opposed to area. Also how to insert a table of cut and fill area analogous to the one you can inset from the volumes dashboard.

I'm trying to rotate an image. Actually, I figured out how to rotate it. But I can't figure out how to fill in the "empty" triangular areas that represent the area between the edges of the original image and the horizontal and vertical edges of the canvas. I would like to fill these spaces so it is not obvious that the image was rotated. How can I do this?
What is the standard way to manipulate images in this manner?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble when tracing a sketch to convert it to vector. I have tried scanning it into photoshop first then exporting it to illustrator, and also just scanning in as a jpeg and opening it in illustrator.
The trouble I am experiencing is that the lines are not clean, but appearing very grainy. When i choose Fills I get the best result, but with Strokes i get 2 thin lines and obviouly no fill.
Either way I can make the color of the lines all the same, but am unable to create objects within the lines to fill with color, such as face, sunglasses, etc. I can do it with live paint but I know there are other ways to color in files in AI.

I want to use a room tag to calculate my occupants based on the area of the room divided by the occupant load factor. The room area would be pulled from the room, the occupant load factor (OLF) would be manually input by the user. Once the OLF was input a formula would take over and give the number of occupants. Is this possible? I know it can be done in a schedule but I would like to put it into a tag for a code study. Eventually this tag could be expanded to provide other information such as required exit width from the room.

Using Revit 2014 and the newest IFC Exporter V3.6 (also from Autodesk Exchange Apps), I've been able to export only Gross Building Areas, not the Rentable Areas. Is the IFC Exporter for Revit 2014 more limited than the one for 2013.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI already have a revit model of a building with the areas identified like "room A", "room B", etc. I exported it to FBX and opened with Unity but the information about the rooms was not there (I am assuming FBX format does not save that information)
I might be wrong but I beleive IFC format saves this information. The problem is that Unity does not import IFC files and the file seems way too complicated to make my own parser to read it. I was wondering if there is a lib or something that I could use to visualize the 3D model without losing the rooms identification.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy plans are printing fine, but elevations and any 3d view print with the majority of the drawing missing. I'm guessing it has to do with the raster images used on walls for textures, but besides that I'm stumped. I'm trying to print in realistic view, because of the material textures that need to show up.
I've turned on sun lighting, as well as tried various PDF printers, but no change. When I go to the print preview it appears to preview incorrectly. The file is pretty small as the project is just a modest house. Pretty much all the settings are 'right out of the box'.
When I shift back to just 'Hidden line' mode and look at it in print preview it seems to print the drawing fine, but then the titleblock and firm logo dissapear. The actual PDF when printed is fine.
I'm working on revit 2013, in WIndows 7 inside parllels on a macbook pro.
I need to report the area of two external areas. One area is the complete site area whilst the second is that portion of the site area being developed. By necessity they overlap, but Revit does not appear to allow this, or does it? Is there a workaround?

In the image below I have an aerial photo of an Island. I need to make it so as water areas are black and land areas are white (not greyscale) almost like a silhouette. My first plan was to draw round the island with a black paint brush and then use the "bucket fill" with a suitable threshold to fill all of the areas up to the black outline with black, however this doesn't work as the bucket fill either breaks through the black line or when I reduce the threshold, doesn't color the water areas solidly.
