How to turn of the "lock symbol" from showing when you run your crosshairs (outside of a command) over a locked layer. Its annoying and i would like to turn it off.
Also, when offsetting a line, is there a way to turn off the imaginary offset line that indicates the offset side, again its annoying and i'd like to turn it off.
1. I try to use any auto correction such as tone, and nothing appears to change
2. I see the small layers 'background' icon flashing as I do this into the black and white check pattern
3. It seems that the layer background is partially locked- (when I scroll my mouse over the 'lock' icon this is written)
Yet there is no icon above in 'lock' that is highlighted. So I cannot unlock it.I am able to adjust in all other methods which are not auto corrections. Perhaps I changed some settings accidentally?
I have a question regarding AutoCAD 2012 and when it comes to locking layers.
When working on the basement layer I would like to see that layer locked in turn not affecting my other layers, ie: my house/garage/second-floor.

I type in the command ( I'm an old school typer, hate the buttons ) BLOCK....then the next thing that happens is (after hitting enter of course), my crosshairs instantly turn into the Windows arrow.
I wasn't playing with any switches. I was just trying to make a little block with a number in it.

How do I turn off the defpoints layer so it does not appear when i use the dimension tool while editing a block. I simply want to turn it off so the layer doesn't appear in the layer manager.

This results in a lot of errors when he tries to check in any files where this shows up. I can open the same assembly on my machine and the lock does not show up, and I can check the files in with no trouble.

As an example, for basic copy command, I would normally select my object to copy, type C, hit the space bar, and select my object again to copy to new location. With this override, I select my object, type C, hit the space bar, and in the command line, this appears:

View 1 Replies View RelatedAn opened image is always locked. And if you want to do something you need to get rid of the lock. And yes, there are workarounds to do that. Can you add a preference option to turn off the backround lock default.
Rather than having to add a mask, why not also have a any new layer to automatically have a mask. Its a small step, but its something we do alot. All layers should have blank masks associated to them.
ACA2011My dimensions seem to be fickle with regard to snaping. I've got my OSNAPs on, and I can't snap to a structural beam above, nor can I snap to a window sill. I can dim to the mid point of the window sill by using .x & .y filters, and can only snap to the axis line on a beam. Is there a toggle somewhere?

I have locked one layer and also increased the translucency, jet my snaps still respond to the objects in this layer, where all I want to do is keep it as an underlay while I draw the rest of the things. The objects within this locked layer are also selectable, they come up with doted lines once selected, but I can't edit or move them, because the layer is is locked.
Is there a way to lock the layer, so that it is completely ignored by snaps and selection, jet kept visible with little transparency?
I am using AutoCad 2013, and there are only blocks within this layer.

Really annoying to keep getting those "Are you sure you want to turn off the current layer" messages and it would prevent me from either drawing thing on a layer I don't intend to, or drawing on a layer which is off (which confuses me every time).
I have a drawing where I need to open the layer manager to turn on a layer in a view port but cannot get to that particular column. As you look across the top of the layer manager I can see all the headings of each column beginning with "Name", "Status", "On" and so forth. The last column heading I see is "Description" but I need to go even further to the right to get to the column I need to be at but can't get there. There is no scroll button on the bottom of the layer manager which would allow me to do that.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI isolated layers to clear out a drawing, since then I have had nothing but hassle with locked layers, No matter how many times I unlock them, they lock up again, if I create a new layer it comes in locked, if I change a line to a differant layer it locks up, I have tried creating a few simple layers, then copying and pasting the layout into a new drg file, still the problem exists, it is costing me a lot of time having to keep doing this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe are using AutoCad 2012. Our company have more than 32 disciplines. For any projects the drawings are prepared with many disciplines. Civil does the civil drawing portions, water does the water pipeline portion, electrical does the electrical cable layout portions etc. etc. Each departments have their own set of layers in the drawing.
Now the problem is civil can accidentally modify the entities of electrical departments / utility departments. Though we lock the other disciplines layers programmetrically, but user can unlock the other disciplines layers easily if he wish to. Can we make those other disciplines layers read only? So that users can draw / modify in his own discipline layers but can not do that in other disciplines layer. But he can refer those layers / copy entities from those layers if he wish to? Some sort of xref type of thing is required, but we can not use xrefs as we work in a single drawing and our custom drawing management system is integrated with this type of file system accross the offices.
I am trying to assign objects (only in UNLOCKED layers) with a new layer.So basically, the user will select all the objects in the drawing.
After selecting (ex. press enter after window selecting), only objects in UNLOCKED layers will have a new layer.

My ACad2006 Layer Combo Control bar appears to be locked. It will only show the current layer and will not show the layer of an object that is selected with the pickbox. I must have accidentally made a change somehow, but don't know how to undo this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am frustrated at the design of sheetsets. There is no way to "lock" sheets to a particular sheet set.
When I have a sheet open with a sheet set verything is great but, if I close that sheet and open another w/o closing the sheet set, the new dwg will associate all of its fields with the other sheet set. Is there a way to lock the sheets with a sheet set? OR is there a way to automatically close a sheetset that is associated with a a file or files when they are closed?
If its possible to have a viewport stay locked on a geometry in model space?
For example- we layout our page geometries in model space and outline them in a VP in paperspace. however say we move the entire drawing in model space- we have to go back and redo every viewport on every page. is there a way to prevent this or stop this from happening?
I'm working in 2011. Just labeling some contours in a new drawing, using the 'Multiple' setting. I found I could only draw one tangent of Contour Label Line. If I continued, I could click but no labels were created and on finishing the command I could see that those clicks had been ignored. What gives?
I found that the labels were on the current layer, instead of the layer they're meant to use.I also realised that my current layer was locked (from the previous task).
if the current layer is locked, the contour labels ignore the layer setting that they are meant to use, and come in on the current layer instead. And you can only draw one tangent's worth of contour labels at a time before finishing the command and restarting.
Solution: make a different layer current or unlock your layer.
are contour labels generally created on the current layer and then moved to their proper layer?Is that why it hit a snag: it wasn't permitted to move the object to a different layer because the one it was on was locked?
By this I mean, if I set a new UCS with a new "north", can I lock it to this coordinate so it can't be changed?
Normally I would not do this, however, we're working with a company that has asked us to lay out an equipment grid on a couple sites they are setting up, as such: With 0,0 set to a predetermined point, and 100 ft increment grid laid out based off this point, using a laid out line on the site as an east-west, then creating a grid from this line and rotating it to create a "plant north."
Simple enough, except we sent them the dwg of the first one, and when they came back to us with their equipment setup, everything was inexplicably 4 degrees off and they blamed it on us. Oi...
So, yeah, to summarize, we'd like to lock our grid UCS.
when my pointer is in the drawing window, it disappears. when i move away to the ribbon or quick access tollbar, it reappears.

Some of our drawings have the ability for the viewport view to be dragged despite the viewport being locked. Is there an alternate way to lock, or unlock a view besides the option located on the drawing tray?
