GIMP :: Eliminating White Background From Logo?
Nov 28, 2013
I have a black logo with complex lines, text, etc. The only copies I have of the logo are with a white background (probably from having been saved on a document page?). I want the logo to have a neutral/clear background so that I can paste it on pages with gradient backgrounds, etc. and not have the white show.

I created a logo and then opened it as a layer so that I can make a website header image. It is shown here [URL] and as you can see the background is an off-white colour. It is probably unnoticeable to many, but I would prefer to get it right. How can I make the background a pure white so that it blends in with the white of the wordpress theme?

I scanned a family photo and the result is about 25% of a letter size sheet.
I wish to attach this to a 'My Family' post, but the result I desire is just he photo without the white space around the photo.

A logo file was sent over to me with a white background. I am very new to Illustrator so I do not know how to change this. I checked the layers and it only shows 1 layer and an image file. I tried saving for the web, but there is no transparency area there either.

Im working in Illustrator CS5 and I've designed a logo for a client and want to send a version that is in color, a version that's black, and a version that's white. The color and black are fine since they already stand out on the default white/transparent background. But i want to put the white design on a background that will make it visible. Is there a way to set up the document so that the background is a color so that you can see the white design, but when it's place into another document it's just the design and dosen't include the backgound?

I'm creating two websites for two different clients, and both gave me scanned copies of their logos. I converted them to GIF, JPG, BMP and PNG (from MS paint program), followed all the directions found online in various combinations to remove the white background from these logos. Here's a sample of what I did:
import logo; edit bitmap; change background; used magic wand on white areas; close paint & export doc. I've tried various combinations of clicking on options like transparency, masking, changing the tolerance and nothing works.
On one the white background simply won't go away after saving to my desktop, and on the other there is a grey/white checkerboard pattern on the background.
When it's all said & done, I need to upload these to Wix.com as a PNG.
I'm at my wits end been trying to do this for two days after work, wondering if Corel is even capable of doing this, or if my clients' logos are just unusable or if I'm just losing it.

just downloaded Paint.net a week ago. I am trying to convert a color logo from it's original design to a white log over a solid background, like the image attached. I need the solid background separate from the logo so I can change the color.

Quick question, I just created a logo and I'm wondering if there is a way to export the logo into jpeg without the white background. I create posters for my husbands business and it will not be a problem when i add our logo to our posters because I can just remove the background myself.
My problem will be when I have to send the logo to other companies, they usually ask for the logo in jpeg. I've already exported the logo into a jpeg but of course the white document background appears. Is there any way to export ONLY the logo into a jpeg?

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

I have a simple JPG file that is a black and white logo, which I want to change the colour properties of in Gimp. But the colour range isn't true black and white, so using all sort of different methods such as magic wand selection, colour to alpha etc results in either really messy looking images or a lot of faffing around to correct the final image.

Okay so I'm trying to take the white background off of a picture using the select a color on white, but it takes out a lot or the fur and eyes(it's a picture of a cartoon cat) How can I remove the areas of can from the selection without removing the pieces of cat too.
It's creative commons, so I guess I can post screen shots...
The cat is from [URL]...
A general idea of the selected area
What happens when I take out the selected area
So how can I take the pieces of the cat out of the selected area so when I try to delete the background I don't get an invisible cat?

How to eliminate the white backgrounds on scanned-in sketches/line art.
1. Open the scanned art work in Photoshop. Make sure that the color mode is set to RGB Color.
If the background is a pure white, skip to step 4. If the background is grayish, go on to the next step.
2. Open the Levels window (Ctrl+L). You should now see a jagged pattern in the center with three arrows right below it. Drag the Black arrow to the right until the background is almost white or until the lines are about to go jagged-mode on you. Click OK to apply the changes.
3. Now adjust the Brightness/Contrast (Image->Adjust->Brightness/Contrast) and move the Contrast slider until the background is white.
4. Select All (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C). Open the Channels window if it isn't out already (Window->Show Channels). Click on the Create new Channel button and Paste (Ctrl+V) into that channel.
5. While having the Channel selected, Invert (Ctrl+I) the image.
6. Click on the Load Channel as Selection button and a marquee should now surround the white lines.
7. Go back to your Layers window and click on the Create new Layer button. While having the foreground color set as black, fill the selection with the foreground twice (Alt+Backspace)X2. This should now leave you with the outline of the pencil strokes minus the white background.
8. Delete the original image layer and place a layer filled with white below it.

I'm attempting clean up some JPG images of product for sale. I do not know the technical terms for what I am attempting to do. I wish to eliminate all of the background space. I wish for the file to display only the product as if floating in empty white space.
I am using Adobe Photoshop Limited Edition; I also may use Adobe Illustrator.

I have a schematic that I scanned in and cleaned up PS. When it scanned there was a lot of background noise in a strip up the center of the file.
I've removed most of it and darkened the image itself back up and am pretty happy with the way it prints directly from PS. However, I need to convert it to a pdf (it is part of a manual that needs to be available online). Everytime I do it it comes out horrible with all sorts of fuzz and noise around the entire scanned image. The text comes out okay.
how I can eliminate the noise in the pdf?

Created test image on a white background. Saved it as a png file. I go to Layer...Transparency....Add Alpha Channel.
I then click fuzzy select tool and click in the white area of the image then hit delete to remove the white background. When I re-save the image, I get the image on a checkered background.
Got the instructions from here: [URL] ........
Seems to work with downloaded/created by someone else images but not with images I create myself.

as an example using a earlier post "Changing a white background to transparent (.png)" I have zoomed part of the edge of the logo.It varies from white through grey then up to the logo colour. My Query how do you decide at what point in this change do you stop the transparent section? As when you put colours or pictures as a background you would I think have to reblend the edges for each type of background.
