I have a white text (without any effects) on a transparent background. When I save it as a .gif image and use it as a logo on a dark background, the text is not smooth anymore. What is the right parameters for saving as a .gif image for web? I mean in the dialog window when saving.

Something that has always stumped me, is whenever I have created text on top of a transparent background using photoshop, saved for web, gif @ 256 colours and applied to the webpage, no matter what I do the text always look frazzled around the edges. Is there a technique to creating transparent text that looks smooth?
Do I need to increase the dpi?
I am trying to put text with a black light film in the background at the bottom of the picture and I cannot do it. I don't know how to isolate the portion of the picture I want with the text with the light black background while you can still see the picture through black background.

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color background, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the background layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): URL... I want to create the effect a clipping mask would have, but for use as an overlay for a motion graphics project, I've tried various methods but the problem I can't resolve is how to do it with the translucent solid color layer as well. I want the text to show right through the gradient tot he video elements it will be laid over, almost like the text was written with an eraser.

I've typed in the text in the color that I want. I've clicked on the magic wand, clicked on the white space and I get the checkered background. But it also covers my text and then when I try to use the saved image, it's all completely transparent.

I need an image on my website with a transparent background. I first tried creating this as a gif, but it looked horrible over my website background image. Then I tried saving it as a png, which looked much better, but it has jagged edges. What is the right way to create a transparent image in PS so that it will have smooth borders? It is basically a circle, about 60 px wide, with a solid color in the center and a border of about 2 px. Nothing fancy. why is it when i EXPORT a png with the checkerboard background the outline looks like an 8 bit nintendo outline when placed on a website? These type of pngs with the checkerboard background are meant to be viewed as having no background...which actually works for me but the outline looks horrible.
what do i need to do to fix that outline issue? Is there some sort of setting that i have to tweak?
I created a gradient using the gradient tool. If you look at the image I supplied, you can see a clear line between the white background and the -what is supposed to be- white bg color of the gradient. Why is this not smoother?

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?
Can ayyone help me with what i suspect is a very simple question to most of you. I've created text in photoshop using a number of different fonts. i've placed antialias on them but they still seem to heve jagged edges!! Can anyone tell me What am i doing or not doing. Ive been using the standard horizontal text tool.
Also i'm teaching myself photoshop using the help section within the software. Do you think this is the most thorough and efficient way to learn?
When I type using "Smooth" font smoothing and the font size is small, all my characters appear in boxes (see image below). It does not happen if the font size is larger (say above 14pt). It also does not happen if I use "Crisp" or "Strong" but it happens to "None" as well. I encountered this problem in CS4 with OpenGL enabled. I turned it off but the problem remained. I also tried to open the same file in CS2 and the problem was exactly the same. I have not encountered this problem in other applications. I've updated my graphics drivers but no change.Thanks! View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I put text into photoshop CS3, and then zoom into it, the edges are all fuzzy and jaggy.
I was of the opinion that all text were vectors in PS and so the edges should be smooth as. Unfortunately, the text prints out all jaggedy on my laser printer also just like it looks on the screen. I've also played with the anti-alias options somewhat. Obviously when I do this in Illustrator, it is spot on vector, but not in PS.
What am I doing wrong here? When I convert the text into a shape, sure... the nice vector lines appear around text. But shouldn't the text be vector straight up when I create a text layer in PS, and then I should be able to rasterize it when adding filter effects etc?
Is there any way for me to work with my text in Photoshop in sharp vector-resolution so that it's sharp at all resolutions? Let me describe a test I've done:
I open up a A4 300 ppi resolution document in Photoshop and simply type the word "Photoshop" at 72pt size Myriad Pro font. The anti-aliasing is set to 'Crisp'. Firstly, it doesn't look the best as it is on the screen with the edges 'jaggy'. Secondly, I hit print and it tells me I'm printing to a non-postscript printer (i.e my laser which I know IS postscript!!). When it prints out, it looks crap just like it did on my screen (edges jaggy).
I then open up a simple A4 document in Illustrator, type the word "Photoshop" at the same size text as outlined above. Looks great on screen OBVIOUSLY because it's vector-based and is sharp at all resolutions. I hit print, it it spits out the document perfectly printed as it is on screen.
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with Photoshop, but my text looks garbage only when using Photoshop. Not with any other program out there (ie. MS Word, Publisher, Illustrator, Serif Drawplus, Serif Pageplus, Serif Photoplus....)
How do I make the background of a photo transparent so when it is imported to Illustrator it does not appear with as an image in a white box?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a file with 2 layers, one (Layerone) that is blank, i.e. no fill or anything. The other layer (Layertwo) has text. I save the file as a .gif, select transparent, select matte as none, and keep getting a white background when I upload the file to my website.
I also tried copying the text Layer to the clipboard, creating a a new file with the background set as 'transparent', then pasting the text only layer into the new file. I still get the white background when I upload to website.
It can't be this hard to get a transparent background. What am I doing wrong?
