I went to lock a Layer (the whole layer) and could not - I had to Lock the item IN the Layer (one item: and the Layer still did show as Locked).I have a screen shot; but, it's been a bit & I don't see how-to attach it.Plus, shouldn't I have been able to Lock the Layer & the item in it? Is this a Bug?

View 3 Replies View RelatedLightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am in 2D mode in autocad, drawing a plan. I have locked one layer and also increased the translucency, jet my snaps still respond to the objects in this layer, where all I want to do is keep it as an underlay while I draw the rest of the things. The objects within this locked layer are also selectable, they come up with doted lines once selected, but I can't edit or move them, because the layer is is locked.
Is there a way to lock the layer, so that it is completely ignored by snaps and selection, jet kept visible with little transparency?
I am using AutoCad 2013, and there are only blocks within this layer.
Wondering about the lock on background layer, the manual says the background layer will be partially locked unless it is transparent.

Really annoying to keep getting those "Are you sure you want to turn off the current layer" messages and it would prevent me from either drawing thing on a layer I don't intend to, or drawing on a layer which is off (which confuses me every time).
How to toggle the layer lock/visibility in CS6 than in the earlier versions.
It seems that there's more padding around the lock/visibility icon, and you have to be really precise to click it... increasing the row size doesn't really make any difference, as the "padding" is still there. Wheres in the earlier versions clicking anywhere within the toggle box would enable/disable it.
We are using AutoCad 2012. Our company have more than 32 disciplines. For any projects the drawings are prepared with many disciplines. Civil does the civil drawing portions, water does the water pipeline portion, electrical does the electrical cable layout portions etc. etc. Each departments have their own set of layers in the drawing.
Now the problem is civil can accidentally modify the entities of electrical departments / utility departments. Though we lock the other disciplines layers programmetrically, but user can unlock the other disciplines layers easily if he wish to. Can we make those other disciplines layers read only? So that users can draw / modify in his own discipline layers but can not do that in other disciplines layer. But he can refer those layers / copy entities from those layers if he wish to? Some sort of xref type of thing is required, but we can not use xrefs as we work in a single drawing and our custom drawing management system is integrated with this type of file system accross the offices.
1. I try to use any auto correction such as tone, and nothing appears to change
2. I see the small layers 'background' icon flashing as I do this into the black and white check pattern
3. It seems that the layer background is partially locked- (when I scroll my mouse over the 'lock' icon this is written)
Yet there is no icon above in 'lock' that is highlighted. So I cannot unlock it.I am able to adjust in all other methods which are not auto corrections. Perhaps I changed some settings accidentally?
currently on trial with X5 (on jobsite)...registered user of X3...is there a way to "lock" pen weight and color with each layer? doing tech Illustration, would be useful to maintain line weights used between layers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I launch Xara, I want the page and layer gallery to be at "layer level" mode, however it is only showing it at "page level" mode. Is there a way to make it default to layer level? It can get pretty redundant to have to click on that page to open it every time.

Also, when offsetting a line, is there a way to turn off the imaginary offset line that indicates the offset side, again its annoying and i'd like to turn it off.
I know how to do it in Photoshop, but I can't figure it out in Xara...I have Xara Designer Pro 7 BTW...

My normal usage of Xara is for banners and posters etc. not art or technical drawing. Anyway, I wanted to create a specific shape in Xara - it's not that I can't create it otherwise (it's very simple to create in CAD and export as PDF - import into Xara), it's that I can't create it in Xara - No matter what I try I cannot create this exact shape. I say exact specifically because I can close to fudge it, that's not the point. How would I go about creating this shape exactly.

I am trying to export some artwork as a PDF so I can get it printed, but every time I try to export it I get the attached message. I have tried various times always after a reboot but with no luck.
The file is only just under 7mb in size so I can't figure out why it is doing it.
It is important that I export with layers as I have a cutter guide included so the printer can see where he needs to position the print on the sheet and it is printed on both sides.
I am using XDP6
I have a clear black and white bitmap which I am trying to vectorise using the bitmap tracer tool under utilities, i have tried tweaking the settings to so many different combinations but it still traces it with jagged edges and it's not very 'clean' as opposed to the original image. it's a black and white drawing with definitive shapes.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI created this simple graphic with a mix of the straight line tool and the shape tool. Any color I drag on to any panel of this hat only changes the background color. I've made sure that all these lines have snapped to the appropriate edges and have tried many combinations of joining shapes and converting to shapes, etc...
I have noticed the vectors don't seem to work the same so I'm not sure this is even possible.
The website is run on WordPress, and so I did not design the site in Xara. However, I designed the graphics. I had them all in one Xara file. Today, I wanted to add more mouseovers. You can see the ones I have by hovering over the right-hand side of the page. There were 5 or so pages in the file with a variety of ideas and small graphics that I exported to png files and uploaded to the site.
When I opened the file, it had only 1 blank page. I was horrified. I noticed that the latest and greatest Xara is a bit quirky, compared to the previous 2 versions.
Seems to no longer be able to choose a color outside the program window.. Previous versions were able to choose any color on my monitors. Might add, I miss being able to click an object and open the color editor directly..
I closed the program & reopened... It then allowed selecting a color outside the program window. Weird. And now I see that rather than "color picker on the context menu, it's "fill color". Wow, I'm losing it today.
For some reason, I'm not able to get my Mask Mode button "turned on" -- the Help section pointed to "Window > Mask mode on" -- but even though a shape / object / photo is selected, mask features always remain unavailable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased Designer Pro 9 about a month ago. I have tried about 30 times, no kidding, to change the US Letter template from Arial 10 to Verdana 12. It happened again this morning and I've decided to finally come to the forum and find out what's going on.
Here's what happens: I open US Letter and make the changes, then choose Save Template. When I reopen it, it's still Arial 10. Makes no difference if I choose "Use as default template" or not. I even tried saving it as a template with a different name, Verdana 12, but it still opens as Arial 10.
As a test, I opened Designer 6, chose New, US Letter, and changed the font to Brussels 12. I then selected Save Template, saved it as Brussels 12, and closed out. Then I chose File/New/Brussels 12. It opened as a letter template with Brussels 12 point. That's the procedure I used years ago to change US Letter to Verdana 12 in Designer 6, and so the Save Template function still works in that version.
Because nothing I've tried seems to work, I am wondering whether any template I create will be saved in 9.
For some reason I am unable to create text to follow a curved path. For example, I created a simple curved line using the shape editor tool. After selecting the completed line I select the main text tool (the other text tool, fit text to curve, is grayed out and not selectable). However, wherever I insert the cursor along the curved line I still end up with a straight line of text. After much experimentation I still cannot figure it out. I know I am leaving out a simple step.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just started trying to make a GIF animation with Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013. The program allows you set a frame as a "layer". The Xara help manual says that the layer frame will go over the previous frame in the animation. However, I haven't been able to get this to work. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. But what? (or elaborate) on the use of layer frames in a Xara GIF animation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn start-up of Designer7 I now get the error message "Unable to store information on your local hard disk. The disk may be full, or read-only. Ok" as pretty well the last thing in the start-up process. On pressing Ok, the dialog clears and the program will run normally. Opening and saving files works just fine.
My discs (where the program is stored, where my user profile is stored, where the drawings are saved and when the temp files and Windows swap file arel orated ) have ample space and are not RO. I also ran a disc check and they're not corrupted or damaged.
No malware seems to be present (checked with a couple of different programs) but the only thing that's different is that we had a power cut while Xara was running. Since then, it keeps giving me this message.
I've just updated to the latest version and accepted the default settings and it still gives me the message.
Windows Vista 32 with Admin privileges.
Is it possible to put a speech bubble on a layer for use as a popup? In this case it would be a layer on a layer. I can draw a graph and I can import a jpg, but can't get the speech bubble on a layer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm used from XDP6 to having the P&L Gallery stay the size I set it to - whereas in XDP7, when I press 'Pages' to reduce the listing into page names only - the panel suddenly shrinks to the left, given that the names only occupy a small space. This bugs me, esp at it shunt the page I'm working on to the left by the same amount as well.

I'm new at Xara Xtreme and I just bought a vector image from iStock. It says that the image can easily be edited. Here is the image [URL]....
I want to split things up and move each individual globe and put arrange them to my specifications. I can't figure out how to move or edit the individual objects, it's all one layer. Can this be done? For example can the globe with the numbers around it be moved to the left of the screen and the other four globes be removed? I know this can be done with technical skills, but can this be done by a beginer?

I've just upgraded to Xara P&G Version 6 from Xara Xtreme 4. ( I know, I know what took me so long right? ) Well, Xtreme was doing everything that I required and as such never felt like upgrading but have finally done so. Still getting the hang of the new functions and facilities.
One thing that is bothering me is the new Layers task. In the older version, any imports or changes I made were always done on the active layer. In the new version something strange seems to be happening. Every time I import a new object, Xara automatically adds a new dedicated layer for the object. This means that I am ending up with tons of layers
Am I doing something wrong? Or can I change any setting so that Xara does not automatically add a new layer. I much prefer the facility of the old version where it was up to the user to add new layers as required.
