Photoshop :: Stacking Layers Top-to-tail To Create Long Banner Print Of Software Code?

Aug 31, 2013

I have lots of software code (in tSQL, html, JavaScript, XAML, and C#) that I need to print in a long scroll. The scroll will be no more than 440mm wide and as long as it needs to be (though the roll of paper is 45 m long so I’ll need to make sure it is shorter than that).

The resulting code listing is to from part of an exhibit contrasting the ‘sketching’ phase in a multidisciplinary project between design, social science, and software engineering. The exhibit will form part of the Research Through Design conference [URL]...

At first I thought I’d print straight from the development environment (Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio) but I realise now that is not possible because

1) Both tools assume standard page sizes, and
2) I need to rotate the software code listing 180 degrees so that the end of the listing is at the tail of the paper roll.

For these reasons I’m doing it in Adobe Photoshop (CS5, 64 bit, on Windows 8).My workflow for this is verging on the ridiculous.

1) If I cut-and-paste the code listings file by file from Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio into Photoshop (or Illustrator) I lose the formatting, for example the coloring of comments differently form variable declarations. (See [URL]...)

Thus Step 1 is to cut-and-paste each file into a Microsoft Word document.

2) If I cut-and-paste from the Microsoft Word document into Photoshop I still loose the formatting, and Microsoft Word does not seem to be able to cope with the paper roll nor rotating the print. So I save the Microsoft Word document as a PDF and open that into Photoshop.

3) I now have 51 Photoshop files each with one layer containing the text for that ‘page’, though I think it’s an image as it is not editable as text. I then save each of these files.

4) Using Adobe Bridge I open all 51 Photoshop files created in Stage 3 and “Load Files into Photoshop Layers” so that I have a new single Photoshop file with all 51 text image layers in.

5) The layers sit on top of each other. What I need is for them to sit head-to-toe. I don’t know how to do this without spending a million years selecting layers and moving them by hand.

6) If I ever get Stage 5 done I will then group the 51 layers and rotate the result through 180 degrees.

7) I will then resize the result to have a width of 400mm and print the resulting file on our banner printer, having first calculated the resulting paper ‘height’ and turned off the automatic paper cutting.

So my questions are:

1) Is there a better way of doing this?
2) I can see the Photoshop actions that will align layers by their tops, their bottoms, or their centers but how do I automatically align them so that the bottom of layer 1 touches the top of layer 2, the bottom of layer 2 touches the top of layer 3, etc.?

Photoshop :: Stacking Layers

May 11, 2006

I've been using photoshop cs (now cs2) for a year - especially for photography, and there is something that I just don't understand which should be as simple as scratching your ....back. I often apply multiple filters on different layers like this: copy background layer (call it base layer) and every time I'm applying a new filter I'm doing so by stacking a "frech" copy of the base layer and painting on Layer Masks if needed - no problems so far.

My question is: When I'm stacking with a fresh base layer ready to get some - lets say noise - the underlaying layer (could be for example a blur filter) dissapears - I know I can copy the layermask and drag it up if I have for example reshapend the eyes, but the blur of course dissapears. As for now i just flatten the image and start again but I know this is not the right way to do it.

Is it possible to aplly multiple filters on top of each other and then use merge visible and then at last apllying the merge visible layer a layer mask and paint back the sharpnees of eyes, lips ect. SHORT: HOW DO I STACK LAYERS WITH MULTIPLE FILTERS AND AT THE SAME TIME MAINTAIN THE EFFECTS ON MY WORKING DOCUMENT (PICTURE). Thanks for any advice given .

Photoshop :: Layers Stacking Order

May 26, 2008

applyng a layer and flattening. Now i really want to get over this hurdle so that i can save important images unflattened for further re-adjustment later.

I have browsed the web for two days and found nothing that helps me. The crux of the issue is that i get to a point where i have applied maybe three adjustment layers and then aaply say a sharpening layer only to find i cannot see its effect on the image due to its order in the stack.

Photoshop :: Why It Would Take So Long For Print Dialog Box To Open After Selecting Print

Dec 5, 2012

-PC based system running Windows Home Premium 64 bit8 GB ramLots of hdd spaceCS5.5 Master Suite
-Epson Sylus Photo R1900

Operating system, CS5 suite and printer drivers all updated.

When attempting to print a photo, it can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes for the print dialog box to open up. It takes SO LONG that it appears that Photoshop has frozen, but it has not.  The print dialog box opens eventually.  This started about 2 months ago. I have looked at all preferences, assigned more RAM to Photoshop, uninstalled and reinstalled the entire suite, ran all updates, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers - all to no avail.

I am at a loss as to why it would take SO LONG for the print dialog box to open after selecting print? I thought there may be a problem with the print spooler or print queue, but the slowness happens BEFORE the print back system is touched. The print queue is empty, and there is nothing stuck in there.  I've checked.

Photoshop :: Vista Print Banner (XL) For PC Gaming Store

Nov 13, 2012

I own a new LAN Gaming/IT Store thats been open for around 3 weeks and I am in need of a photoshop master for 2 high res banners from Vista Print. I've uploaded their XL Banner Photoshop template, and 2 images that I would like incorporated (this type of design is used on the window advertising), or a new design with the same color and feel (Blue, PC ...components). The first banner needs to say "Solutionz Computing", and display a list of our services in a computing style font, in dot points or however you can creatively display it - it needs to say:

- iDevice/Screen Repairs
- PS3/Xbox/Wii Modifications
- Eyefinity Racing Simulators
- Gadgetry (Solar, USB, novelty etc)

The second banner can have the same background, same "Solutionz Computing", just different dot points as follows:
------
- Party Hire
- Members Discounts and Benefits
- In-Store Gaming
- LAN Party Nights and Event Hosting

Xara :: MASSIVE Print Banner - Too Large To Export

Dec 19, 2013

I have a client who asked me to create artwork for a banner she is printing for a trade show. The banner is 19.5 FEET long and almost 8 feet high. I have designed the banner as 6.5x2.6ft with the intent of then dividing it into 9 equal parts which I would blow up to 6.5x2.6 and send off to the printer. So far so good. The problem is that the segments are still so large that when I try to export them as PDFs, I am running out of memory. I tried doing them as jpegs, but when I change the resolution for export to 300dpi, nothing changes- the number of pixels x umber of pixels doesn't increase. My client needs this artwork off to her printer asap and I am at a complete loss.

3ds Max :: Layers Take Too Long To Delete?

May 12, 2011

When i import a dwf it auto generates a layer for each piece of geometry in the file. There is no way to merge the layers during import that i know of.

So i just select every object and place them into the default layer0... takes 20 seconds.

Now i want to cleanup all the unused empty layers so i can make new layers later on. When i select the first layer... then SHIFT click the last layer 3dsmax lags then freezes.

When i do this same thing in 2010 the layers select properly... but once i hit delete 3dsmax freezes again! Now i know 3dsmax.. even if it freezes as long as its using any form of cpu its just processing. So i waited OVER-NIGHT just to delete a bunch of layers, and it worked! Deleting the layers one by one take 30seconds each... not going threw a thousand layers like that!

My questions: Why does deleting or even selecting a bunch of layers take a very very long time? Or even deleting one layer take a long time when theres alot of layers? Anyway to make this faster?

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Banner Plotting With 2011 And Ricoh W3601?

Jan 11, 2012

I'm using AutoCAD 2011 with a Ricoh Aficio W3601 plotter.  Occassionally I need to plot out pipe wraps for projects that would be longer than a 36" sheet.  Our plotter has a 36" x 150' roll capacity.  I have figured out how to define a custom user size paper and get it to show up correctly under the properties button in the plot dialogue box.  The print preview is correct, and the plotter cuts the paper off at the correct length, however, the printed portion of the plot is always cut off at 36" or is printed the wrong direction and limited by the roll width.  I have tried every combination of landscape/portrait combination without success.  I am trying to plot from the model tab using a 1:1 scale.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Long Delays When Printing From Drawings On Local Server?

Feb 8, 2013

When we print from a read-only drawing file that is stored on our local drawing fileserver (a PC on our network that is used to store all finished drawing files) it can take several minutes to open the Plot screen and several more minutes to actually print the drawing.  It doesn't matter which printer we use to print to.  Some of us have had this problem since AutoCAD 2010 but some have had it only since 2013.  However if we use an old AutoCAD 2007 there is no printing delay problem so the server doesn't seem to be the source of the problem.

If we print from a drawing file on our own systems (which is actually working off a local network server unless the server is down then we are working off our own computers that will re-sync with the server when it comes back on line) then there is no delay.  I have  made some local files read-only to see if that was the trigger but no, they printed just fine.

Should I use VS10 to 'create disk'?

BTW I authored using the same characteristics as I used when I created my DVD file (create video file) so I don't think that it re-rendered.Also I am creating a 'standard definition' DVD not high def.
