Photoshop :: Making A Web Logo With Transparent Background?
Apr 13, 2012I'm designing a header logo for a website with Photoshop CS4 (Mac) but am struggling to understand how to get the background transparent.

In Photoshop I've designed the logo using multiple layers. Prior to saving I've disabled the background layers (used for testing purposes), thus leaving a transparent area behind the logo (shown as a checkerboard pattern). However, I don't understand what the next step is. I've tried "Save for web" as well as flattening it first, only to result in a white background. I suppose I don't need to flatten it then I've also messed around with the transparency and matte options in the "Save for web" window but to no avail (yes, I know that I need to save in either GIF or PNG though for the latter I don't know the difference between PNG 8 and 24 and which of the three formats I should go for).

As for "Matte"; is this the color in the image which should be made transparent? So that in my case with a logo containing white among several colors I should make the background something entirely different from the logo as a background layer and choose "Matte" for that? I've also experimented with that but to no avail.

Feb 14, 2014I made a logo using elements. I have tried numerous ways to make it transparent but when I put it on my pictures there is a white square box that appears with it. I want my whole logo to be transparent. I have saved it png, png 24. And still nothing works. How to get this box to disappear. Just to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong I took a photo and made the background transparent and took the selection that was not and put it into a different photo and the white square edge was still around it.

Sep 16, 2011I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

Oct 16, 2012I want to make the background of some images transparent so I select the backgrounds and try to delete them, though sometimes if it was white the background remains white and other times it pops up with the fill panel asking me what I want to fill the area with and transparent pixels are not an option, and other times I know I have deleted the background and it has shown me the checkerboard pattern indicating that it was indeed transparent.

I'm using AI within CS5.5 but new to it. I am importing/converting a JPG file to vector format. The image is a logo with a large black circle boundry and a white opaque background. The background elements inside the boundry circle are also opaque white, and I wish to leave that as is. The edges of the circle touch the boundries of the JPG file tangentially by about 100px or so on each side when the JPG is viewed at original size.

My objective is to make everything outside the boundry circle a "transparent" background. What would be the best/easiest way to do this within AI? Is there, for example, a tool that will draw a circle that I can expand to get on the edge of the black boundry circle, and then make everything outside it transparent?

May 28, 2011I started trying to mess around on paint.net trying to make a new background. I have the start of my design but it is all on top of white and that ruins it. Is there a way that I can either make the white transparent or change it all to a different color? It is the only white in the whole picture, but it is divided up into a bunch of places.

Jul 27, 2007I took an image that was a JPG of an icon on a white background, set the blending mode to Multiply, and painted white underneath the icon to preserve the colors.
This basically leaves me with 2 layers that comprise the icon and its transparent background, and works wonderfully.
However, I need to save this icon as a GIF with the transparent background, but when I save it the white background persists. I've tried loading the white bit as a selection and deleting what's outside, but that removes pieces of the image that aren't 100% transparent or opaque that I'd like to leave in for matte-ing.
I don't know if I've explained this properly, so I'll attach the problem file. [quite small, only 160KB] I popped in a background for a better idea what I'm attempting, and if you remove it you'll see the troublesome white around the icon.
I'm using Photoshop 7 on WinXP Pro.

All layers are theirs and the work is very simple to understant. I use filter->Render->Cloud and filter->Noise->Add noise for the last layer + setting it to screen option.
I would be happy to explain to me ho to change the background to transparent if possible of course.

Oct 5, 2011I have a .jpg file of a band logo with white text (bordered by sketchy black outlines) on a white background. I'd like to keep the text and border effects the same but make the background transparent and then save it as a transparent .png or .gif so that just the white text (with the black text borders still included) appears the same on my website no matter what the background color of the page is. I want to keep all the black sketchy outlines intact and I want the white text itself to remain white and not transparent, I just want the white background surrounding it to be transparent. I've tried selecting just the text with all the little lines and such of the text borders included so that I can make it into a new layer and then paste it onto a transparent background but I've been having trouble successfully selecting it...the way the text is written, I haven't had much luck using the magic wand or quick selection tools to properly select it.
Another (less desirable) option would be to fill in the white background with the background color of the page I'm going to be posting it on (hex color #1d1d1d) but filling it in with the paint bucket in Photoshop CS5 fills in the majority of the white text as well so that hasn't really worked either.
