Lightroom :: Camera Specific Custom Default Settings?
May 24, 2012
I have both a Sony NEX 5 and a Sony NEX 7. I want to establish custom default settings specific to each camera and for each ISO setting I use in Lr. I know Lr has the capability to make default settings for specific camera bodies according to serial number. Sony did not include body serial numbers in the Exif files for the NEX camera line. Since I only have 1 each NEX 5 and 7, will my copy of Lr create separate custom default setting for my specific cameras so long as I don't add additional NEX 5/7 cameras to my Lr setup?

I have created default settings by serial number for my Canon Mark III 1ds which include enabled lens profile corrections. I then created a user preset with these default corrections. Next I imported a folder of RAW images shot with this same Canon camera with the user profile checked as part of the import. When I switch to the Develop module and check the Lens Corrections panel, I see that although it is checked for each file, the actual make, model and profile are not populated.
Is this a bug or am I overlooking something on import? I understand that in LR 4, you can apply specific lens and camera calibration profiles to camera serial numbers (noise reduction etc too).

I’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow. I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.
Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings? Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to. My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop. I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.

I'm an amateur moving up to LR 3 and have been trying to learn this program by reading the LR3 book by Scott Kelby. He shows that the Camera Calibration feature has some settings for specific cameras yet the drop down menu has none listed. I've upgraded to 3.6 and the images were copied from raw to DNG.

After installation of LR 4.3, my custom camera profiles are no longer recognized. They are still in the correct folder along with the other camera profiles installed by LR but these custom profiles are not shown in the drop down list in the Camera Calibration panel.

I have recently purchased a new camera (Canon 600D) and am shooting in RAW+jpg.
I make many on-camera adjustments (exposure, creative effects etc) which apply to the JPG fine. Is there a way to apply these to the RAW image also (within LR) without manually changing all the settings using the 'develop' module? For example, can I right-click on a RAW image and select 'Apply camera settings' or something along those lines?
On a side note, is there a way to ask lightroom to simply use the JPG version rather than the RAW version (on an individual photo basis)? Lightroom as I currently have it set up uses teh JPG only as a preview.
Not sure if it is relevent but I am using the latest Lightroom 3.x on Vista.

I have a Canon Rebel T4i, Lightroom 4.2 running on Mac OS 10.8.1. When I connect the camera to the computre and select Tethered Capture, I see the camera name in the tethered capture window, but the values for the settings are "--". When I mouse over the shutter button, the curson becomes a gloved hand with pointed finger and if I click on the shutter button it changes shade, but does not fire. When I look in the view finder, "Busy" flashes and I can't use the camera shutter.

I'm using both Lightroom 3.5 and Photoshop CS5 on a 64-bit Windowx XP-Pro system with 8GB of RAM and plenty of disk space.
I use an X-rite color checker to generate custom camera profiles whenever I do portraits or other color critical photo sessions. The camera profile is generally placed in the "Documents and Settings...{user...}Application DataAdobeCameraRawCameraProfiles " folder.
When I try to apply a profile in either lightroom or ACR the newely created profile is not visible in the camera profile drop-down box. When I check to see if the profile exists in the appropriate folder, it does.
I've used color profiles before and have always been able to create and select a profile. Now I'm no longer able to do this. I would prefer to not re-install all my Adobe software since then I'd have to reinstall all the updates and plug-ins.
How can I get lightroom and ACR to see these profiles and use them?

For certain shoots it would suit me to have my pictures import and look like the embedded jpegs which are created using Canon's standard picture styes. Is there an easy way to create LR develop settings to match the popular Canon styles such as Standard, Portrait and Landscape so that I get approx the same amount of sharpness, contrast, colour balance. Perhaps someone has already done that and they've shared the Lightroom Presets.

I want to use my Default Settings on another computer, so I need to find them and then copy them to the correct folder in the second computer.
Second question. If I also happen to apply a Preset during Import that has some of the same Develops as my Default Settings, like Lens Corrections or Sharpening, what will happen? Will the effects be cumlative/additive/doubled or will LR only apply the effect once?

I would like to set a camera default for a D3 and D7100 -- Settings > Set Default Settings... -- to include a Camera Calibration Profile AND the Lens Correction Profile setting to Enable Profile Corrections and have LR identify which lens is in use for each file.
The Camera Calibration Profile is no problem since it's the same for each respective body, no matter which lens I use.
However, since I use different lenses, I would like the Lens Correction Profle to find the correct lens for each file. In the Lens Corrections > Profile > Setup dropdown, I am not sure whether to use Default or Auto. (Note: the default is Custom, but when I tried that, the D3 lenses were not correctly identified whereas the D7100 lenses were.) I am not sure what the difference is between the Default and Auto settings. I want to be sure to use whichever setting will apply the correct profile, and have this be part of my camera default so that I don't have to visit the Lens Corrections panel over and over again. Note: I only shoot RAW files.

I've been using custom profiles that I created using a ColourChecker Passport for sometime now. I just updated LR and ACR to the latest versions, and I've noticed that they are no longer selectable under the Camera Calibration tab - I just get the standard list of profiles for my camera (Nikon D7000).
I checked in the the relevant folder for LR and they weren't there, but they are in the ACR folder. I copied them across to the LR folder as well, but this has had no effect. In both cases, they're in the root-level folder for all profiles, so in LR's case, they're in C:Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3/resources /CameraProfiles. This is where both the CCP and Adobe DNG Profile Editor have previoulsy placed them by default - I've never needed to place them in the actual camera model folder itself. Both applications have always found them there without issue.

Why does an image that has been altered by Lightroom cause the RAW Converter to open when trying to view it in Photoshop. Perhaps this might work; if I import, enhance and convert a RAW image in Lightroom to a jepg image it will open in Photoshop without issue. However if I then alter the jpeg image in Lightroom, update the Metadata and try to view it in Photoshop it cause the Photoshop's RAW Converter to open. Is the alter image's information held in a side car file (xmp) that can'r be read by Photoshop? If so would I need to re-export, (convert), the image again in Lightroom to embedd the changes thus making sure it could be read by all the various programs that are available to view images. As is I send photographs to newspapers and print houses it is important for me to know if they would be receiving fully adjusted images or only the adjustments that were made prior to converting from RAW to jpeg. Just in case...I am new to Lightroom.

I'm using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS5. The problem is that if I apply a custom camera color profile created by X-Rite Passport Color Checker, I can no longer use an external editor, such as Photoshop, to edit my photos. Before I apply the custom profile, the external editor function works just fine. If I apply a custom profile in the Camera Calibration panel, then the ability to use external editors no longer works. There is no error message, but nothing happens when I try to edit in an external editor. If I go back and turn off the custom profile and go back to Adobe Standard, then the external editor function works again. What is going on? Is there a way to make it possible to apply a custom profile in Camera Calibration and still be able to use the external editors?

I installed Xrite ColorChecker Passport software and loaded a couple of custom profiles in the develop module under camera calibration. There was a glitch in the software and it did not allow me to name those profiles. Once I uninstalled that version and loaded the newer version the naming process works fine. I would like to be able to delete the unname profile out of Lightroom but I am not seeing how that can be done.

I removed the original file from the Preferences folder and restarted LR. When I have done this in the past LR does not give me a catalog listing and when LR opens, the panels are all in default mode. This time I see my usual catalog list, and all of the panels are as I set them. I checked the Preferences folder, and a new plist file has been created. What am I missing. I am having problems with the program, and wanted to reset the preferences in case the file was corrupted.

I have created custom profiles using Color Checker Passport for sunny, cloudy, flash, tungsten etc but would really like to create one for most shoots. I thought it would be a good idea to name it say "Temp" and overwrite each time so that I dont end up knee deep in camera profiles. But I am guessing if I do this will the latest saved version of "Temp" change the camera profile of all other previously saved versions of "Temp" from other shoots? It would be good if the saved version of "Temp" resided within the folder of that particular shoot only.

When inserting a content center part for which we have to choose a material, we would like to have a custom material as a default (material with name: "No material selected"). So when selecting no material for this part (for example when the user forgets to select a specific material), the default material (in this case material "No material selected") will be active. In this way, we can see in one view across the BOM which parts have no material assigned yet.
How can this be achieved in the content center (editor)?
