View 6 RepliesI want to create a transparent text on a solid color background, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the background layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): URL... Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the background color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7.

I'm creating text that will be printed on a deep gray to black tshirt.
I created text, added an offset path to it with a gradient, and a deep gray color fill on top, achieving the gradient stroke. However, I'm not exactly sure what color the shirt itself will be, other than deep gray to black. And I didn't want the deep gray/black fill in my text to appear and look awkward on the shirt. Unless that is something I shouldn't be considered about.
To be safe, how would you create transparent text with a gradient stroke? I'm using Illustrator CS5.
I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
I am in the process of designing a clear label for my aftershave and would like to have the text on a solid color panel be transparent so that the liquid is visible. I would also like to have an outline (Line) tracing the font. I've been doing some internet searches for "punched out" and "cutout" text and the like but this process is using two solid color layers.
As it stands now, I have a transparent background, the panel as one layer, and the text as another layer on top of the panel.
I came across a process for Illustrator but was hoping that it could be done in Photoshop as well since I have everything already setup in PS. I did try the method described for Illustrator but I couldn't get it to work in PS...not throwing out the high percentage of operator error on this one.
I need step by step gradient text instructions for Photoshop WITH TWO CUSTOM COLORS GOING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.
How do I (instead of using the preset color choices) make a custom gradient? I am trying to create text with a top to bottom gradient of green (#228B22) down to aqua (#40E0D0).
I'm trying to make some text have a gradient color. I write the text, simplify it and then use the gradient tool normally, however, it's applying the gradient to the entire layer instead of just the text. how to add the gradient and followed the insturctions but it's still not working.

Then you choose blending options and apply a stroke to the selection. However when I try to apply the stroke I have problems. Instead of just applying the stroke to the outside edge of the navbar it actually overlays the entire navbar and changes the colour of it. I have used the stroke before and never had this problem so Im not sure what I could be doing wrong. Im following the tut as it is written too.

All black and white text, with a kind of 3D pop out and a shadow as well. Maybe there is an easy way or a guide.
I have a problem with changing solid face colour where the Solid has a material assigned to it.
I have drawn a meter and need to add text to the face. Trying to imprint the text is a mission and I don’t seem able to make the text stand out. If I explode the text, Create a solid, Union the text, position the text on the meter face and union the text to the meter face the text takes on the colour of the material. I then try to change the colour of the text face and of course it will not change. The only way I can seem to change the face colour is to convert the solid to a surface which then defeats the object.
As an interim solution to overcome my problem I have created the text and positioned it where I need it and then created a block to keep it all in place. It looks ok and provided the block is not exploded it works ok but i am sure there must be a more professional way of doing it.
I'm trying to find a way to create a rectangle layer with rounded corners. Now, I know that's easy to do, right? Just take the Rectangular Marquee tool and put a feather on it, then do a fill with the paintbucket. Wrong! The feather somehow retardedly doesn't allow the "PAINT" to stay inside the selected area, and fills a slight gradient outside the selection, like so:
The quickest way I know how to do it is....well, really NOT that quick. Here's my steps:
1) Make a circle with the Elliptical Marquee tool and save the selection.
2) Add 4 of these to a selection, making sure they're lined up properly.
3) Now fill in the inside with the Rectangular Marquee tool.
4) NOW PAINT!
I apply the exact same stroke to the image on the left as on the blue shape on the right. Instead of getting what I want (and what I used to get), I get this kind of blurred stroke.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have CS5. The bugs and broken features in AICS6, make it unusable in my workflow.
I am specifically concerned about the inability to drag global color swatches from the color panel to Gradient stops in the Gradient Panel. I use this method to update a gradient color because I find it MUCH faster than option-dragging to duplicate a stop color, then deleting the unused stop. Since I do this constantly, I find using CS6 very tedious.
I use the elliptical tool to well...make an elliptical figure, I have issues when I stroke it.
It never gives me a solid stroke, it always has a feathery effect.
Is there anyway I can change this to a solid stroke?
I've been using Photoshop intensely this year for school assignments, and I'm learning to get around very well. The issue I'm currently having is that it want to make a layer mask that fades from the mask to the image behind, from color to transparent to create a smooth transition.
I've attached a sample image of what I'm trying to do. Just note, I used a very round-about method to get this image, but I want to achieve the same effect with a vector mask.
I create a new layer and fill it with black. Then I make a new layer and make a marquee selection. Within the marquee selection, I fill the new layer with a color to transparent gradient fill. I then take the new gradient layer and warp it using the "FLAG" preset.
I adjust the bend to 20% and commit the warp/transformation. I get the curve I want, but right in the middle of the curve, running straight up the layer, is a solid line of pixels. It's almost as if, that one little line missed out on both the gradient itself as well as the warp effect.
I want to take a photograph and have it go from transparent to solid opacity. I believe the gradient tool can do that (maybe) but I don't want any color, just have the transparent blend to solid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just dicovered the gradient stroke feature in illustrator CS6, the problem now is I can't get out of it. I am simply trying to apply a gradient within a shape, and it keeps only applying it to the stroke. If I try to add a gradient to a path that doesn't have a stroke, it will automaticallly add a stroke.

As soon as I select the drawn brush stroke and I try playing around with the gradient, the whole stroke goes black…This is driving me nuts. And the weird thing the gradient can be applied only to the basic brush type…not the one that I need unfortunately. I’m not sure why that is…I can only add colour to the brush stroke but no gradient sadly. Is there something I’m doing wrong or a setting which prevents this from happening?

First i can't get it to show up unless I find a number it likes (start out with 1 pt, don't see a stoke so increase size 1 pt at a time up to 11 to see it) now the corners have gotten strange, They seem to be missing small patches. You can see in the image I am not doing anything fancy, it's type and then just to make sure it wasn't a font problem I tried just a rectangle. It seems to be worst with corner set to round joint.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to apply an along stroke gradient to a stroke made with an artistic watercolor brush that comes with the program. Whenever I try to do this the gradient comes out greyscale. In the gradient window it will show as the colors I've chosen (ex. white -> orange), but when I draw the stroke it comes out greyscale regardless. If I draw the stroke with a different brush, like a regular round brush, it works perfectly fine. It seems to be doing this with all "artistic" brushes.
Is there a link there between artistic brushes and greyscale? Am I just doing something very wrong?
I'm running the trail version, does it have something to do with that?
Why is it that when I apply a gradient to a stroke I cannot use the gradient tool to change the direction or position of the gradient? I can make a fill and offset the path and then move that gradient (which is a very similar effect), but gradient tool does not work on a stroke. I am just baffled by the idea that I can put a gradient on a stroke but then only change it by using the gradient palette to change the angle and /or height /width...and that honestly dosen't work well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a circle where I can align a stroke to the outside of a path - however I need to be able to break the circle up into sections - once I do that - I cant align to outside anymore.
Aside from breaking the green section apart and aligning it manually by eye, is there no other way to do this? Perhaps by aligning all segments of the circle to another circle (one that hasnt been broken apart?)
i would like to set a gradient in a form(exactly a text) from the stroke color to the fill color.
