Photoshop :: Layers Don't Move When Selected?
May 15, 2012I am not able to move layers around on my layout once I have selected them. What could be wrong?

View 17 RepliesWhen I followed the step 2 from this tutorial:[URL] said Could not use the move tool because no layers are selected.

Seems like a focus issue perhaps? Latest Windows CS6 Photoshop updated to the latest version.
I find the crop tool in CS6 to be such a pain compared to the version in LR4. When using the mouse (in CS6) to reposition the crop area the box hops around and seems to "jump" into certain positions - this is especially pronounced if it gets close to an edge.
I realize I can reposition with the arrow keys but I was wondering if there is a way to disable the "jumping" while using the mouse?
Once i have 'selected by rectangle' and copied its innards how then can i move rect-image to where i want to place it? I am used to just clicking the 'pointer tool / move tool', and move it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Illustrator CS5.5.
I cannot move anything I select. I try to drag it and it makes the "bump" noise.
-I made sure that my preferences are not set to "object selection by path only".
-I've restarted my computer several times
-I tried to open a previous Illustrator file and I have the same problem
-I even uninstalled and reinstalled my entire Abode Suite beacuse I've been having several issues
I'm not sure if this is related but I also can't create a new document unless I use picas and CMYK coloring. It refuses to adjust to anything other than the default settings. Also, I can't increase the stroke of an object unless I type in the number, meaning I can't use the arrows for adjustment.
after returning to work in process, i am unable to move any selected object, or to move after selecting and copying and creating a new file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically I have several maps which have had black lines drawn on them - I would like to separate the different 'sections' of each map based on the boundaries. I am able to select the black line with the magic wand tool - however this isn't proving much use .
Here is an image to further demonstrate what I'm trying to achieve:
I find all the Layers are merged into one! I usually I make a dozen or so files before choosing the best one to go back and edit.
After starting up again today I realised that I needed to make a slight alteration on a previous poster and discovered that there was only a single layer contained within the PSD file with all the content merged together! I checked other files and they were all the same! This means I have at least 20 PSD files that are practically useless!
I cannot understand why Layers was not selected as default in the save as window!! I certainly never turned it off in the save as window and no one else uses my computer... Unless it had something to do with the fact that when I was saving PDF files of the same documents and unclicked the "preserve Photoshop illustrating capabilities" in the second window that pops up so the PDF would not be as big... but even so I did not click it in the save as window... and therefore assumed it would only apply to PDF files! If this is the reason then I'm bloody annoyed that they would implement such a stupid feature! What other use is there for PSDs then to preserve the layers!?
I have never had this problem before on other computers or copies of Photoshop... Unless this has something specifically to do with CS3?
I dont suppose there is any way to retrieve my lost layers so I can edit the files? Or do I just have to start all over again?
My CorelDRAW has just developed a glitch - I can select objects but not move them (other than by using the nudge button) and if I click twice on the object it doesn't change the nodes to allow me to rotate - weird and seriously difficult to do any work in the programme. I've tried turning the computer off and on again and have tried the default setting.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn previous versions of Max, if you locked an object and were in the Move command, the move icon would show up no matter where you were in the viewport. Now, even if the object is locked, it will only show up while hovering over the object. My question is, was this intentional, or is there a way to turn it on and off? For my workflow this is a highly annoying change. I work without gizmos on. I only use axis constraints and I lock everything before I move it. I can still move things from anywhere in the viewport if the selected object is locked. The problem is that I can never tell that things are locked because the way of knowing (move icon always on) is now gone. I can always look down at the lock icon, but getting used to this is proving difficult.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a script that batch rename/renumber a group of selected layers. So far I've been able to find a script that renames every single layer in a Photoshop document (overkill). Or there's the CS6 Tab rename trick (too slow).
I routintely export PSDs from Illustrator for use in After Effects. But in Photoshop, I'll get a couple hundred layers named <path> or <path> + <path> or <group>. Renaming by hand is out of the question. But I don't want to rename every layer the same.
On a new transparent layer, I have drawn a straight line with the pencil tool. I select the Box Selection tool to select the whole line that I just drawn. I switch to the Move tool and made sure to move just the selection.
At this point, I would think that I would be able to move the line but only the box that is shown by the Box Selection tool moves. The line doesn't move at all. However, when I tell the Move tool to move the selected layer, the whole canvas moves, including the line. Why can't I just select just the line and move it?
I'm making an animated GIF, and what I want to do is overlay each layer of the animation with a layer of text. I know the hard and long way by creating a copy of the text layer and merging it with each and every layer of the animation, but is any faster way of doing this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy rotate tool in maya seems to be "locked" i can't freely rotate whenever i left click hold the center and it only rotates where my viewport is looking at so if im at the X axis I can't rotate the Z axis. Tried setting my preferences to default and nothing. I've also set my rotate tool to default.
Whenever I move my camera say to the Z axis the Z handle gets selected and same when I move the camera to the X axis.
I have tried using the hot grips selection by holding shift, but some of the grips are overlapping and I can only select the top most grip. It is also a slow process because I must click each individual grip that I want to move as a whole. Is there a way of selecting multiple grips at once including grips that are beneath others?

Something like this video below.
how to change the colour of the selected layer in the layers pallete? It's quite annoying the way it is (Dull grey/blue) and sometimes hard to see what layer's selected?
I prefer the brighter blue on my other computer!
I frequently encounter this problem across numerous versions of PS (CS4 - CS6)I like to CTRL+click on my layers to select them for convenience. If in the layers panel, I have a Layer Mask selected (that is, the white border highlight is around the alpha mask thumnail) and the mask is unlinked from the layer itself (there is not a link icon bewteen the layer thumb and alpha mask thumb), the CTRL+click feature seems to be disabled.
I have to relink the mask to the layer in order to restore the functionality. This occurs regardless of the order of any of the layers in question.Is this correct?
I have this file with multiple layers of text.
I want to print the file with these layers selected individually, so that if I have two text layers "Cow" and "Dog", I get two similar images with different text.
How would i automate this? It would take a lot of work to select each layer and save the files individually.
According to 'About Lightroom;
this is what I'm running:
<Lightroom 3.6, Camera Raw 6.6>
I used to 'merge to panorama', or 'open as layers' in Photoshop regularly, but today it no longer works. When I try, the message comes up: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.6 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu."
When I go to Photoshop Help Menu, 'no available updates at this time' is the message that comes up. I manually downloaded the Camera Raw 6.6, but to no avail.
When attempting to edit using PS, the program DOES open, but nothing happens... the files do not appear. They DO open individually when Edit in Photoshop CS4 is selected, but I prefer the 'open in layers' option, and often use the 'merge to panorama'...
I need a program to move some selected text to a line something like as extend command but for text objects!
suppose that there is a horizental line (y=constant) or vertical line (x=constant) and some selected text(or other objects), I want a lisp program that move these selected text (or objects) by their "insertion point" to this line.
in other word, if the selected base line is horizental (y=constant) then property of "Y" of all selected text should change to line's "Y"; and if selected base line is vertical (x=constant) then value of "X" of all selected text should match to line's "X" value.
for example, for base vertical line (x=constant) and 3 selected text(or can be any object) result is:
text1. | text1.|
text2. | ===> text2.|
text3. | text3.|
| .text1 |.text1
| .text2 ===> |.text2
| .text3 |.text3

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just been doing some work for a company and they were using AutoCAD 2009.
One of my tasks involved stretching and moving items from imported drawings over Architectural layouts. Lines drawn on the x and y axis were fine. However, if I zoomed in on angled lines they moved out of view making them difficult to select or position to a snap point. If I selected those lines then they remained in place when I zoomed in.
When I approached the company manager he replied by saying that he would zoom in then zoom out to the point where the lines were correct and in place. I thought that he was either joking or was testing me! It meant I could not do any detailed work - which contradicts the use of Auto CAD.
The question has to consider the fact that the lines were angled and that they remained static when selected. When zooming in and selecting them they were off and running out of the screen view. also note that my colleague at the next desk opened up the file on V2008 and he could zoom in okay. I was also using a wide screen if this matters.
When I select a layer, it is highlighted in grey (in the layers palette) and I am unable to edit it. My current process for making a layer editable is as follows: Select layer (highlighted in grey)Double click layer (opens "Layer Styles" dialogue box)Close "Layer Styles" dialogue boxLayer is now highlighted in blue and can be edited. I am currently running Photoshop CS5.1 on a windows machine which is using Windows 7.

people want to move multiple layers together. I know how to do that. I want to move a selection in two (or more) layers together. I'd also love to know how to use the free transform tool on a selection box in multiple layers.
