Photoshop :: PDF Larger Than PSD File
May 27, 2009
In PS CS4 I have a Photoshop file that is 46 MB. I saved this same file as a PDF, but the PDF is 86 MB. Isn't the point of a PDF to be more compact? I have set the settings as Press Quality with the default settings when converting to the PDF. I did not flatten any layers, but I don't want them flattened because there is text on the page.

Whenever I tell LR to edit a photo in PS (CS6), I get back a TIFF file that is 10X larger than the orginal RAW file, and I ultimetly delete it to save space (after first converting it to a jpeg). Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?Â

Recently I moved to CS3 from CS2. Now I notice that files I made in CS2 with particular settings weighted around 27 megabytes, 30 megabytes tops. These exact files weight 40 megabytes when saved in CS3. I think this is an ARGH!,
But picture this: maybe many of you have heard that if you hide the layers before saving the PSD, then the file size will be significantly smaller upon save. I tried this tip and it worked indeed. My CS3 files do weight as much now as they should, though without the layers shown. No chance this way to look at them, manage them with an image viewer etc.
is this a known and existent issue in CS3, does CS3 save and reveal some senselessly large "blind data" that CS2 could manage easily?

When I preview an image in windows, the properties panel says my file is only 958KB with dimensions 2400 x 2369. But when I open the file in photoshop (I have CS6) , it says my file is over 16MB with the same dimensions.

Issue is this: Photoshop's 'Save for Web & Devices' indicated file size does not appear to match size of actual exported file. I made a couple dozen animated gif banner ads that are required to be under 40k. I'm using PShop CS5 v 12.0.4 x64. I'm on an iMac osx 10.6.8
Â
Save for Web & Devices says a file will be 39.97k
Â
I click Preview to see the animation and get details. It agrees, preview file is 39.97k
 Â
So I save, and look at exported file in Finder (Get Info) And it is 57k
Â
I understand that this is portion of the hard drive used for storage and bigger than 39.97k because of smallest chunk size that can be allocated by Finder. But isn't second number (53,337 bytes) actual file size?
Â
So, question:
1) Is the file size still actually just 39.97k and if so is there a way to see this to prove to myself and the client?
2) If saved file is truly larger than export size indicated by photoshop, is there a straightforward way to accurately predict size at which file will be saved? Or is trial-and-error my best bet.

I am trying to optimize some images for web to have a smaller file size. I am using "Save for Web" feature, and every time I try to save a file, the actual file output size is a lot bigger than the size it shows on the "Save for Web" dialog.
For example, I have a 607 bytes .gif, when I open "Save for Web" it shows 207 bytes for 16-colors but when I save it the output file is 1.22 kb.

I am putting together 3 mpg files from the hard disk of a camcorder that records in mpg format. Separately, all 3 files combine to approx. 1 GB. When I combine these files using VideoStudio PRO X3, my file size jumps to 2-2.5 GB. All I'm doing is combining and that's it. No effects, no titles, nothing. How come the size explodes so much and how can I combine the 3 files and still have the original combined size of approx. 1 GB?

Using Premiere Pro CS6, I'm trying to figure out why it's doing this:
Â
I imported a video into a new sequence and made sure to match the sequence settings with the video's. I do some basic editing (not adding more video or anything like that) but when I choose to export media and have it match the sequence settings, the video appears to have the exact same attributes as the original video (minus my changes) except the file size is 2-5x larger.

I have re-installed APDS Ultimate 2013 onto a new computer and am having some issues setting up my styles and etc...for the most part I have been working on it as I go with no issues...but I can't remember how I set up my export to dxf settings before. I think I just used the default settings, I exported to dxf from the idw environment by saving copy as and selecting dxf from drop down menu and selecting something like AutoCAD 2004. This has worked before and still does now, but the problem is the dxf's that are exported are huge. The drawing is of a single tiny part with basic geometry. The picture below shows the size difference between the files.
how I can make it a normal size, I don't really care about the size of the dxf except for the fact that I can't email it because we have a limit of 10MB.

I've been using GIMP to make GIFS for a long time now, but recently the "optimize for difference" option I've used is having the reverse effect it should have- ie, it's making the file larger. Here's an example. It's the exact same image, same dimensions, same amount of colors. The first one is unoptimized, each frame is a full picture, and it's file size it ~149kb. The second one is the same as the first, except optimized with about ~50% of the pixels removed from each frame (except the first frame obviously), and yet it's file size is ~155kb. I can not for the life of me figure out why an image with most of it's pixels removed is creating a larger file size. [URL]...

I'm running PSPX3. the effect of no compression (or compression factor = 1) on saving files. I've got a JPEG image file straight from my camera that's approximately 4.1MB in size. If I do nothing else but "Save As" with a compression factor of 1, the new file size is approximately 50% larger, or 6.2MB. What has changed to make the file size larger? Both images are still 72DPI, 3648X2736px. I can't image that I have done anything to "improve" image quality, so why did the file size increase?

I can change the default cusor in XP Pro but it doesn't carry over to PS. The preferences/display&cursors tab is limited.
What I need is a heavier cursor or full cross hairs. I'm running 1920 x 1200 on a 22 inch Sony LCD screen. With aging eyes it's too difficult to pick up the tiny cross cursor on various photo backgrounds.

I started a new project. I set the file criteria for 4" wide 5" high, 300 resolution, CMYK.
When I save the file as a JPEG and export it for print the image is huge. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I check the settings again, after noticing they are huge, and the settings show it's still 4" wide 5" high, with 1200 pixels wide, 1500 pixels high.
What am I doing wrong? How can I avoid it on future projects, and how can I fix this project?

I placed an image on an 8.5x11 piece of paper and saved it as a PDF. Once it was printed directly from Acrobat the image was printed slightly larger than when I print directly from Photoshop. Why is this and is there any way I can fix it?
By the way I've already checked to see if "scale to fit page" was checked and it was not.
Â
I was wondering this b/c I'm sending a pdf to someone and I'm worried it's going to print larger than the actual size I want it at.

my internal driver is full on my laptop. I have to either buy a new external HD (500GB/7200rpm) or change to a larger internal one (500GB/7200 or 5400rpm). I am aware the external one will be lower compared to internal one. is it acceptable? I think that PS will use HD only when opening and saving the photos. It uses memory and scratch disk (configured on internal one) most of the time. I can not add the second internal HD. Only Photshop CS4 and MS office installed on this laption which is only used for PS. OS is window 7 64-bit with 4GB memory.

I'm runing into some problems trying to open a TIF that is 600MB. I get the following error message:
Could not complete the Open command because there is not enough memory (RAM).
Â
We are using Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.0.4 x64 on Mac OS X version 10.7.4. I've attached a screenshot of Activity Monitor displaying plenty of unused system RAM [1]. I've increased Photoshop's memory allowance (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Let Photoshop Use: 7277 MB (100%)), and I have an active Scratch Disk with more than 500 GB free.
Â
Bridge reports the following re the TIF 14409 x 16209, 600 ppi, scanned on a KIP 3000. There's probably RLE compression involved, but I haven't confirmed that.

I noticed this was a question when CS4 came out; I've just upgraded from CS3 to CS6 so am experiencing the problem decribed in an earlier thread here:

Â
I have an Nvidia Geforce 7900GS card with an old 2006 driver, 8.4.4.0Â Â I tried updating to driver 306.81 from earlier this month and whilst this solved the brush issue, it caused the PC's cooling fans to operate much more frequently (and noisily) than before so I concluded it was not so suitable for my card.
Â
In view of this, should I be trying an older driver, say from 2009 as the earlier post suggests "because that bug was fixed by Nvidia back in the Spring of 2009"
Â
If so, which one?
Â
I'm running XP, SP3Â PC has dual core Pentium CPU 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM (3.25 useable with XP) CS6 updated with all available updates.

I've never found a solution. I spent a half hour googling the issue - and got nowhere.
Â
If I open a ps file that's big, copy the content, and paste it into a smaller document, I have to do a Command-0, to be able to view the whole image with handles on the pasted content, then manually pull a corner with shift held down until it's close to the size to fit, then manually size the whole thing back up to 100%. Craziness.
Â
Why can't I paste content into another doc, have the transform handles be there, with the clipboard content sized within the window?
Â
This is NOT a problem with Placing stuff from Illustrator This has nothing to do with resolutions
Â
This is simply a request to find a way to paste something big, into something smaller, without having to zoom out until I can see the transform handles.

what settings or option do I need to take, if I want to save my .PSB as a JPEG and want to avoid reducing the size down to 30.000px. Actually I do not care if some editors won't be able to handle JPEGs larger than 30.000px. I just want to produce one with 39.000px, and can't imagine PS won't allow me to do that.

I drew in a concept and I accidentally increased a layer of 30000 pixel that is impossible in PSD. I did not realize it, there was not any problem no pop-up window,or nothing to indicate an error. I gave the save. No problem, everything is OK. I turn off photoshop. Well if Im wanted to start PSD again reported bug and incompatibility. The question is: is there any way to get working again in PS with layers? the possibility of somehow delete or cropping the wrong layer?i can save image in other programs but merged.

I'm not sure if anyone here can help me out but I'm having some problems with my Photoshop CS. Every time I go to put a brush onto the layout header I'm working on I get a program error message (Could not complete request due to a program error) and Photoshop closes. I get a pop-up from Windows telling me it will shut down Photoshop and notify me if there's a solution to be found. I've tried three separate brushes from three different custom brush sets and sll of them have caused Photoshop to shut down. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what can I do to fix it? For some odd reason this is only happening when I'm working with large 760x350 journal headers. I was able to work with a 350x80 banner just fine. I reinstalled Photoshop CS several times but that didn't do a thing. I tried going back to the original presets (I renamed the presets folder when I moved my presets from my old computer last fall) and using a default brush but that didn't work either. I asked in a help community over on Livejournal but that didn't bring me much help. I really want to be able to use my brushes on my larger graphics.
The odd thing is I'm trying to make a header for a layout that's 760x350 in size. I go to create the new graphic with that specific size and it won't accept the brushes and gives me those errors. I go to create a small banner (350x80) or a 100px square journal icon and it works just fine. It even works fine on an existing image that's 760px wide and over 400px in height. I haven't tried to start an image that size from scratch to see if that gives me the error or not. I had been getting some help from that Livejournal community but that didn't get me very far. I've posed this same issue on two separate forums and have yet to receive any help. This is a very weird and very specific issue that I need help with.
Just so you know I'm running Windows Vista on my system.

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS2 - and I've run into a awkward problem. I cannot get it to write text in larger than font 72. When I'm trying to insert text - it has the default sizes 6-72 for font size. Other is grayed out (always is, never seen it as an option to actually choose).
I've been reading multiple tutorials for help on Photoshop and many of them mention using a font larger than 72 for watermarks or whatever else may be.
No matter what font I choose, other is always grayed out. I've scavaged through their help files and can't find anything even remotely close to this issue - so wondering if anybody else has run into this?

I have just purchased Web Premium CS4. Photoshop CS4 Extended was included with the package and I installed and ran it. Sadly any large document I tried to open appears black and sometimes when I zoom in partly displays with random black lines through it. I have checked my system's specs and they all match up with the requirements. I am running Vista SP1 on a Dell computer. I have read all the knowledge base articles relating to this matter and have done everything they said (including disabling OpenGL, etc.)
