I am looking for a way to boost the performance in Revit 2014 while loading or updating complex family’s. The problem at the moment seems to be that Revit 2014 only uses 1 cpu while loading family’s even if you have a high end multicore workstation at hand. So with hardware there is not much you can do.
A possible solution should be in virtualization, i.e. running Revit 2014 in a virtual machine with a single vCpu assigned on a vmware Esxi or Microsoft Hyper-v multi core host. I have tested this solution but ran into the problem that neither Esxi or Hyper-v distribute the load of the single Vcpu in the virtual machine over de multicore’s of the host. 1 Vcpu uses just one core of the host so no cpu performance advantage at all. The best practice of adding Vcpu’s to the virtual machine just lowers the performance of Revit in this case.

Ok some times when I go to run details it pops up that it can not load the component database AecDtlComponents (US).mdb file. I go to options and can not do anything there. So I have to close it all down and hope when I reload AA it works. 9 out of 10 times it does. But this is a pain to do when ever you need to add detail stuff. Oh also this happens on more then one computer in the office. running 2012 with sp and all updates on windows 7

View 4 Replies View RelatedClients are asking for point clouds within my work and renderings now. I've been given some of their PC data files for a test. It looks like the only format you can load is RCP & RCS which appears to be the AutoDesk ReCap native format.
Is the only way to import Point Clouds into MAX to buy another software package that converts the data (amoung many other things)?
My workstations have a long load time for 3DS max 2011 - not sure why is it so, but if you ask me I think that is not normal. Moreover its a 64bit machine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I just recently purchased Lightroom 5.3 and installed it on a brand new clean install of Windows 7. When I attempt to import RAW files into LR from a secondary hard drive, Lightroom just stalls out for five to ten minutes. Eventually, if I wait long enough, the Import dialogue screen loads and I get to wait another five to ten minutes to choose my secondary drive with my RAW files on it. When I can select that drive and click the directory with my files, I get to wait ANOTHER five to ten minutes for it to accept that choice and load my photos into the Import window. Once I get past all that and hit the Import button, it actually loads the files into LR just fine and I can work as normal. I have never had this issue with this specific drive when I had Lightroom 3 and 4, so I don't know why suddenly LR 5 would not like it.

How can I specify to load also animation 1 or animation 2 ?
I have a series of PNG images which have been authored from various sources, but mostly with Gimp. The images have transparent backgrounds and use partial transparency effects like drop shadow, etc. I want to display these on a bitmap layer of the TImage32 component from Graphics32.
I have dropped a TImage32 component onto my form, with the intention being to set the visibility to off, and use the TImage32 as a container for the PNG image I want to draw on the layer.
When I go to load the image at design-time, the dialog has two tabs - it allows me to load the RGB image, and the alpha channel, and I don't know how to produce these - I prouce the image by using the export to PNG function of Gimp. If I load the exported PNG into both the RGB channel and the alpha channel the resulting image doesn't have the transparent background. There obviously must be a procedure I need to follow to get Gimp to produce both the RGB and alpha channels.
So I have this issue where opening the compact material editor a second time causes 3ds max design to totally crash. I cant figure out why it is doing that. I have tried reinstalling the software, even tried re-dowloading it and nothing works, have all the service packs and so on. Funny thing is that it works when using the slate editor. I can recreate the bug every time. Just open 3ds max design 2014 x64. Press material editor (assuming its in comact mode), close the editor and then open it again. Immediatly the program will crash to desktop, telling me that the progam has stopped responding.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just loaded Revit 2014, and then loaded a project file created in Revit 2013. When I try to render a view in the cloud I get an error message that says "The file could not be translated.-1" I have tried this with several projects and get the same error for all.
However if i create a new project in 2014 the render works fine, it only seams to be a problem when I upgrade a project from revit 2012 or 2013.
The program works fine until I try to edit the boundary of the topography. As soon as I click "edit boundary", the screen goes black for about an hour, then comes back with about 25% loaded. This cycle repeats until the loading is complete, so it takes me a few hours just to enter edit mode. The file is only 17, 280 KB, and Ive been running 240,000 KB files without an issue whatsoever.

I havent used Revit or created any BIM content before and I was hoping to open another manufactures file (*.RFA) in Inventor to disect the file and how to create our own files. my laptop has been stolen and I had to buy a new PC...The new one is a windows 8, therfore, I had to install revit 2014....the problem is that I have been working on a graduate class project using revit 2012, and now revit 2014 will not open the files I built on revit 2012...I have only 10 days to rebuild what I have been working on for 3 months!!!...is there any way to open a revit 2012 on 2014 or at least convert it to work on 2014.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing model where I cannot create a filled region in one sheet, but on other sheets in the same model I can. the filled region appears but does not mask anything - it is transparent. Transparency is set correctly (to zero) and I have tried bringing it to the front.

in 3D - Section Box all measurement tools are grey indication of no use/doesn't applay/stay away/? Using 3D-SB you can have a glance insidea 3D modell and there be objects that only have a elevaton and no other properties except New Constuction (Specialty Equipment). So confirming space is a pain.

We are able to connect to our local server and sync and relinquish the revit model. We had setup another server in our branch office. View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to print sheets that contain shaded (or better) 3D views, these 3D views do not appear on my prints/Pdf's/DWFx's. I've tried different PDF-drivers and hardcopy printers that are in my office, but they all don't work.
Some things that maybe can narrow the cause down:
- Printing a single 3D view to a DWFx works
- Printing a single 3D view to PDF or hardcopy printer doesn't work
- Printing a Hidden Line view on sheets works on alle printers
- 2013; printing a sheet containing 3D views works. When upgrading the same project to 2014, the same sheet fails.
I get the following error when trying to use etransmit on two different projects:"the following files could not be checked for links"..We use Revit Server. We have many projects which etransmit just fine from Revit Server.
I looked this up and the only info I found said that Revit Server is locking a link or links or the main file. I (and our IT dept) checked Revit Server for locking and did not find any issues. I have tried locating the consultant linked files on the Revit Server too.
When I click on search, my computer opens the notepad application and the error message says "the filename, directory name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect." I cant go to the videos or the wiki directly from revit either. None of the resources on the right side of the screen are accessible. I do have the educator version of the software. I have tried to reinstall from the application, but have not uninstalled and reinstalled completely.
