Photoshop :: Text In PS Appears Fuzzy - Why Not Smooth Vector?
Jul 23, 2007
When I put text into photoshop CS3, and then zoom into it, the edges are all fuzzy and jaggy.
I was of the opinion that all text were vectors in PS and so the edges should be smooth as. Unfortunately, the text prints out all jaggedy on my laser printer also just like it looks on the screen. I've also played with the anti-alias options somewhat. Obviously when I do this in Illustrator, it is spot on vector, but not in PS.
What am I doing wrong here? When I convert the text into a shape, sure... the nice vector lines appear around text. But shouldn't the text be vector straight up when I create a text layer in PS, and then I should be able to rasterize it when adding filter effects etc?
Is there any way for me to work with my text in Photoshop in sharp vector-resolution so that it's sharp at all resolutions? Let me describe a test I've done:
I open up a A4 300 ppi resolution document in Photoshop and simply type the word "Photoshop" at 72pt size Myriad Pro font. The anti-aliasing is set to 'Crisp'. Firstly, it doesn't look the best as it is on the screen with the edges 'jaggy'. Secondly, I hit print and it tells me I'm printing to a non-postscript printer (i.e my laser which I know IS postscript!!). When it prints out, it looks crap just like it did on my screen (edges jaggy).
I then open up a simple A4 document in Illustrator, type the word "Photoshop" at the same size text as outlined above. Looks great on screen OBVIOUSLY because it's vector-based and is sharp at all resolutions. I hit print, it it spits out the document perfectly printed as it is on screen.
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with Photoshop, but my text looks garbage only when using Photoshop. Not with any other program out there (ie. MS Word, Publisher, Illustrator, Serif Drawplus, Serif Pageplus, Serif Photoplus....)

I was designing a business card as usual and copying some vector images from Illustrator, but when I tried to enter some text it came up blank...the color shows a question mark (?) even after I attempt to change the color.
I've seen the question mark before but all I needed to do in the past was select that little button and change it.

I have tried for the life of me to figure this one out...why is my text ALWAYS fuzzy when I print it out, no matter what I do? I am not manipulating it at all, just typing it on my page, then printing. I have tried checking and unchecking "scale to fit media", I have tried printing straight from the psd file, I have tried printing from a saved jpg image. It doesn't look fuzzy/blurry at ALL on my computer screen.

I have 2 to 6 tables per drawing, each at a maximum of 48 cells. I linked them through the special paste and expended them so each cell is 6" Wide and 1" Tall (in model space) and seen through a viewport at 2" = 1'-0" (so 1" wide by .167" tall). The text is noticeably fuzzy and I'm trying to clear it up without going back to the Tables (the reformatting of the Tables already spent an extra 2 hours on one of the 11 assignments).

I can't get text in Photoshop CS to look right. It usually looks good on screen unless I zoom in. Since I think these are vectors I would think it would always look good no matter what the zoom level. I am trying to print my company name in Times NR 24 point. My printer driver is postscript. Part of my company name is LANTEC so I did a quick test and tried to print that one word in TNR 24 point and it looks terrible. Zooming in on the text also looks terrible (by the way I have it set to sharp and I have also tried smooth). This is driving me crazy. I have also looked at the print driver which is set to print graphics in 600 X 600 dpi.
I did a quick search and only found one document that is close to this problem. It said something about 200 dpi and 72 dpi. What settings are these reffering too?

I just downloaded the program from a CD and when I open it the text in the program appears pixelated (not sure if this is a real word). This also happens when I open a picture in the program making it very difficult to edit.Â

A label that I've created in Illustrator isn't mapping onto a can in 3D revolve
Â
1. Traced the side of a can using the pen tool, and turned it into a 3D object using revolve (NOTE: I haven't applied any stroke to it, just a white fill - otherwise, Map Art wouldn't even open, it would just say " Artwork produced no surfaces for artwork mapping.")
Â
2. Dragged the label into symbols
Â
3. Clicked on the side of the can, opened 3D revolve, and clicked preview
Â
4. Clicked Map Art, selected the appropriate surface
Â
5. Selected the label from the symbols, scaled it, and clicked preview
 Â
When nothing happened, I tried everything: It wouldn't show in Invisible Geometry, so it can't be on the inside of the surface. When I tried Shade Artwork (slower), the whole program just shut down right away...
             Â
Interestingly, when I selected a vector symbol, it appeared on the surface perfectly...any thoughts on what that could be?

I have seen this phenomenon in CAD for years, since I started on R2004. Text sometimes seems fuzzy when you copy and paste from another drawing. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, other times it's unavoidable.

Whenever I have text, its always fuzzy or pixelated, its really annoying.I have antialiasing selected, I have changed the dpi, made sure it was at 100% and whatever else I could think of.Also, I think the background is also a bit fuzzy, so that's why I think it is the dpi or something like that. But it is always not 100% sharp.I have attached a copy of the back cover. Its the same for all though.

I have read every tutorial that I can find online, and nothing is working. I am using Text+.
Â
I need the text to be as sharp as it is in Publisher, Word, etc. The text that I'm getting in Paint.NET is so fuzzy that I can't use it in my work.Â
Â
I have attached a sample - the top paragraph was created in Paint.net and pasted into Paint. The word "strategies" below was created in Paint, and it looks a lot better. I would rather not have to create all of my text in Paint (trying to get it sized and formatted correctly), and then past it as images into Paint.net.

I'm having this strange issue with the Photoshop type tool in Photoshop CS5. It might be, although I'm not sure, a bug. The tool itself is working and lets me add text and edit. But the box that shows up when editing text (and the blinking line that shows where I am in the text) - has gone invisible. I am having this issue in only one document. - I tested the type tool on other documents, and everything was normal. I've looked up shotcuts and hotkeys to check if I've tapped a key or something, but it doesn't appear to be so.
Â
Now about the document; it does have quite the amount of text layers, and a lot of text in them. I've tried resetting the type tool, and I've restarted the program.
Â
When I restart the program, the tool works as it's supposed to - but after editing or adding a new text layer, the editing area is gone again! Is this a bug, or have I touched keys that do odd things?

Can ayyone help me with what i suspect is a very simple question to most of you. I've created text in photoshop using a number of different fonts. i've placed antialias on them but they still seem to heve jagged edges!! Can anyone tell me What am i doing or not doing. Ive been using the standard horizontal text tool.
Also i'm teaching myself photoshop using the help section within the software. Do you think this is the most thorough and efficient way to learn?

When I type using "Smooth" font smoothing and the font size is small, all my characters appear in boxes (see image below). It does not happen if the font size is larger (say above 14pt). It also does not happen if I use "Crisp" or "Strong" but it happens to "None" as well. I encountered this problem in CS4 with OpenGL enabled. I turned it off but the problem remained. I also tried to open the same file in CS2 and the problem was exactly the same. I have not encountered this problem in other applications. I've updated my graphics drivers but no change. Thanks! In a layout for an ebook I have some important black and white bitmap illustrations in tiff., 300 dpi. These have appeared ok on print, but on screen, reading the same pdf-file, they're unacceptable, especially some texts in fontsize 5-6 pt are unclear. I have to convert the drawings, or at least the texts, to vector graphics. Can I open these tiff.s in Photoshop, change only the texts to vector graphics and then save in a format, that can be inserted in the Word2010 layout?

I am a student, when at school my drawing looks perfect. When I get home my text looks like it has been enlarged. I have checked all the sizes and have annotative turned off. I assume this has to be some setting that I have selected on my home computer but I can't find anything.

In X6 text shows up on the screen with ragged edges unless selected. This does not allow an appropriate visual assessment of a full page.
I don't recall if this happened in X5, but I am pretty sure it didn't happen in X3.Is there any mechanism of turning this "feature" off. It is completely unwanted in my view.

I have Inventor professional 2011 & AutoCAD 2011.Both these programs are showing the same error. This is only affecting one PC out of 20 installed with the software
The text beneath the icons at the top of the screen appear as empty rectangular boxes. It would appear to be unable to render the character (as if it was a foriegn language set)
The PC language is set to UK English as is the keyboard.

I'm trying to figure out how to fill this text with smooth edges. The blue part is the font I'm using and the white part is what I filled, using the paint bucket. You can see some jagged/uneven edges between the white and blue. I have tried different blurs, median at low radius, smart blur and several other things. I have even tried those things on just the blue text before filling with the paint bucket and it still shows up like this.

I've copied and pasted sections from old drawings into new ones, and it seems to have completely messed up some fundamental aspects of my AutoCad.
After I pasted I received some error message which I didn't understand. I think it said something about a "Language" problem, (Needless to say I clicked the nice big "OK" button without any thought). Now, every time I open CAD there are these square symbols where there should be text
I am running CAD from my company computer, so can't use the add/remove programmes repair trick. How I can reset all/relevant settings within CAD to get things back to normal?
I'm running the 2010 model.
