I just tarted using Photoshop CCÂ - even without any files open - it was still using 4.5GB of memory! isnt this a "bit" excessive?

i am using Windows 7 Ultimate, with 8GB of RAM.
I accidentally deleted some photos from a memory card. I recovered them using software called "Recover My Files". This software recovered the files but now I can't open them in CS3. I took these with an old Canon Rebel DSLR and they should not need converting, they opened fine before I deleted them.

I just upgraded from CS5 to CS6 64 bit using Windows 7 64bit.I use Windows Explorer to open my files, but when I click on a JPG file it now uses another program to open the JPG, not CS6. When I go to set CS6 as the default program, CS6 is not in the list. When I manually set it as the default program, it does not work (it will not open the JPG and doesn't change the default program to CS6).

I can set CS6 to open TIF, PSD and other image file types by default. It appears this only doesn't work with JPG files.

I also can go to CS6 and open a JPG directly, but I cannot open them through Windows Explorer (the old file manager)..I do have the current updates on both Windows 7 and CS6.I do not care to use Bridge as my file manager, I like Explorer.
Photoshop CC on Windows 8 is using almost 4GB with no files open ? Is there a fix for this apparent memory leak?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using corel x3 a long time but never, never had this kind of problem. When i work in corel enviorenment after i have finished my work i go to save my work. But then is the problem It Saves the file with Large Memory on it. let's say if the file normally would be 200 K, now it saves with 3 MB. And if i import some other files in my work then the saved file will be even bigger. If i Delete the files that were imported The Saved File will be Again the same SIZE ! Even if a take one part of the file, let's say if i import only one small text and put it in another file and save it like that, the saved file will be 2 MB. I had a lots of problems, i had saved files on this way with 23-24 MB and when i open them it takes like forever. When you look that file in corel it has nohing in it, absolutely nothing that should be 24 MB. But all of my important work is in that files how to make all things back to normal again,

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have CS6 running on Win8 pro and as of today I can’t get photoshop to open or create new files. It just essentially ignores me - no crash, and the menus are still available. It’s been working past few weeks though. I have tried rebooting at least 5 times and deleted my settings file (CTRL+SHIFT+ALT when starting). Nothing works. The cloud app says it is up to date.

I am running a GeForce GTX 560M and was running the latest released driver. I've tried installing their latest beta driver and got same results. Is there a log file somewhere I can check?
I have CS5 for my Mac (running on OSX 10.7.5) and I cannot get any windows to open. If I open the program, go to File > New and try to create something when I hit OK there is no new blank window popping up. Over on the right hand side there is a layer for background but no window. If I try to drag a file into Photoshop, it will show the layers on the dashboard along the side but the file doesn't actually pop up.

But it does not open my .psd files, only if I run Photoshop CS6 and go File > Open > "and then open the file", it will open, but If I go to the file it self it does not recognize CS6 as the default program or to open it. It tells me it cannot find a program to open the .psd file with. I have tried several times to set the Default Program but it is not even there and if I click on "browse" to find Photoshop and click "open" it does not open or show Photoshop in the Default Programs.

Now I accidently clicked on coreldraw and I don't want my .psd files opening with coreldraw! because I hardly use coreldraw, I only needed it for my studies.When I had CS5 it worked and opened fine, with CS6 the .psd files just don't find Photoshop.how can I fix this so that my .psd files get recognized?

I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.

I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy XP machine is maxed out with 2 gig of chip memory (AMD dual core). Please, no laughing. It does run Photoshop CS 4 at an acceptable speed with 500 meg. PSD pictures. Apparently, there is a way to set up the system drive to dual boot to Windows 7 or XP with a "virtual hard drive" set up. How much less memory does Windows 7 use as compared with XP Home? With the early order half price for 7 Professional, it might be a way to give Photoshop some more memory (5%, 10%, 15%,?%) without having to get a new mother board and new memory chips at a far lower price. I am using Photoshop in a non-work environment. My full time job, hasn't given me a pay raise, in the last 8 years, that matched the increase in health insurance cost, I am willing to accept less than optimal performance boost at an affordable price. And, as I'm paying off a month old Epson 3800, every little bit of savings helps. I am aware that I might/will have to reinstall Photoshop under this set-up.
View 10 Replies View Relatedif you have a large image open (15MB jpg from a digital camera) every time your do something to the image the memory usage for PS jumps by a couple of 100MB. Before long PS it using its max allocated memory (in this case 1GB) and from then on everything you do in photoshop crawls. Worse still, if you close the image (but leave PS open) the memory usage stays where it was and PS still crawls. The only "fix" is to restart PS.I've tried testing this on multiple machines and multiple images but the same thing keeps happening. Is there anyway to get PS to release the memory it's no longer using other than restarting it? Even if I clear the undo history it doesn't release it. This happens even if I just rotate the image a few times.

Opening and closing Draw was giving me several instances running in memory. I had to kill them all using Task manger. It doesn't always happen so I haven't been able to pin down a reason. I'm using version 15.02.661.
I have Photoshop CC and when I open a file I have a notice about the memory and a URL to go [URL]... in order to solve the problem but when I go to that page I am told that it isn't available. What can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to open a 1.7 mb file in photoshop 6. I had it opened about 3 weeks ago but made no changes. I downloaded a new copy of the file thinking my version was corrupted but no luck. I am running windows xp, 2.8 ghz celeron and just installed an additional 2gb of ram.
 Naturally, photoshop is the only program i had running after a restart aside from the minimal startup windows nonsense. Short of buying a mac or the latest version of photoshop, what can I do? Many thanks for any input. On a side note, I am able to open a 4.8 mb companion file to the one in question. Both are .psd files.

I'm having a problem with my recently installed copy of PS CS6 (with the latest update).
My system: PC with Intel Core i3-540 (not over-clocked: 3.06GHz) and 4GB RAM running Windows XP SP3. The graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD5450.

The problem: When I first launch Bridge and CS6, everything is working fine. But after 10 minutes or so, ACR starts acting up. Specifically, edits become increasingly sluggish and ultimately the image won't transfer into PS. Instead, I receive the message: "Could not complete the Open As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)".

I do not have any other programs open (aside from Bridge) when this happens.I would have thought that 4GB of RAM would be a sufficient amount of memory.

I am not using the boot drive as the PS scratch drive.

Two more bits of information: (1) I have the Memory Usage slider set to 80%; (2) Cache value is 1,024.
Photoshop CS6 runs away with memory after being used and then going idle. If I open up PS and leave it, it will be ok but as soon as I open any file it will go up in memory usage (which is normal) but when I close all files and hide PS the memory will stay high never goes back down. When I close PS and re-open (no files open) again it idles at 300Mb memory but when I open a file then close it and then hide/idle PS it raises and stays around 1.25-1.5 GB if not more.

I have tried to Purge All, and even hide all menus to no avail. I have even tried to close Suitcase (eliminate any font issues) and still same problem. I am running PS bone stock, no extra plug-ins.Â

Windows Explorer set to open image files with PSE11, but when I double click on image in WE it launches PSE11, but I then need to click on Open tab in PSE11 to get it into work window. PSE10 did not have this problem
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently upgraded my computer to Win 7 and then to PS CS6 Extended. Now when I process RAW files in ACR 8.1, I get an "Out of Memory" error if I do more than 70 ~ 80 - 24 mb files. Also, it's running really slow. It's taking nearly 50 seconds to process 1 - 24 mb file where PS CS3 and ACR 4.X it took only 17 for the same size file.

What I have done is made sure that the scratch drive is listed first for cache in both PS and ACR, then in ACR, set the cache to nearly 500,000. (I think these numbers are correct, I'm not at the offending computer now)So the questions are; do I need to make any changes to specific setting? Does PS CS6 and ACR 8.1 require more RAM?
I've recieved a drawing from a customer and i'm unable to load it. When I open it, it asks to be recovered because of a damaged file. I hit the recover button and starts to load the file but after a while comes up with an error saying "FATAL ERROR: Out of memory - shutting down." Is the file just corrupted? My memory isn't even being used. Specs are i7-2600 3.40 ghz, 16gb ram and sli nvidia 570 gtx cards.Â
I've also tried the recover command, but it did the same thing.
There was a second drawing they sent me too, but it comes up with a fatal error 0x0050. I've attached both drawings.
