Photoshop Elements :: How To Retain The Original Date After Editing

May 17, 2013

I am using PSE 11 on a MacBook Pro, OS X (10.3). I have a lot of old pictures to edit, and they are in date order, which is how I want them.

However, when I edit a picture and save it, it moves it to the bottom, with today's date instead of the original date.  I have them set to save with the original as a version set.

Is there any way to retain the orignal dates, short of having to go in and reset the date on every picture after I save it?  I really want them to be in date order under their original dates.

BTW, I used earlier versions that were Windows-based, and this didn't happen.  When I saved them, the version sets stayed where they were.

Photoshop Elements :: Changing Original Date Of Image On Loading File To Editor?

May 28, 2013

There seem to be a problem with PSE10 and PSE11 on my computer when loading image files digitized on my film scanner. When loaded into the editor the image file immediate takes today’s date and time, and thus changes place on the timeline. However, sometimes the original image file date remains intact, for no obvious reason. I find this very frustrating.

My setup is an HP computer running Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit, with  i7 processor and 12GB memory. My film scanner is a Minolta Dimage Elite II working with a Windows XP-based computer, and data are transferred using memory stick.

It might be mentioned that I have made tests with a fixed set of image files on several computers running WindowsXP 32 bit, and several versions of PSE , including PSE10, without seeing this problem.

VideoStudio :: How To Retain Original Audio Of Edited Video

Feb 3, 2012

All I am trying to do is cut out small portions of a video just to get rid of the parts I don't want. However, when I use the multi-trim feature, it strips the original audio. I know it does this so you can create your own video and then overlay your own audio. However, all I want to do is just cut out a few portions of the video while retaining the original audio minus the parts I cut out (i.e. I don't want to have to overlay any audio for this project, I just want a simple way to cut a few parts out and be done).

Xara :: Joining 2 Lines Together And Retain Original Paths

Sep 6, 2011

I wanted to join 2 lines together (i.e. end up with a single line). I know that you can join lines by selecting both then using any of the shape / line / brush tools to drag one node from line A over to the a node on line B (you get a little + symbol next to the mouse cursor once the lines can join).

This is fine is you want the final line shape to differ from the original 2, but what if you want to join 2 lines and retain the original paths?

I can do it by postioning the target nodes on eash of the lines almost but not quite touching then using the above technique but its a bit awkward and I suspect this isn't the best way to go about it.

Photoshop Elements :: Including Date In Photo Caption And Being Able To Use Search Function For Date?

Photoshop Elements :: How To View Photos In Folder By Date Taken Rather Than By Date Imported

Oct 1, 2012

I've got some 500 photos in a folder which were imported on two different dates. I've created a new album on the right hand side under "Organize" and just the photos I want are in there. When I look at the folder on the right, all the pictures are there. But I can't call up just that folder; instead what I get on my screen is all 2500 photos in all my photo albums! Not what I want! What I want to get is all the photos in the order in which they were taken on the actual day as all 500 photos were taken at the same day. And I want to be able to view just the 500 photos in that folder by the time those pictures were taken. But, when I imported the second batch of photos it showed the date the file was created rather than the date the photo was taken so, basically, I've got one batch of photos showing the date they were taken (which I downloaded via a link a few days later), and one showing the date they were copied!

I recently set up Elements 12. Prior to this I used elements 11. In that catalog I have more photos that I don't want. So I decided to export the ones I want then import into PSE 12. As I do this many of the dates on the pictures change from the date taken to the current date. I have tried several different ways and can't stop the dates changing. I am putting them into mobile albums in PSE 12 if that makes a difference.

Lightroom :: Original Date Showing Is Wrong

Feb 1, 2014

I seem to have a big (and very weird) problem with dates in Lightroom. This relates - for the moment at least - to images dating back ten years, to when I had my first digital camera, a Nikon D100.

My belief is that the photo in question, one of many, was taken at around 2pm on the afternoon of 17th April 2004. Note the following from the image (EXIF data):

- The "date/time original" shows 17/04/2002 13:58:48
- The "date/time digitized" shows 17/04/2004 23:15:29
- The "date/time" shows 17/04/2004 23:24:17

The same image in Windows explorer (see second image) shows:
> Date 17/04/2004 23:15
> Date Taken 17/04/2004 23:15
> Date Imported 17/04/2004 22:24

Given the subject matter of the image, it is 100% certain this image was in fact taken in April 2004.

How can it be, then, that the "original" shows a date two years earlier? Why would Lightroom use this field (the ONLY one showing 2002 when every other shows 2004)? And why does Explorer correctly show the date but Lightroom does not - surely if anything one might expect the opposite?

This is urgently needed to be resolved as I am making a photo book for my wife's 40th and, as it turns out, I am putting all the photos in all the wrong years!

Lightroom :: Date Time Original Has Been Overwritten?

Jan 26, 2012

I've been using LR3 for a year or so and have an imported folder with over 7000 images in it all from 2009.  The set was originally created in Elements organsier 8.0 probably in 2009?

I have noticed that somewhere along the line 658 of them have had the original capture time overwritten to a single point in time 15th Nov.

They are all JPEG (before I had a RAW camera) and the changes are embedded in the jpg.

This folder has been processed with a few tags and some editing and filtered out rejects.

I would like to get the original time stamp back as the images do not flow with the other 2000+ from the same couple of months.

I do have copies of the originals with correct time stamps - but no tags etc as they were created at time of import.

I have tried copying one of the originals from backup and overwriting the 'wrong date' file using windows and then importing the metadata from file and this rectifies the date - but loses keywords etc

If I use LR to import from back up - firstly it does not see the backup as a duplicate - despite file name being the same - I guess date throws it??  so I end up with duplicates - one on each date ; correct + incorrect

My question is: Is there a way to re-read the original time metadata back into the file/catalog and retain the keyword tags (like a selective merge)?

It would be great to have a solution rather than manually having to identify the incorrect files and copying,  Or doing a mass read of original metadata and losing any keywords.

Photoshop :: After Editing Lost Original Photo In LR4?

Jul 28, 2013

I was under the impression that editing in PS from LR4 meant my original in LR4 was safe (ie: that after editing in PS, both the PS editied photo and the LR4 original would be side by side when LR4 was opened up)

However, my first foray into PS was earlier today, when I double-processed an image as instructed by Scott Kelby's book (the Adobe Photoshop CS6 book - page 52). The book covers PS (not Lightroom) and camera raw, but I thought that anything edited in PS and/or camera raw would leave my original untouched. Following Scott Kelby's instructions, I did some editing in LR4, then opened in PS as a smart object, then opened a 'New Smart Object via Copy' which I did further edits on, but this time in Camera Raw.

I now had 2 versions of the photo in PS. I then did a layer mask for the foreground object, and darkened the background of the sky etc behind it, so a sort of HDR with the 2 photos. I then followed his instructions to 'Flatten Image', and then to do a levels adjustment to brighten image.

Still following the instructions, to make the image more vibrant, I went to Mode, Lab Color, Apply Image. I chose the 'a' chanel, blending mode, then switched back to RGB Color

It didn't actually say to save file, but I just did a 'File Save in PS. The only photo in LR4 was now the PS edited one. I went to before/after comparison, but just had the finished photo with Lab Color adjustments as after photo, and before photo was the combined 2 photos after editing / layer masking, but no sign of my original.

I have been reading that you should 'copy' the original in PS, but have also read that this is not necessary if you have Lightroom, So I'm confused by this. This was the first time the book touched on photoshop, so I'm surprised there was no mentioned about saving the file. I now have about 4 photoshop books, and they all talk of camera raw workflow only

Photoshop :: Video Editing / Exporting In CS6 - Original Quality Gone In YouTube

Mar 12, 2013

I record video tutorials about Photoshop (so, screen captures) and edit/combine the clips inside Photoshop CS6 in Win 7/64; Photoshop's new video talent is nice. I record 852x480px at 15 fps with FastStone Capture  and save in WMV. I want to show the finished video tutorial on Youtube. There are several things baffling me when editing video in Photoshop CS6.

My original records  (according to MediaInfo):
Software: FastStone Capture
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
[code]....

The result looks very nice when i play it locally in VLC. It looks like the original WMV. But: When i upload the Photoshop-version to YouTube, the video looks very badly "upsampled" and blurred. It looks much worse than the uploaded WMV original. If you like, you can compare the two videos from the same source online:

Uploaded WMV clip, looking good (set player to 480 p): URL....

Rendered in Photoshop CS6, looking bad (set player to 480 p): URL.....I do like the resolution of 852x480 and would like to keep it. If not possible, i have to record tutorials in 1280x720, even though icons and menus look too small. So far i have not tested it.

I searched my folder C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobedynamiclinkmediaserver1.0. There is a lot in it which i don't understand, but some file names include "MPEG", "AVI", "Adobe QT Server" etc. I think there is no Quicktime installed on my machine; i try to avoid it as it does many different things to the system and is obnoxious.

My questions:

- When aiming for a YouTube cast, could i stay with 852x480 (at 15 fps), or doesn't it make sense? (I like that size.) If 852x480 is not ok, what is the lowest resolution for getting good looking presentations on Youtube?

- Why does the Adobe Media Encoder in my Photoshop CS6 only offer the formats H.264 and DPX? Can i get more? (Free, pay.)

- Do i need to install Quicktime? How could i do this with less intrusive QT behaviour?

- Should i record more fps in FastStone Capture? (I don't find more fps necessary when looking at the original and when looking at the uploaded *original*.)

Lightroom :: Editing Photo In External Application - Only Original Raw File Seen

Nov 27, 2011

After editing a photo in an external application, only the original raw file can be seen. The edited photo is hidden, even when searched for by name.

I have been reduced to the following workaround, which has the drawback of deleting all the original raw (.cr2) edits: Edit the photo; edit in external application; save and close. Back in lightroom, delete the raw file (from lightroom only); then close lightroom, reopen it and then at last I can see my edited file. Then I have to re-import the raw file and of course the edits have disappeared. But at least the final result can be seen.

The photos are supposed to be in a stack, but there appears to be a bug in this function because you can only ever see the raw file.

Photoshop Elements :: Sort By Date Created?

Dec 31, 2012

I recently upgraded to PSE 11 from PSE 9.  I actually did this by buying a new comptuer and putting PSE 11 on the new computer.  I used the Windows File and settings transfer wizard to move all my files to the new comptuer.  So inside MyPictures folders, they are in the same location as in the old comptuer.  But when I soft by date order, it sorts by the date of the file (which seems to be random based on when windows copied the file to the new comptuer) instead of the created date.

Furthermore, on the old comptuer, in PSE9, i set the date and time of each picture so it would be right.  This seemed to set the created date (which was missing for a lot of my scans or was the date of the scan) and made the PSE9 organizer sort them correctly.  Seriously, are people expected to do that months of work again every time they move to a new computer?  or am I suppose to have tell my wife, "deal with seeing your kid's pictures in random order -- Adobe thinks that is best."

Is there a way to set all the timestamps in windows to the created date of the picture in one swoop?
