Aug 13, 2012An opened image is always locked. And if you want to do something you need to get rid of the lock. And yes, there are workarounds to do that. Can you add a preference option to turn off the backround lock default.
Rather than having to add a mask, why not also have a any new layer to automatically have a mask. Its a small step, but its something we do alot. All layers should have blank masks associated to them.

Oct 26, 2013I'm looking up what to do on digital tutors. It shows how to add blueprints to the viewport background and have it locked in via bitmap so that you don't need to use planes. I was doing fine following the instructons until it showed a button to lock the zoom/pan into place so that the image won't remain a constant size even if you zoom in and out. I can't find it on my '14 version, and where it is placed so that I can finish setting up my blueprints.

2. I see the small layers 'background' icon flashing as I do this into the black and white check pattern
3. It seems that the layer background is partially locked- (when I scroll my mouse over the 'lock' icon this is written)
Yet there is no icon above in 'lock' that is highlighted. So I cannot unlock it.I am able to adjust in all other methods which are not auto corrections. Perhaps I changed some settings accidentally?
AutoCad :: How To Lock The Layer
Jun 10, 2012I am in 2D mode in autocad, drawing a plan. I have locked one layer and also increased the translucency, jet my snaps still respond to the objects in this layer, where all I want to do is keep it as an underlay while I draw the rest of the things. The objects within this locked layer are also selectable, they come up with doted lines once selected, but I can't edit or move them, because the layer is is locked.
Is there a way to lock the layer, so that it is completely ignored by snaps and selection, jet kept visible with little transparency?
I am using AutoCad 2013, and there are only blocks within this layer.

May 15, 2013I went to lock a Layer (the whole layer) and could not - I had to Lock the item IN the Layer (one item: and the Layer still did show as Locked).I have a screen shot; but, it's been a bit & I don't see how-to attach it.Plus, shouldn't I have been able to Lock the Layer & the item in it? Really annoying to keep getting those "Are you sure you want to turn off the current layer" messages and it would prevent me from either drawing thing on a layer I don't intend to, or drawing on a layer which is off (which confuses me every time).

It seems that there's more padding around the lock/visibility icon, and you have to be really precise to click it... increasing the row size doesn't really make any difference, as the "padding" is still there. Wheres in the earlier versions clicking anywhere within the toggle box would enable/disable it.
AutoCAD 2010 :: Conditional Layer Lock And Readonly?
Apr 8, 2012We are using AutoCad 2012. Our company have more than 32 disciplines. For any projects the drawings are prepared with many disciplines. Civil does the civil drawing portions, water does the water pipeline portion, electrical does the electrical cable layout portions etc. etc. Each departments have their own set of layers in the drawing.
Now the problem is civil can accidentally modify the entities of electrical departments / utility departments. Though we lock the other disciplines layers programmetrically, but user can unlock the other disciplines layers easily if he wish to. Can we make those other disciplines layers read only? So that users can draw / modify in his own discipline layers but can not do that in other disciplines layer. But he can refer those layers / copy entities from those layers if he wish to? Some sort of xref type of thing is required, but we can not use xrefs as we work in a single drawing and our custom drawing management system is integrated with this type of file system accross the offices.

Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1.
Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
My question:
How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?

Below is the layers panel with the BG layer OFF and the picture below it shows how my image looks when the BG is OFF.
Now here is the layers panel with the BG layer ON and here's my image when the BG layer is ON
I am a bit confused as to why the white BG is covering the 1st layer above it ... isn't the BG layer suppose to Always be Behind the 1st layer? Both BG layers are locked and in the same Z order ....
So, I'm just wondering why this is happening.

Jun 7, 2011A friend had an image created, of a star, and cannot get hold of the person who created it. She's asked me but i have a problem, how to remove the background so you just have the star so that you can layer it on another background? I tried this a few weeks ago, changed it onto a transparent layer. Weird thing is when you put it onto another background, the transparent layer suddenly changes to a white background!

I get eps files that i have to post to a website. I open the files in Photoshop, and they open on 1 layer, a Background later, that has a white background. However when I drop them into a PPT or Word doc, they are indeed transparent.
When I open the EPS's in Illustrator, they are transparent. When I re-save the EPS in Illustrator as an Illustrator EPS, and then open that file in Photoshop, it opens on "Layer 1" and is transparent.
Why are these EPS's opening on a background later to begin with?

That's how I am able to keep the original jpeg file. When editing is completed on Layer 1, I got to save the edited image. Before saving it, what should I do with the Background layer? Should I delete it or merge/flatten with Layer 1?
