Photoshop :: Text With "stroke" Effect And Transparency Surrounding
Dec 18, 2007
I am trying to do something simple which is not working out right. My photoshop skills are limited.
On a blank background, I create a text layer. Then I add the "stroke" effect which creates an outline around my text. Next I want to select everything else that is NOT my text and assign it to an alpha channel to make it transparent. The way I normally know to do this it to alt-click on the text layer. However, for some reason the border of this selection is around the actual text, and not the stroke effect extending past the text. Does this make any sense? Is there any way I can do what I'm trying to do: have everything BUT the text AND stroke effect be on an alpha channel? I also tried selecting by color range... I tried to select only the background which was white, having my text and stroke over text distinctly different colors. But even this way, there are some white pixels left over which are not selected, and the end result is not what I'm looking for.

I am building a specialized map for my local area with territory borders that need to have 8-pt strokes around them. Because each territory needs to live on it's own layer (to be printed seprately after the overview map is done) I found the easiest method to be selecting each territory with the polygonal lasso tool and then make a new Layer via copy and then gve the top layer the stroke effect I need. I worked fine when the strokes were at 100% opacity, but I later decided that each stroke should only be at about 60% opacity so that you can see the roads, rr track and other details beneath. In this case, the problem arises when territory boundaries overlap (as pictured below) because the stroke transparency of becomes additive where the 2 strokes overlap.
what setting I may use to make these strokes so that they can overlap and appear with absolute 60%transparency?

I used to have an effect that creates a light bulb, light glow around its surrounding area.
It also had the option to select light color , adjust the light angles and light rays radius. ( I think the transparency too)

I have been desperately searching for ways to precisely surround my text with a bubble stroke. I need this shape to strictly adhere to the text's form rather than loosely surround it. The resulting shape will need to enclose both the top and bottom text, which ultimately will form a logo. I just want to clarify, I am not looking to simply apply a stroke around the letters. Again, I am trying to outline the entirety of this image with a precise shrink wrapped bubble.
I realize this is possible with the pen tool; however, my hope is to discover a more accurate and simple technique.I have posted an image of my situation, which illustrates my initial attempt to pen around the text.

Not sure how to make/use text like the image shows i.e Teal text with a whitish shadow surrounding it.
Tried to use blur with text of a different color on multiple layers but it did not seem to work.

when I used to paint with Photoshop 7 and a mouse, I had it set up so that my brush strokes would fade gradually as I dragged the brush across the piece, like a real paintbrush running dry with each stroke.
Ever since I upgraded to Photoshop CS and a Wacom Graphire tablet, I can't figure out how to set my brush tool up like I used to have it (I prefer it for speed painting). Currently, my brush strokes vary in width based on the amount of pressure I apply. :B
how to adjust my settings so that the level of pressure on the tablet determines the stroke's transparency as well? Or at least point me to the right thread?

I am using Illustrator CS5 to build a logo that uses brush strokes. The strokes are translucent but I want them to be opaque. The setting for the stroke is 100% opaque. I can't find a way to change this. It seems like a glitch. I've used brush strokes many times before, but have never had this problem.

Can you apply tranparency to a stroke made by artistic media? his seems like it should be possible... I've been told to use the transparency tool for my type of transparency needs... but I can't find a way to get this to work. It would be handy... in PS, you just adjust the transparency slider for the object or layer. In Draw, how is this done specifically for an artistic media brush stroke?

The used to work fine, but now I am having an issue with all of the tools in the suite. In the attachment, you will see the results of the bloat tool on the left, and the pucker on the right. I'm getting the transparency effect in all of the tools in the suite.

I'm working on an assignment and I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a cross-layer transaprency effect. By that I mean two seperate layers that gradually fade until they meet somewehere halfway inbetween. Kinda like a gradient, only with opacity.

I am using Photoshop cs5 win version.
I often use Layer style - Stroke Effect, to get strokes, but If I apply the effect to a layer, the stroke is always feathered, antialiased. Do you know how to remove those antialiased, semi-transparent pixels?
I need all pixels to be 100% opacity, because it's much easier to edit, easier to select. I always use Threshold adjustment layer with white solid layer to get crisp, aliased stroke pixels, but It's a little bit time consuming, so If you know the faster, much efficient way

I have the following rounded rectangle
Need to make border glossy like below image
In order to do that, I've expanded this shape and created a ellipse with no stroke above button, with transparency/screen. This is what I got:
Now I need to get rid of the rest of ellipse, so the button will be transparent on upper boundaries. Inner part of button should be white, but whatever I put between button and ellipse should receive glossy effect. How to do that?

How can I draw a continuous stroked line with a fill, so that it overlaps and covers the previously drawn part of the line? I'm trying to draw some text so that it has an effect like in fig. 2 of the attached picture, not fig. 1. Is it possible to make somehow? For a simple image like this I could of course manually remove the few lines, but for a more complex text it's not possible, and I can't seem to find a solution myself.

I have been using the Red Ochre "Selection2Clear" plugin to remove this effect but it only seems to sometimes work.
How do most of you get rid of this effect? I can only see this in my game and I am trying to figure out a way to guarantee that none of my PNG artwork has this.

I am trying to create an image of "Frosted Glass" I want to be able to save this and later import it to put on top of other backgrounds and layers so that you would see the back layer as looking through frosted glass.
I am new to gimp but have been looking around at different walkthroughs. I must be missing somthing though because I am not getting what I would expect.
How I am trying to do this is I created 3 layers a light blue, white and alpha channel(transparency layer).
I adjusted the opacity down of the white and blue layers and then merged all 3 and again tried to adjust the opacity to acheive the effect. However I am a million miles off the mark.

I have a logo that was designed for a white background. The colors and shape work well with white. I want to use it against a darker background and would like to surround it with a white border so that it will be readable against the darker background. I don't want to put a border around the rectagular box in which the logo is currently sitting. That box is already white. I want to lift it from the white box, surround it in white and then paste onto the darker background.

I am looking for a way to automate the process of cropping an image to a rectangle that precisly fits the outermost non-white pixels of an image. Ideally I would be able to specify the white tolerance. Is there a plugin that does this? Or a series of steps that can be rolled into an action?

Coreldraw has a user-selectable option to export text "As text" (with or without font embedding) or "As curves". But if the text has a transparency applied to it, then Coreldraw always exports it as curves regardless.
This is a bug. The SVG spec clearly states that text is painted like any other path and so can have SVG opacity applied to it.
Problem applies to X6 and X5.

How do you make the stroke outline (The double white) on the red text?
I know how to make a single stroke outline, but not sure about the double. I kinda think the stroke outline might be off a selection that is put on a separate layer so it can be moved.

Whenever I add a stroke to text it never stays straight edged like the text, it becomes more rounded. Question is, is there a way to stroke the text with the edges staying straight instead of rounded without having to just draw a box around it or something?
Here's a picture of what I'm going for, I'm fine with making a box around the text (there are other characters, rounded characters like an "O"), but it would be a big time saver if there was a way to do it quicker.
Stroke in Photoshop is on the left, desired effect is on the right. The letter "i" might be a bad example, however the effect I'm looking for is a stroke keeping the shape of the text rather than rounding itself.

I've been getting pink or purgle lines bordering certain objects in my photographs. You can see them on the RAW images. When I merge them using HDR you can see how prominent the lines become. I'm not sure if the problem occurs in my camera (Canon T2i) or lens when I take the shot.I've tried using Color Range and the Magic Wand Tool but it is a tedious process.

I want to make some text with two outline colours.
(I'm not too concerned at this stage with the squeezing effect on the text)
Adding a stroke layer style (then adding a second one) sort of works, but the corners are rounded - I want them (as in the Fforde book example) to follow the crisp corners of the font itself.
