Photoshop :: Making Mattes To Use On Video Projects With Translucent Background And Transparent Text?
Dec 17, 2012
I want to create the effect a clipping mask would have, but for use as an overlay for a motion graphics project, I've tried various methods but the problem I can't resolve is how to do it with the translucent solid color layer as well. I want the text to show right through the gradient tot he video elements it will be laid over, almost like the text was written with an eraser.

I want to make the background of some images transparent so I select the backgrounds and try to delete them, though sometimes if it was white the background remains white and other times it pops up with the fill panel asking me what I want to fill the area with and transparent pixels are not an option, and other times I know I have deleted the background and it has shown me the checkerboard pattern indicating that it was indeed transparent.

I have some black ink writing on a piece of white paper. I would like the writing to become part of a separate colour picture, but without showing the white background.
I was hoping someone could explain how I would go about making the white backround from the piece of paper trasparent, so I can put the writing on the picture, making it look like part of the picture.

I'm designing for web, and I want to make a box that is white and has 50% translucency.
So that things can be seen though, but they are faded so that text can go on top.
I've tried all- matting and .gifs and .pngs and dithering -

I'm designing a header logo for a website with Photoshop CS4 (Mac) but am struggling to understand how to get the background transparent.
In Photoshop I've designed the logo using multiple layers. Prior to saving I've disabled the background layers (used for testing purposes), thus leaving a transparent area behind the logo (shown as a checkerboard pattern). However, I don't understand what the next step is. I've tried "Save for web" as well as flattening it first, only to result in a white background. I suppose I don't need to flatten it then I've also messed around with the transparency and matte options in the "Save for web" window but to no avail (yes, I know that I need to save in either GIF or PNG though for the latter I don't know the difference between PNG 8 and 24 and which of the three formats I should go for).
As for "Matte"; is this the color in the image which should be made transparent? So that in my case with a logo containing white among several colors I should make the background something entirely different from the logo as a background layer and choose "Matte" for that? I've also experimented with that but to no avail.

I have an image I'm making the background transparent on, but it's making part of the image itself transparent. Am I going to have to use the eraser in order to not make the part of the image transparent and just the background? Or is there another option I can use, cause the fuzzy tool isn't working out .

I have a 3d animation project I created successfully in PS CS4. It has a transparent background. I need my final movie in a .SWF format. In photoshop,when I render the animation to video (.MOV) it renders with a black background, loosing the transparency. How can I render this to video with the alpha channel intact so that the background is transparent?

Been working on this one for a while. Tried some searching on the site here, but I just haven't found a good solution for my needs.
I have rounded logo for my business. I like to paste it into emails and some marketing materials in either a jpeg or png format. The problem is the background of the page keeps showing up in the export file. Any quick solutions to this? I have pasted a copy of it in the text here.

I want to create a collage of small pictures. I would like some of the pictures to be rotated, but not at 90 deg or 180 - at smaller angles off normal. I do not see how to rotate an image by a preselected angle, or rotate on the fly.
As a second question, for the pictures I want to make the background [usually a solid color, white] transparent so I can overlay one object with another.
How do I make just the background fully transparent, without affecting an object?

I am new to Gimp and would like to ask if there is a way to make a good worn out effect more or less like this on a black logo. The problem is that they are using a fork for it and I am a student and can't afford a fork.
The aim is to make a black print on transparent background with transparent scratched "holes". Are there any tips how to do this?

how to remove a background from a translucid/see-through image (where the background can be partly seen behind the image). I included an example in an attachment.
I am able to render anything around the image itself to transparency (using the alpha channel, selection tools, etc.). But in translucent images such as in my example, that leaves what is "behind" the image (that brown stuff in this case).

My heading would be DARKSTAR_legend. White in colour against a black background. "DARKSTAR" will be 38pt, Book Antique font, and "_legend" will be 28pt, Arial font. I would want the "DARKSTAR_legend" to be translucent, or semi-translucent.

I was able to do the fire technique and had a great time. What I want to do is kick it up a notch and make a youth sports poster with Fire (just for my kids team). I want to have fire surrounding the kids (big wall of fire in the background) Not really sure how to do it. I know I can follow the directions with the text and take it a bit further, but hoping for a little direction to start. I have a fairly decent working knowledge with Photoshop.

I have created a gradient background in photoshop and positioned this on my webpage using css.
I thought it would be nice to create some page titles in photoshop instead of using regular fonts.
Something that has always stumped me, is whenever I have created text on top of a transparent background using photoshop, saved for web, gif @ 256 colours and applied to the webpage, no matter what I do the text always look frazzled around the edges. Is there a technique to creating transparent text that looks smooth?
Do I need to increase the dpi?

I have a jpg file (part of our logo) white background with black text and I would like to change it to transparent background and keep the black text (to be able to insert it on a cup image).
I tried to change it in photoshop, however, when I slide the "opacity" and "fill", the text got ligther as well.
Do I need to have the original psd.file to be able to do that, or can you please lead me through with jpg file? (I tried to save the jpg to psd and png, but it did not work.)
I looked on one of your videos, but I could not find one of the features under "Select" tab.
My plan is to recreate the text to have the transparent background if necessary (It would be great if I can avoid that). However, how do I find out which font was originaly used? Does photoshop has this feature, or do I need to go trough each of the font one-by-one?
how do I change space between letters (to have them more tight. I am not able to find it.

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color background, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the background layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): URL... Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the background color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7.

I created a layer of text in Photoshop (CC) that has a transparent background. I want to place this text in an Illustrator document overtop of the artwork already there.
I dragged the layer from PS into AI. It transfered fine but in AI is has a white background.
I am sure there must be a way around this - I just don't know AI well enough.

I am trying to save text as an image.
I've typed in the text in the color that I want. I've clicked on the magic wand, clicked on the white space and I get the checkered background. But it also covers my text and then when I try to use the saved image, it's all completely transparent.
How do I do this so that the text shows up, but the background remains transparent?

Ever since I switched to Photoshop Elements 10 and subsequently 11 (both are on my computer), I have been unable to add music media.
I copied ALL of my music CDs to my hard drive and to my iphone etc. They are there and I can play them. I have been unable to add my music. For example this is what happens when I am in Photoshop Elements 10 slideshow:
* ADD MEDIA
* Audio from folder
* iTunes
* iTunes Media
* Music from CDs
* every folder I try returns the message "no items match your search".

I am having trouble with Adobe Premiere Pro CC regarding which video formats it will accept in my video editing.
I have tried uploading basic .avi, .mp4, and .mov files, but they all say "unsupported format or damaged file" and I know that the files are definitely not damaged.
I can convert all video files to whatever mainly-used format but it would take a while to find the right ones.

I have always rendered my projects to DVD (mpeg) video files and then used those to 'create disk' (ie create movie).
I also thought that to prevent 'create' disk' from rendering again that all the attributes (constant or variable, kbs, audio compression) used during rendering must be the same as when creating disk.
Is there any benefit from creating a movie (for burning) using either method? Is it faster overall 'creating disk' using project files than rendering first? The reason I ask is that today it seemed to take 'forever' to 'create disk' using pre-rendered files.
I realise that you always see the warning that 'this action will take some time to render' but I thought that if all the attributes were the same that no rendering was done.

Just skip from Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 to full version of VS Pro X3. Of course my first question is: Is possible transfer my unfinished projects to VS? And how?
Second: After capture my DV tape from Panasonic 400 to Hard Drive (with default setup and 16:9) I discovered that every few seconds video is distorted as well as sound is distorted too. I am sure that original tape is OK.
