Illustrator :: Making PDF Of Selected Layers?
Nov 15, 2013Is there a way to make PDFs of layers which are turned on in Illustrator, from Illustrator itself?
If there is, I'm not seeing it.

Illustrator Scripting :: Turn Selected Sublayers Into Top Level Layers
Jun 5, 2008I wanted to ask if by chance any of the scripting gurus here happen to have written an AI script that will take a number of selected sublayers/sub-sublayers and move them so they become top-level layers?
I am really needing this very badly, given that After Effects can only handle AI layers as separate entities. So I find myself moving tens, even hundreds of nested sublayers to the top level all the time.
Is it possible this script exists already?

I would like to make it so it targets selected layers only.
I have found this script which loops through selected layers only, but I am not sure how to add the find and replace layer name functioality.
Illustrator :: CS6 Layers Panel Won't Allow Moving Objects By Dragging Selected-art Indicator Dot
May 22, 2012Having trouble moving objects between layers by simply dragging the right-hand dot to a new layer? CS6 won't let me drag the dot on any kind of selected art from any kind of file I've tried..
Click the name of the desired layer in the Layers panel. Then choose Object > Arrange > Send To Current Layer. Drag the selected-art indicator , located at the right of the layer in the Layers panel, to the layer you want. But method #2 doesn't work at all for me. In fact, the cursor doesn't even change when I mouse over the selected-art indicator dot.

Feb 9, 2009I find all the Layers are merged into one! I usually I make a dozen or so files before choosing the best one to go back and edit.
After starting up again today I realised that I needed to make a slight alteration on a previous poster and discovered that there was only a single layer contained within the PSD file with all the content merged together! I checked other files and they were all the same! This means I have at least 20 PSD files that are practically useless!
I cannot understand why Layers was not selected as default in the save as window!! I certainly never turned it off in the save as window and no one else uses my computer... Unless it had something to do with the fact that when I was saving PDF files of the same documents and unclicked the "preserve Photoshop illustrating capabilities" in the second window that pops up so the PDF would not be as big... but even so I did not click it in the save as window... and therefore assumed it would only apply to PDF files! If this is the reason then I'm bloody annoyed that they would implement such a stupid feature! What other use is there for PSDs then to preserve the layers!?
I have never had this problem before on other computers or copies of Photoshop... Unless this has something specifically to do with CS3?
I dont suppose there is any way to retrieve my lost layers so I can edit the files? Or do I just have to start all over again?
Photoshop :: Batch Rename Selected Layers?
Oct 9, 2012I'm trying to find a script that batch rename/renumber a group of selected layers. So far I've been able to find a script that renames every single layer in a Photoshop document (overkill). Or there's the CS6 Tab rename trick (too slow).
I routintely export PSDs from Illustrator for use in After Effects. But in Photoshop, I'll get a couple hundred layers named <path> or <path> + <path> or <group>. Renaming by hand is out of the question. But I don't want to rename every layer the same.

Jun 22, 2012Working with many layers 60+ is great, but most of the time we have many that are not selected i.e. visible.sometime 30+ those layers are most of the time not needed anymore or make it too crowd in the layer box, making layer selection and handling messy.
The best way is to remove them from the PDN, while keeping only the visible selected. But removing the "not selected" layers one by one is time consuming and again, accidents happen.
Three solutions .
A simple way to do it, is just add under "edit menu" or the "Layer menu" the following. "Create new PDN from selected visible layers"..
OR
add to the "Save As" the option to "Save selected visible layers only"
OR the long way, that has its good things in it too.
Add the option to INVERT the layers visibility selection, and then the option to remove/delete selected layers. (of coarse add an approval "are you sure box")
This option would even be great for other uses when we need to switch back and forth between many visible layers. for example when making animations etc.

Oct 2, 2013I frequently encounter this problem across numerous versions of PS (CS4 - CS6)I like to CTRL+click on my layers to select them for convenience. If in the layers panel, I have a Layer Mask selected (that is, the white border highlight is around the alpha mask thumnail) and the mask is unlinked from the layer itself (there is not a link icon bewteen the layer thumb and alpha mask thumb), the CTRL+click feature seems to be disabled.
I have to relink the mask to the layer in order to restore the functionality. This occurs regardless of the order of any of the layers in question.Is this correct?

I want to print the file with these layers selected individually, so that if I have two text layers "Cow" and "Dog", I get two similar images with different text.
How would i automate this? It would take a lot of work to select each layer and save the files individually.

I used to 'merge to panorama', or 'open as layers' in Photoshop regularly, but today it no longer works. When I try, the message comes up: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.6 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu."
When I go to Photoshop Help Menu, 'no available updates at this time' is the message that comes up. I manually downloaded the Camera Raw 6.6, but to no avail.
When attempting to edit using PS, the program DOES open, but nothing happens... the files do not appear. They DO open individually when Edit in Photoshop CS4 is selected, but I prefer the 'open in layers' option, and often use the 'merge to panorama'...

Layers sometimes stick to my curser and I can't unstick them until I go back to the palette and try to place them back where they orignally were. (I'll be really embarrassed if this is a new feature of CS6 that I've not figured out yet...)

Mar 22, 2011how to make a layer cut from another pic look more part of the background it's being placed on. I try to keep the pics relatively the same size then I'll usually use quick selection tool and get the item outlined how I want, then adjust the "refine edge" settings and drag onto the new background. I can get it to look pretty good messing with the Enhance features including defringe layer and maybe mess with the erase tool a little to feather a little more, but it still seems to look a bit as though it's sitting on top..

Mar 12, 2013I'm having some issues using either GIMP or PS to do this, so I figured I'd ask here. when it comes to image editing and tasks like this, but I'm currently being asked to do something for a job.
I need to take a single image which is a restaurant floor layout, then make it so all of the tables on the image are a different layer so that they can be moved around/customized accordingly.
As far as I can tell, this would involve creating layers, copying the tables from the main image, pasting them all on top as their own layer, and then sliding them around from there.
Is there any easy way to do this, or am I completely off-base?

Apr 15, 2013If I right click on on the shape tool and try to select any of the choices nothing happens, the menu keeps showing. I also can't move any layers anymore using the move tool.

I know the fact that I should import all the objects in single Layers, ie creating thousands of Layers for all the work, new layer for each object I import.
But is there any option for easy extraction of objects into single layers, one click option or much easier than going individually through each of them?
If not available, this type of option would work for CorelDRAW or any vector program, be really more effective and stay in touch with the requirements of the industry, especially when it comes, on creating vectors for web or apps.
Photoshop :: Making A Selection Around Multiple Layers
Jun 26, 2012Before I start looking for work on transforming PSD's into working websites, I would like to learn some of the functions and features of Photoshop Creative Suite 5.1.
I recently learned:
Ctrl + Win + Click on Desired Layer… To make a selection around the layer
Then I clicked on, "Refine Edge"… I was able to make a perfect selection around what I wanted using this feature. Very nice, by the way.
There were multiple layers, I merged the visible ones to make one layer. All of the stuff that makes up the banner, at the top of the page. My question is:
Can I make a selection around multiple layers, i.e. buttons, other pictures, etc.?
Side note question:
Does the document size have any effect on the overall size? Meaning: let's say that banner up top is 775 pixels across & maybe about 450 pixels tall… That's about the size of the image (the selected layer). The document size is laying on, is also 775 pixels across… But, 950 pixels tall. Will that document size have any effect on load time for a webpage?

I know the Alt/Ctrl/Shft/E shortcut, but this requires turning evertything off except the layers to be merged. In a large doc with some layers already turned off, turning everything on and off quickly is not always straight forward.
Is there a way of merging linked layers perhaps?
GIMP :: Making Rainbows - No Perfect Transition Between Layers
Apr 29, 2012I had a go at making a fake rainbow to use in a design the other day.
I did it by first creating a circle on a transparent layer and filling it red (diamater=4000px) . Then I copied and pasted it in as a new layer, bucket filled it to orange and reduced the size to 95%. I then repasted the red circle in and repeated the process a la ROYGBIV... Then I merged the layers down and hey presto- a rainbow.
Problem is that when you zoom in to it it doesn't appear to be a perfect transition between the layers. eg.
Also, It converts fine to jpeg on my computer but the site that I want to upload it to seems to make the edges of the rainbow a bit rough. Can't work out how to take a screenshot of that, it shows up when you look at it on full screen and I don't know how to use my snip tool without minimizing it.
