Rather than having to add a mask, why not also have a any new layer to automatically have a mask. Its a small step, but its something we do alot. All layers should have blank masks associated to them.
I have a photo of a model that I want to turn into a silhouette image. I have tried different things that I could think of, just can't see to get the effect that I am looking for.

Also, sometimes after selecting an area with the lasso and going to the move tool I can't pick up the piece. I get a message that says something like the area is empty.
Lastly, how do I create a stroke (i.e. outline) around a shape?

I've only just started having a problem with Photoshop. I'm running it on Mac OSX
My images will randomly take a chunk out of all layers, and the background will turn black where it was originally white. In one case all the layers on my canvas were distorted by a checker pattern of bright colours. All the images I am currently working on are in RGB mode which were hand drawn black and white images that were scanned.
I'm not sure what is going on but closing the image without saving and the closing photoshop and even restarting my computer doesn't seem to fix the problem.
I am trying to change the background of a photo. Not just change the color but change the color AND make it keep it's original shading, etc. I have some family photos we had made recently and they used a beige color draping for the background. The ones we had made before had a black draping. I was wondering how I could go about using some sort of additive coloring to transform the varying shades of beige to the same varying shades of black.
I have already used the masking tool to separate the background from the rest of the photo.
I am creating pages where I add elements and they are all resizing to clip to the page size. Very annoying. Can this be turned off?

How to turn a photo into a silhouette (I think that's what it's called). How to go about doing it?
There's two styles I'm trying to do. One is all one color, and the other is two colors kind of highlighting shady parts. Here are the two examples:

View 6 Replies View RelatedI started using PS CS4 demo and when I use the pen tool now to do selections, the stroke is very thin and light. You cannot see it as well in older PS versions. I have CS2 and the pen stroke is naturally easier to see. I cannot find anyway to darken the pen path stroke. Has anyone else noticed that the pen path is a lighter thinner gray path line than normal and how to make it easier to see?

In Photo-Paint X5, there is an option that allows you to turn off the pixel grid. It's located under Tools -> Options -> Document -> Grid -> Pixel Grid. If I uncheck the "Show pixel grid at 800% and higher zoom", then the pixel grid is turned off as expected. However, the next time I open another document, the pixel grid gets turned right back on. How do I make it so the pixel grid is always off? I've tried making it fully transparent, but the transparency resets each time I open a new image as well.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen saving a file with a solid, dark blue background as a JPG in PS CS4, it's producing a very faint border around it. On a web page, it needs to blend into a background that has the same color as that of the JPG; but it shows the faint borders. It also shows it when saving the file as PNG-24. How do you get rid of the border? What's causing this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy did my cursor turn into a zoom tool with a photo sized to Fit; and how can I make it go back to a normal arrow?
It is only happening when the photo is sized to Fit. At other sizes, the cursor is normal.
This just started after I finished using the Adjustment Brush. I had used Cntrl + to zoom a photo while using the Adjustment Brush.
I turned off the split toning, but my photos are still in sepia tones , I use Asus Vivobook S200, Windows 8.1. I think this is weird, because this problem does not happen in Lightroom video tutorials in Youtube

Images saved in Photoshop appear with distortion horizontally across - like a faint line. It happens in all formats I try such as JPEG, TIFF, PDF and PSD files.
It looks like broken pixel lines across and if it runs through a word or logo can break it up.
Whenever I print on my Mutoh from a file created in Photoshop, whether it's a PDF or TIFF, even though the background color is white it always prints in a very faint reddish color. How do I resolve this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rotate a small object in Paint. When I use the rotate toolbar to enter the angle I need, the object rotates just like I want. Then I hit the apply button and some pretty heavy handed anti-aliasing is applied and the object is essentially destroyed. I've been using Paint for quite a long time so I figured there must be an option to turn this off. I can't find one. I even added the anti-aliasing button to the rotate toolbar and turned it off but that doesn't make any difference.
Essentially, what I want when I rotate an object is the chunky, pixelated preview, not the final anti-aliased so much you can't tell what it even is anymore final product.
At this point, I'm going to have to resort to rotating the object and taking a screenshot of the preview and using that instead of the mess that the final result is.
