Photoshop :: After Updating CS5 To 12.0.4 X32 (windows) / Cannot Open Documents / Files Or Create New
Oct 18, 2012
Reinstalled Photoshop CS5 and updated again.Clicking a file starts Photoshop but does not open the file.If I click "new" to make a new file, nothing happens.
Mac OSX10.6.8, PS CS6 current version (not the cloud).Just updated from CS5 to CS6. Photoshop, when I open a new doc it is scaled down to .08%, and when I use the fit to window option the document scales down to .08% view. CS5 does not do this, thought maybe I have a setting wrong in CS6, or something is new that I missed. Doesn't have anything to do with resize window pref., does it no matter if it's checked or not.
I have CS6 running on Win8 pro and as of today I can’t get photoshop to open or create new files. It just essentially ignores me - no crash, and the menus are still available. It’s been working past few weeks though. I have tried rebooting at least 5 times and deleted my settings file (CTRL+SHIFT+ALT when starting). Nothing works. The cloud app says it is up to date.
I am running a GeForce GTX 560M and was running the latest released driver. I've tried installing their latest beta driver and got same results. Is there a log file somewhere I can check?
I have CS5 for my Mac (running on OSX 10.7.5) and I cannot get any windows to open. If I open the program, go to File > New and try to create something when I hit OK there is no new blank window popping up. Over on the right hand side there is a layer for background but no window. If I try to drag a file into Photoshop, it will show the layers on the dashboard along the side but the file doesn't actually pop up.
I am having an issues with Photoshop becoming unresponsive. After about 10 minutes Photoshop will not open or create a document. I've disabled opengl in Photoshop with the same results. This error occurs on both CS5 and CS6 versions of Photoshop. I've tried reinstalling Photoshop (not removing and reinstalling, just reinstalling).
I have been experiencing a problem with Photoshop CS5 12.1 in which, after a variable amount of time from a system restart, Photoshop will no longer open files or create new ones. It is very difficult to search for and/or explain the nature of this problem, but I will try my best.
Photoshop behaves completely normally after a fresh reboot of Windows until this problem presents itself.
The problem has manifested itself during use and before use. If it occurs during use, it seems that various features of Photoshop stop working. For example: I can't save files that are open. Photoshop will go through the motions of doing a "File > Save as...", but nothing happens on the file system. Restarting Photoshop at this point does not resolve the problem.
If Photoshop is already in this non-functional state upon opening, files cannot be opened nor new files created. Here is what happens during an attempt to open a file: Click "File > Open..."Open dialog is shown, I browse to select a ".psd" file to openOnce file is selected, click "Open" button on dialogDialog disappears, but document never opens If I try to use "File > New...", the New dialog never appears.
Once in this state, the only way to use Photoshop normally again is to do a full system reboot. This seems to indicate that something is slowly happening on my system (such as RAM usage) that eventually renders Photoshop inoperable. However, at the time of failure, there appears to be ample resources available for Photoshop to use.
if I need to clarify any of this further.

If it would be useful to include information from a fresh restart (pre failure)
CS6 illustrator and photoshop not allowing me to open documents due to different reasons...damaged files, badly formatted, not compatible etc. However, these files were all created on the same computer and program therefore should be compatible. Is there a way for me to fix these files/prevent this from happening in the future?
I just upgraded from CS5 to CS6 64 bit using Windows 7 64bit.I use Windows Explorer to open my files, but when I click on a JPG file it now uses another program to open the JPG, not CS6. When I go to set CS6 as the default program, CS6 is not in the list. When I manually set it as the default program, it does not work (it will not open the JPG and doesn't change the default program to CS6).
I can set CS6 to open TIF, PSD and other image file types by default. It appears this only doesn't work with JPG files.
I also can go to CS6 and open a JPG directly, but I cannot open them through Windows Explorer (the old file manager)..I do have the current updates on both Windows 7 and CS6.I do not care to use Bridge as my file manager, I like Explorer.
I Have Photoshop CS6 Extended (on Windows 7 - 64bit).
But it does not open my .psd files, only if I run Photoshop CS6 and go File > Open > "and then open the file", it will open, but If I go to the file it self it does not recognize CS6 as the default program or to open it. It tells me it cannot find a program to open the .psd file with. I have tried several times to set the Default Program but it is not even there and if I click on "browse" to find Photoshop and click "open" it does not open or show Photoshop in the Default Programs.
Now I accidently clicked on coreldraw and I don't want my .psd files opening with coreldraw! because I hardly use coreldraw, I only needed it for my studies. When I had CS5 it worked and opened fine, with CS6 the .psd files just don't find Photoshop.how can I fix this so that my .psd files get recognized?
I am having a problem with opening some files in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended (Version 12.1) and have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS.
I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.
I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files.
After getting no support from your phone support line. I am writing here in hopes that this issue can be resolved. I cannot open files or create new files in Photoshop CC trial.
Photoshop CC is not among the programs listed and Windows won't let me add it to the list. Oddly, Illustrator CC is listed. How do I rectify this? I have Photoshop CS6 installed and that is listed. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Is there any way to save/open files in Adobe products using the general Windows format, i.e. where you could copy & paste a folder location into your address bar. I work on multiple projects across a complex network and I have to manually navigate through all the folders each time, and I can't copy & paste a location like I could if I was browsing through Windows normally. Also you can't save favorite locations?
Several of the operations out of LR 4.2 say I need to update to ACR 7.2. When I go to the Updates screen in CS6, I get a message saying the servers are busy, or possibly there is a problem with the firewall.
I logged off as my normal user and logged back in as the Administrator and tried it again and got the same message.
I recently downloaded and installed the Photoshop CS6 Trial for Windows. Upon starting it, I try to create a New document, and no dialog window even opens. The open dialog will open, but selecting a file does nothing.
I am using Adobe Cloud. And have downloaded Photoshop CS6. Using it locally.
It was working fine. For weeks. The application still loads without error. But if I open a file nothing happens. No error message. But no file appears. And if I try to create a new file the same thing. No error message. But no new canvas to work with. In both cases nothing appears in the layers panel.
The Help menu gives me the option of deactivating. So I am assuming it is not an activation issue. Fireworks works fine. Illustrator works fine. Only Photoshop has this problem.
I am running Windows 8. 64bit. 12gb. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 2gb. Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64. No optional 3rd party plugins.
I installed the CS6 Master Suit trial version and after a little bit, I'd notice that after awhile of using photoshop, it wouldn't:
Open old files Create new ones Would slow down and start bugging out if I had a file open when the "event" occured.Would be unable to save. After searching google, I found, such as the default printer being a network printer that was not connected or that the preferences had been corrupted. None of these worked. I did a clean reinstall of windows, but this did not fix my problem. Now, I think I remember that there was an issue that I had like this years ago, and it was a windows update that screwed up photoshop, one of the K9XXXXXX such updates. Other than that, I have no leads except the fact that it is either hardware based or somehow the problem lingers after reinstall of windows.

I have never encountered this before, and really dont want to have to reload PS. I am currently running Photoshop CS.
When I choose File-New, it allows me to specify file size and such, and then I click ok and nothing happens. If I click File-Open, the open dialog box comes up, I can select a file and click open, and nothing happens. However, when that open dialog box opens, if I double click an individual file, it will open.
Another thing I noticed is that if I want to use the text tool, I have to double click on the image in order to get the cursor to come up. It seems like everything requires a "double-click", but I havent found any reference to this. Does anyone have any insight?
I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended on a MacBook Pro 15 (Late 2011) running Mac OS X 10.7.3. When I open a document in Photoshop, the document window is nowhere to be found yet it allows me to edit things within the document via double-clicking layers in the layers panel. Why does this happen and how do I fix it?
I've tried opening multiple documents at once, using the "arrange windows" option, and changing the workspace, all to no avail. The only thing I have found is restarting the entire system each time. This isn't something I want to continue to do.
I just bought Photoshop CS5 and I can not open RAW documents with it. It happened to me the same problem with Element 8 and I managed to install CameraRaw8 on it.
I did the same manipulation and this error message show up: "Unable to use the Camera Raw plug-in"
My Photoshop suddenly is not responding to any actions, such as opening ,creating or saving documents. Program is not freezed or anything, it just doesn't respond to actions. I worked with Photoshop last night, everything worked fine, set'd PC to sleep mode instead of shut down. Now when I woke up the PC, and tried to continue working, Photoshop just doesn't respond at all.
I had very little hard drive space available, but I cleaned it up to like 20Gb (I have worked with Photoshop, when there's only like 2Gb free space on scratch disk tho), closed other programs but still the same.
Restarting computer doesn't work anything, program opens, but it won't open or create anything. This is frustrating,
Suddenly my Photoshop CS4 has stopped working. I can open the program, but are not able to either open files (jpg, psd, tif ++) or create new files. No error message, it just doesn't happen anything. The program doesn't stop working either, I can still browse all menus or try to open the file again, but nothing happens, it's just like the functions doesn't work. Sometimes I''m able to open a file, by browsing my computer and choose "open in photoshop cs4". Then the file opens in Photoshop, but I'm not able to do anything. No menus or actions are working. I'm running 64bit Windows 7 on a Lenovo T420s laptop.
I'm running photoshop version 11.0.2
I have tried to reset the preferences, tried to reinstall Photoshop, tried other versions (CS5) and even tried to reinstall my computer. The program is still not working.
System info: Adobe Photoshop Version: 11.0.2 (11.0.2x20100514 [20100514.r.591 2010/05/14:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch]) X64
I've just installed and updated PS 11 extended and I've noticed the following change. When I open or create a document it always opens maximized. I hate working like that, I only ever work in floating windows, so every single time I open or create a document I first have to tell it to float.
