Photoshop :: Editing A JPG File: Eliminating Background Space
Aug 6, 2008
I'm attempting clean up some JPG images of product for sale. I do not know the technical terms for what I am attempting to do. I wish to eliminate all of the background space. I wish for the file to display only the product as if floating in empty white space.
I am using Adobe Photoshop Limited Edition; I also may use Adobe Illustrator.

The image above is for a website which has a colored background. The image will be exported as a PNG file so that the background is transparent. I am unable to eliminate the space above 40th. It seems the bounding box around the character can not go past the artboard area. Is there a way to crop in Illustrator or do something to the character so that it is flush at the top on the artboard area?

I have a schematic that I scanned in and cleaned up PS. When it scanned there was a lot of background noise in a strip up the center of the file.
I've removed most of it and darkened the image itself back up and am pretty happy with the way it prints directly from PS. However, I need to convert it to a pdf (it is part of a manual that needs to be available online). Everytime I do it it comes out horrible with all sorts of fuzz and noise around the entire scanned image. The text comes out okay.
how I can eliminate the noise in the pdf?

I have a black logo with complex lines, text, etc. The only copies I have of the logo are with a white background (probably from having been saved on a document page?). I want the logo to have a neutral/clear background so that I can paste it on pages with gradient backgrounds, etc. and not have the white show.

I use x-ref's inserted in model space and label in paper space - always.
I would like to see a way of locking out model space while editing text in paper space. Unless you double click right on the text, you often end up in Model Space...I know - big deal right? It can become annoying or a big deal when a deadline is looming - when is one never? Also big fan of locking viewports.

I know I can set LightRoom Preferences to open an image in Photoshop, but it seems my only choices are ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB or sRGB as working spaces. I'd like to set it up to use BetaRGB as my standard editing space. I know I could open in ProPhoto and convert to Beta RGB, but that is an extra step each and every time I edit an image. I would prefer to go straight from LR to Beta RGB in Photoshop.

I have this image with an intense orange background.
I want to change the color of the background to a light green, or even white (depending on my boss' mood). But the background color leaves me with an undesirable orange color-cast on the old man.
this is only a very rough clipping, the final version will be well refined.
way to eliminate this color-cast, most noticable on his hair. How would you go about it?

How to eliminate the white backgrounds on scanned-in sketches/line art.
1. Open the scanned art work in Photoshop. Make sure that the color mode is set to RGB Color.
If the background is a pure white, skip to step 4. If the background is grayish, go on to the next step.
2. Open the Levels window (Ctrl+L). You should now see a jagged pattern in the center with three arrows right below it. Drag the Black arrow to the right until the background is almost white or until the lines are about to go jagged-mode on you. Click OK to apply the changes.
3. Now adjust the Brightness/Contrast (Image->Adjust->Brightness/Contrast) and move the Contrast slider until the background is white.
4. Select All (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C). Open the Channels window if it isn't out already (Window->Show Channels). Click on the Create new Channel button and Paste (Ctrl+V) into that channel.
5. While having the Channel selected, Invert (Ctrl+I) the image.
6. Click on the Load Channel as Selection button and a marquee should now surround the white lines.
7. Go back to your Layers window and click on the Create new Layer button. While having the foreground color set as black, fill the selection with the foreground twice (Alt+Backspace)X2. This should now leave you with the outline of the pencil strokes minus the white background.
8. Delete the original image layer and place a layer filled with white below it.

I just upgraded from PSE 7 and I absolutely cannot stand that they made the parts circled in my image un-moveable (as far as I can tell). Any fix for minimizing these? In my opinion the "Open/Quick/Guided/Expert" panel is an utter waste of space.

Thought this was a Photoshop problem. When I select a portion of an image in Photoshop (which has come from Lightroom) and press Delete, it no longer brings up the Fill dialog; it just deletes the pixels.
After some discussion on the Photoshop forum, I see that now, when I tell Lightroom "Edit in Photoshop", it creates a file which does not have a Background layer, and this causes the Delete key to act differently. This was not the case several weeks ago, but has just started to happen. Is there any adjustment I can make to the "Edit In" settings to get a Background layer in Photoshop?

I have Photoshop Elements 8 and just recently it changed a bit. When on the active tab (any tab) the background outside my working space is completely black instead it's usual gray. I don't know how it happened but I would like it back to normal. I've attached my screenshot below.

Any way to change that background in which we create models. Someone said that Autodesk knows better than the users so we have a choice between drab grey and depressing grey.
I am using AC 2014 and I still cannot find a way to change that background.

When I went to add text to a video sequence in the Title feature, the words "Double-click Here to Add Text" appeared.
Which I did. The text I wanted appeared in the sequence and showed up OK after saving and replay--but so did that "Double-Click Here to Add Text!"
I couldn't figure out how to delete THAT unwanted message--any hints on how to do that?

I recently stopped using my HP755 plotter and am now plotting "dwg to pdf". The problem is when I go to plot I get a warning message stating that "this plotter configuration cannot be used" and it goes on to list a few reasons why and selects the "none" plotter. Then when at the plot setup page I can continue to plot as I normally would. Why am I getting this warning and how do I stop it?

I have a subdivision plat that I'm working on with a curved lot line. When I label this particular lot line, Civil 3D labels it like it's two different segments. In other words, instead of labeling the line as a 100 foot long arc with a radius of 100 feet, it labels it as a 60 foot arc and a 40 foot arc. I can't figure out how to combine the two segments.
All of the lots lines were created from polyline objects, and there was no break in the original line work (nor is there any indication of a break in this location when I select it).

I have a picture of a toy, I want to lift the toy off the background and leave only white space around it.
Here's what I've accomplished so far:
Created new layer Used the rounded rectangle to isolate the toy inverted the image used the magic wand to crop areas that had to go cropped as close to the toy as possible. Now I have the image but it's on this ugly, bits and pieces left over square.
What I'd like to know is: will making the background transparent fix it?
I'm still playing with it and saw a tutorial on transparency, but each time I attempt to do it - the entire image disappears.
