when selecting a silohuete with the poligonal lassoo tool, the area suddenly closes without clicking, selecting an area which I do not desire and making impossible to select the silohuete I want.

When I define the area with anchor points, close it then select Make Selection, New Selection, it puts the marching ants around not only the area I selected but also the entire image (see below).

This suddenly started happening.Â
CS6 crashes on selecting any tool. It displays a spinning ball and can only be force quit. It developed this fault spontaneously. Where should I start searching? I repaired permissions, cleaned up the whole system, uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen using the patch tool, I make the selection, pick my area for it to patch from and it patches just fine. BUT, the area I selected to be patched is still staying selected with marching ants around it and I have to CTRL-D to deselect before I can patch another area.

Thought it de-selected on old machine and it's driving me crazy trying to retouch some jobs where the patch tool gets a real workout...Am running CS5 (12.1x64) on a new Windows 7 64 bit machine, using a Wacon Intous 4 w/latest drivers.
there's an invisible 10px border around each object/shape. it's so frustrating when i'm working on small icons or whatnot.i'll try and give an example the best i can... say i have two squares overlapping and are offset from each other by a 5px or so. if i want to select the back square, i'd normally... click on the part of the square i can see. in cs6, if i just click on the visible part of said square, it would select the front square. i have to click at least 10px out from the back square to select it.

I'm wondering if I have a defective program because the tool icon disappears when I switch tools and then reach for a new brush size. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Photoshop CC in Windows8 64x as trial and find a curious bug with the Move Tool:Usually I select multiple layers creating a selection with the Move Tool on them, but in this new CC version the tool is selecting hidden layers too. More details: the hidden layer are inside a folder. The folder is hidden, but the inside layers are not.

This type of selection has always worked perfectly in previously versions, and of course, I leave the option "Auto Select> Layer" enabled.
I'm using PhotoShop from CS3 and have had a persistent problem with the polygonal lasso tool. Sometimes when I use it, the tool will only give me a few seconds in between mouse clicks to continue selecting. If I don't keep selecting new points (ie, if I leave the cursor hanging on the drawing with the selection still open), the lasso tool will automatically close itself. when I'm trying to do detailed selection work because it doesn't give me time to find the right point to select to before closing the selection over an area that ends up being useless to me.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi switched from CS5 to CS6 Extended (Win 7 64bit) and I'm a little bit confused about the select/move tool (V). I have "automatic selection" activated and when I click on a layer, Photoshop often selects a nearby layer but not the one I'm clicking at - often the layer selected is more on top of the layer I was planning to select, but that was no problem in CS5 ... Is there anything I can change in the settings or is this behavior "normal"?

For example - a cursor placed at the marked position selected the white arrow-vector-shape.
everytime i use the selection tool it selects the entire canvas and not the image i want. why is doing this? how can i prevent this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Adobe Photoshop CS6 (part of Master Collection English-Arabic Enabled) installed on MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Mountain LionI went to Preferences -> Type -> chose Middle East , to enable arabic typing but whenever I choose the Text tool, photoshop freezes, and cpu use reaches 130% ( on Activity Monitor it showed that photoshop using 60% of cpu while "fontd" is up to 70%)I don't know why font daemon is consuming that much of cpu, probably facing problems with building fonts models, I left it for half an hour, but no use.

the corresponding windows version, did not freeze, instead just went alittle quirky heavy for half a minute then back to normal and i was able to use text tool and type in arabic normally
When I try to select points in my vector shape (this one is selected), and I have other vector shape behind that one, I start dragging with Direct Selection Tool in order to select those two points, I got selected three points, two from first vector shape, and one more form shape that was behind and in the area where I was dragging selection. Also, now both vector shape become selected. Why is this happening if only one vector shape was selected?

In Elements 11 it was announced that selecting difficult shapes like hair for cutting out people etc was a new feature.I actually now know how to do it now because I have a tutorial from Digital Photo Magazine, It didnt feature in the new guided edits or "How To" videos (Why not?)

If I have a number of shapes on top of each other, with, for example, a drop shadow on the top shape, whenever I try and select the shape below it (it is peeking out from beneath the top shape, so I click on this 'peeking' section of the shape to try and select it) I cannot - it just selects the top shape as the top shape's drop shadow is 'blocking' the shape below it. Make sense?

How do I go about about remedying this? I seem to recall being able to tell Illustrator to ignore 'effects' when making selections in CS4, but cannot work out how to do this in CS5. And is there a way to refine the 'sensitivity' or selection radius when clicking to make selections?
I've tried using the union tool in AutoCAD 2013 as well as the Boolean join function in Inventor Fusion 2013. In AutoCAD it doesn't let me select more than one object (says that the array is the only object and that individual unit blocks are duplicates). In Inventor Fusion I can't seem to get the hand of selecting the target & tool bodies.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Lightroom 4.1 a few months ago and since then have been battling with incredibly slow spot removal tool, slow changes between tools and modules, and a big time lag in using the slider adjustments. I use Lightroom for Portrait photography work and it is incredibly frustrating. I feel like my workflow is half the speed it used to be because of all the wait time. Once I select an area for the spot removal, for example, I can wait about 2-4 seconds for it to work. I find that this lag is shorted when I first open Lightroom and begin using it, but the lag time quickly increases as the hours literally drag by. Are other people having these issues after upgrading to Lightroom 4?

When I select an object the pointer has at least a 3 second delay before it starts moving around normally again. It is the same with selecting a command. This has started to get tedious. It has worked fine in the past so I don't think it is a RAM/graphics card problem.

I'm using Illustrator CS4 (14.0.0) on a MacPro with OSX 10.6.8.
OK, today, or actually just this afternoon I've noticed it has become much harder to select items with the mouse.
Points, nodes, etc...anything where you'd typically hover the mouse over the item and it highlights for you to select it.
For example, lets say you want to project a point from another sketch, or select the center node of a line, etc.
Never really had an issue until this afternoon where now it seems I have to be right on top of the item and I cannot budge one bit or it won't select it. It is now taking me numerous attempts to select things like points (zooming in does not work, points scale accordingly).
Is there a setting somewhere? I can't seem to find such under Tools>Application Options and the like.
Just recently upgraded from Photoshop CS5.5 64bit to Photoshop CS6 64 bit. Crashes when using burn tool, crop tool, or dodge tool?

I'm trying to crop an image but when I use the marquee tool, it keeps jumping to different spots when I drag the corner. I recently had troubles with my computer mouse in that it was double-clicking faster than humanly possible and wouldn't allow me to highlight anything. I believe I have fixed the mouse problems because everything that I was having difficulty with before has been fixed - just not in Photoshop. I was wondering if it could be a problem with the program. I hadn't encountered this problem before anything was wrong with my mouse. As for the settings I'm using, feather is set to 0px and the style is normal.

Following a tutorial at[URL]....
I come unstuck right after clicking on the Add Mask icon. In the tutorial the mask appears with a black/white checkered edge. As the commentary says, "You can tell when the mask is selected by the dotted border."
Well no matter what I do I do not get that dotted border, not when I click on the mask, double click, right click. (Nor do I get the checkered border when I click on the Layer icon. Both the layer and mask have plain white borders.)
I can't get to a Refine Mask option, only Refine Edge. When I try to improve the selection it looks as though I'm using an eraser tool at about 20% opacity, it just gets steadily more transparent. So how do I get the mask selected?
