Photoshop :: CC Vanishing Cursor And Freezing Tools?

Jul 24, 2013

Any fixes coming for PSCC when the cursor vanishes (Don't say it's an Apple prob, because it only happens in PS and all 6 of my machines.) Also the tools freeze quite often and won't come back until I touch the desktop. Then PS plays catch up doing every click or hit I happen to hit in frustration.  Reinstalled it twice from a clean install. This is not a release ready product. BTW I have been using PS since 1994 to color comic books and with photography.

Photoshop :: How To Keep Tools Palette On Top Of Images

Feb 10, 2013

CS2 tools palette remains on top, when I now use CS4 my images cover the tools palette. Someone has been dabbling and lost a basic function when messing with the design of the interface. How does one keep the tools palette on top ?

I have mine down the left side of the screen and have done so since the very first ever Photoshop,.

As soon as I move my images around its gone, buried under them. The Layers etc palettes remain over the images, just the tools get buried.

Photoshop :: How Simple Tools Be Used In 32-bit Per-channel Images

Oct 13, 2013

I have just begin working with HDR imaging.  I am using it for what it was designed for.  The subject of the photograph is a creek, looking straight across the creek to the far bank.  The creek and the far bank are in bright sunlight.  I was in woods, and deep shadow, when I took the photograph, and so the foreground is very dark.  I converted the image to 32 bits/channel when merging it into HDR Pro, and used ACR to tone the final image.  All of that worked very well.

But when I wanted to make some final little adjustments to the image, I found that I couldn't!  I wanted to select a color range, but the Color Range option was grayed out.  I tried to use the magnetic lasso, but a message box popped up saying that I couldn't use that tool in 32-bit images.

I don't understand this limitation.  32 bits are supposed to be best for HDR images, but I can't use simple tools to edit the result? And then when I switched to 16 bits, it seems I have to merge the channels first, but that loses all of the smart filters and other history that I had when working in 32 bits!

Photoshop Elements :: 9 - How To Get The Cursor To Be Pointer Arrow

Feb 27, 2013

When I'm working in an image, and in other places, the cursor is a horizontal series of symbols rather than the pointer arrow I'm used to in PSE 6, 10 and 11.  The left side of the symbols is where the cursor is at.

I don't know what this is about, and don't care.  I want the pointer arrow I'm used to. I've looked in Preferences but see nothing that applies. How do I replace these hard to use and irritating horizontal symbols with the pointer arrow?

Photoshop Elements :: Cursor Change In Paint Bucket

Oct 1, 2012

I’m getting a strange cursor when I use the Paint Bucket tool. Instead of the bucket with the pointy bit to show where you’re aiming, I get three tiny paint buckets in a horizontal line, looking a bit like a fragmented ruler, so it is impossible to see where the point of the paint  bucket is. I have used CAPS LOCK to get the crosshairs but would refer the normal setting to be available too.

I have shut down the PC and restarted with PS9 as the only app open but I still get this funny cursor. Some of the cursors from other tools are also affected, esp. when I left-click.Have I changed a setting by accident?

Photoshop Elements :: Cursor Jumps To Random Positions In 8

Nov 19, 2011

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements Version 8.0, and I use Windows 7.

The problem: Whenever I use any tools involving the usage of the mouse on the canvas, everytime I click to use the tool, sometimes the cursor seems to 'jump' out of position and I end up unintentionally putting paint on the wrong part of the canvas. And before I release the click, I try to move the mouse around in random directions to no avail; the mouse doesn't respond until I release the mouse. In another similar case, sometimes for a split second the cursor seems to move on its own and it leaves behind a random trail of color. Example: Let's say I wrote down my name 'Andrew' on the canvas. I end up something similar to 'Anc e.", along with a black dot/calligraphic stroke or two unintentionally placed when writing down my name. I had to undo and click several times until I properly got the tool working. I'm working on a certain project in PS

I'm guessing a part of my bare hand is just barely in physical contact with the touchpad?

GIMP :: Images Breaking Up When Zooming And Artifacts When Using Tools?

Jan 21, 2013

i've got a strange problem: when zooming images in the GIMP (2.8.2, installed from archlinux [extra]), viewing them larger than the size they are being automatically zoomed to by default, they break up into unconnected, rectangular tiles.

moving (panning) them around with the mouse so that they partially leave the screen brings those parts back to be displayed properly. means i have to 'swivel' the image across all borders to get it to display properly.

in addition, applying scissors or path tool leaves artefacts on the image that can be removed the same way.

i've noticed this first with the development version of GIMP (2.9, compiled from GIT) and thought those were the new GIMP's growing pains -- but then i noticed the same happening with the stable version (2.8).

i've tried switching to an earlier version of xf86-video-ati and to an earlier kernel, but neither rectifies the problem. i also tried different options in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ 20-radeon.conf, whith the same result, i.e., none.

seems to have something to do with the image being refreshed, or not being refreshed, but which part of the system is at fault baffles me.

i'm using arch +testing, and here are my system's details:

System: Host: laptop Kernel: 3.7.3-1-ARCH x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: KDE 4.9.98 Distro: Arch Linux

Photoshop Elements :: Change Tool Cursor From Gun Sight To A Circle?

Apr 21, 2013

Usually the tool cursor is a circle the size the tool is set to, that is, it will be 60 pixels in diameter when the tool size is set to 60 pixels. Sometimes, the tool cursor changes to a gun sight-like icon. I have no idea what I'm doing to cause that, but I'd like to know in order to 1) stop doing it, and 2) maintain my sanity.

Photoshop Elements :: How To Move Cursor Digitally Not By Hand Motion

Nov 15, 2012

For cropping  part of an image, the cursor virtually snaps to positions according to what the programmer sees in the image.  Maybe not always, but that is the way it seems to me in many cases. Even when it does not do so, I find it impossible to move the cursor in very tiny increments by using my mouse. If I were to greatly enlarge the image on the screen to get finer control, then only part of the image would fit on the screen. I want a technique for controlling the selection with as much fine precision as is available when resizing, for example. We can specify hundredths of a millimeter when resizing; very finely precise indeed.

Is there a technique that I can use to have very fine and precise control of a crop, preferably by specifying a movement left-right-up-down using decimal fractions of a unit of distance?  The same question applies to using the selection tool.
