Photoshop :: Camera Raw Settings For Monochrome?

Dec 12, 2006

I'm shooting monochrome images with a Canon Digital Rebel XTI but when I load the images in Bridge or Photoshop CS they are showing up in color rather than black and white. How do I set Camera Raw to show the files properly in B&W?

Illustrator :: Color Mode And Settings For Grayscale To Monochrome Laser Printer

Mar 27, 2013

Is there a best setting for the mode, color settings, and color profiles when printing a grayscale vector illustration to a monochrome laser printer? I am making vector maps, and right now they are mostly black line and black text with only the K values in CMYK. There are some gray tones—for example water areas are 10% K, with no C, M or Y. Would it make any difference if I used RGB mode values at 100% (255,255,255), or a rich black in CMYK (such as 40C, 30M, 30Y, 100K)? I printed in K only at 1200dpi to a Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 profile, and it doesn't look too bad. There aren't many of the lines that are really jagged. I just wondered if there are better settings.

I'm using Mac OS 10.6, Illustrator CS6, and a Brother HL-5470DW monochrome laser printer.

Photoshop :: Why Does Camera Raw Goes Back To CS5 Settings

Aug 26, 2012

I just installed CS6. When I open my photos from Bridge in Camera Raw, the old window from CS5 opens (the one with Fill Light and Recovery), not the new one with Highlights/Shadows.

I can get it to change to the new version by clicking on a fly out menu that says Reset Camera Raw Defaults but I have to do that for each photo. How can I get the new version to open all the time?

Lightroom :: Why Do JPEG Files With Develop Settings Open In Photoshop Camera Raw

Dec 10, 2012

Why does an image that has been altered by Lightroom cause the RAW Converter to open when trying to view it in Photoshop. Perhaps this might work; if I import, enhance and convert a RAW image in Lightroom to a jepg image it will open in Photoshop without issue. However if I then alter the jpeg image in Lightroom, update the Metadata and try to view it in Photoshop it cause the Photoshop's RAW Converter to open. Is the alter image's information held in a side car file (xmp) that can'r be read by Photoshop? If so would I need to re-export, (convert), the image again in Lightroom to embedd the changes thus making sure it could be read by all the various programs that are available to view images. As is I send photographs to newspapers and print houses it is important for me to know if they would be receiving fully adjusted images or only the adjustments that were made prior to converting from RAW to jpeg. Just in case...I am new to Lightroom.

Lightroom :: Applying Camera Settings / Adjustments To RAW Images

Jan 12, 2012

I have recently purchased a new camera (Canon 600D) and am shooting in RAW+jpg.

I make many on-camera adjustments (exposure, creative effects etc) which apply to the JPG fine.  Is there a way to apply these to the RAW image also (within LR) without manually changing all the settings using the 'develop' module?  For example, can I right-click on a RAW image and select 'Apply camera settings' or something along those lines?

On a side note, is there a way to ask lightroom to simply use the JPG version rather than the RAW version (on an individual photo basis)?  Lightroom as I currently have it set up uses teh JPG only as a preview.

Not sure if it is relevent but I am using the latest Lightroom 3.x on Vista.

Lightroom :: Camera Specific Custom Default Settings?

May 24, 2012

I have both a Sony NEX 5 and a Sony NEX 7.  I want to establish custom default settings specific to each camera and for each ISO setting I use in Lr.  I know Lr has the capability to make default settings for specific camera bodies according to serial number.  Sony did not include body serial numbers in the Exif files for the NEX camera line.  Since I only have 1 each NEX 5 and 7, will my copy of Lr  create separate custom default setting for my specific cameras so long as I don't add additional NEX 5/7 cameras to my Lr setup?

Lightroom :: Matching Develop Settings To In-Camera Picture Styles

For certain shoots it would suit me to have my pictures import and look like the embedded jpegs which are created using Canon's standard picture styes. Is there an easy way to create LR develop settings to match the popular Canon styles such as Standard, Portrait and Landscape so that I get approx the same amount of sharpness, contrast, colour balance. Perhaps someone has already done that and they've shared the Lightroom Presets.

Photoshop :: Monochrome Curve Layer / Flipping Scale Ends

Feb 13, 2013

On PS CS6 Extended 64 & 32 bit I noticed the gray scale ends of the curve in monochrome images is, to my mind, flipped. I understand some of the historic reasons for this, but I though I had found a preference somewhere or flipped the ends in previous versions. It has been a while. My most current version previously was CS2.

I'm also looking for, and will post separately, something akin to the Photo bars add on from Extensis. I still can't believe how backward the Adobe development team appear to be in terms of interface usability design. There are many multi-click patterns I use repeatedly and something like Photobars, even an add-on would be acceptable.

Paint.NET :: Save As Monochrome 1 Bit BMP

May 27, 2013

I need to save images as monochrome 1 bit bmp for technical reasons (not only for optical). At this time I'm digitizing several hundreds of old documents (e.g. from university), which I need to lay away, and save them as PDF. The latter become relatively large and because of this I'd like to save them as 1 bit monochrome bmp before saving them as PDF. To edit every single scanned image in paint.net first, saving them as 8 bit bmp and saving them again as 1 bit bmp in another application (e.g. paint) is quite time-consuming. It would be great if future versions (or a plugin - is there any?) could save bmp's as monochrome 1 bit bmp-files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Trying To Plot In Monochrome

Dec 1, 2010

I just moved from ACAD 2008 to 2010. I for the life of me cannot figure out how to plot my drawings to a monochrome (black and white) drawing/PDF. Every plot comes out as by layer colored plots.

I have tried using Page Setup Manager and created a (or what I thought was a) monochrome .stb file. However, even with the mono.stb file selected the plots still plot in color. Is it possible to configure a .stb file to plot in only black?

AutoCad 2D :: Plotting In Monochrome Except For 1 Layer

Nov 15, 2012

We need to plot revised drawings with clouds for a local building department that demands the clouds be in color with everything else in the standard B/W !!!

Our office pen settings are set in a way that a particular line color has a specific lineweight, i.e., on the screen all the lineweights appear the same, but when plotted the lineweights vary.

My first thought was to to simply turn all the layers to one color (white for example) and the clouded layer to be red, create a PDF in color thus having black lines and red clouds. This works, however, all the lineweights are now the same which makes for an unappealing drawing.

Is there a way to isolate the clouds as one color (red) and monochrome the other layers yet still maintaining their pre-determined lineweights?

Lightroom :: Importing Monochrome Bitmaps?

Mar 18, 2013

My earliest digital images are monochrome bitmap TIFFs, and LightRoom 4 regards them as an unsupported format, even though they are not excluded in this list of supported file formats [Edit: 1-bit images are not mentioned, so I suppose that is an exclusion]. LR4 won't import them.

I understand that I won't be able to apply Develop functions unless I convert them to, say 8-bit grayscale, but I'd like them in the catalog in their original form, so I can find them, use them and apply metadata such as tags and captions.

What is the best way to manage monochrome bitmap TIFFs in LightRoom?

GIMP :: Changing Semi-Monochrome Color

Jul 30, 2013

I am downloading semi-monochromatic picture files that I will be using for multiple applications. The image is originally semi-monochromatic with red and white being the only colors used. A complex image is created by adding more or less white to the red color. The image for each application I have in mind needs to be distinguished by the primary color of the image. I need to change this color first to green, then to orange, and so on. Is there a global command to change this one color?

I use the term semi-monochromatic because the pictures aren't actually black and white.
