Photoshop :: Cannot Set Windows To Use CS6 To Open JPG Files
Nov 10, 2012
I just upgraded from CS5 to CS6 64 bit using Windows 7 64bit.I use Windows Explorer to open my files, but when I click on a JPG file it now uses another program to open the JPG, not CS6. When I go to set CS6 as the default program, CS6 is not in the list. When I manually set it as the default program, it does not work (it will not open the JPG and doesn't change the default program to CS6).
I can set CS6 to open TIF, PSD and other image file types by default. It appears this only doesn't work with JPG files.
I also can go to CS6 and open a JPG directly, but I cannot open them through Windows Explorer (the old file manager)..I do have the current updates on both Windows 7 and CS6.I do not care to use Bridge as my file manager, I like Explorer.
I have CS6 running on Win8 pro and as of today I can’t get photoshop to open or create new files. It just essentially ignores me - no crash, and the menus are still available. It’s been working past few weeks though. I have tried rebooting at least 5 times and deleted my settings file (CTRL+SHIFT+ALT when starting). Nothing works. The cloud app says it is up to date.
I am running a GeForce GTX 560M and was running the latest released driver. I've tried installing their latest beta driver and got same results. Is there a log file somewhere I can check?
I have CS5 for my Mac (running on OSX 10.7.5) and I cannot get any windows to open. If I open the program, go to File > New and try to create something when I hit OK there is no new blank window popping up. Over on the right hand side there is a layer for background but no window. If I try to drag a file into Photoshop, it will show the layers on the dashboard along the side but the file doesn't actually pop up.
I Have Photoshop CS6 Extended (on Windows 7 - 64bit).
But it does not open my .psd files, only if I run Photoshop CS6 and go File > Open > "and then open the file", it will open, but If I go to the file it self it does not recognize CS6 as the default program or to open it. It tells me it cannot find a program to open the .psd file with. I have tried several times to set the Default Program but it is not even there and if I click on "browse" to find Photoshop and click "open" it does not open or show Photoshop in the Default Programs.
Now I accidently clicked on coreldraw and I don't want my .psd files opening with coreldraw! because I hardly use coreldraw, I only needed it for my studies. When I had CS5 it worked and opened fine, with CS6 the .psd files just don't find Photoshop.how can I fix this so that my .psd files get recognized?
Reinstalled Photoshop CS5 and updated again.Clicking a file starts Photoshop but does not open the file.If I click "new" to make a new file, nothing happens.
I am having a problem with opening some files in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended (Version 12.1) and have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS.
I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.
I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files.
Photoshop CC is not among the programs listed and Windows won't let me add it to the list. Oddly, Illustrator CC is listed. How do I rectify this? I have Photoshop CS6 installed and that is listed. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Is there any way to save/open files in Adobe products using the general Windows format, i.e. where you could copy & paste a folder location into your address bar. I work on multiple projects across a complex network and I have to manually navigate through all the folders each time, and I can't copy & paste a location like I could if I was browsing through Windows normally. Also you can't save favorite locations?
Windows Explorer set to open image files with PSE11, but when I double click on image in WE it launches PSE11, but I then need to click on Open tab in PSE11 to get it into work window. PSE10 did not have this problem
I'm on Windows 7, running CS (2003, I thought it was CS3), and I recently installed a Monoprice graphics tablet that I assume was causing issues with my OS and mouse (PC/mouse kept locking up), and ultimately PS would no longer open either... so I uninstalled the tablet, which seems to have fixed the OS/mouse problems (after some more hassle), but PS would still not open. I just uninstalled the PS SW and reinstalled it, but still can't get it to open.
When I go to open it, it starts to boot up, but then hangs at the same point... the boot screen comes up and toggles through startup to the point of "Reading Text Global Resources...Done." then just hangs.
Also, I've seen similar threads that generally say to "Ctrl+Alt+Shift" etc to reset things, but when I try that, it doesn't bring up a reset option that I can find...
I have photoshop loaded on an external hard drive. I was using Windows Vista, but that computer crashed. I purchased a new computer already loaded with Windows 8. Photoshop will not open. I do know there is nothing wrong with the version of Photoshop because if I take the external hard drive to a different computer, it'll open and work fine.
I have changed the compatibility to everything in the list, and nothing works to open Photoshop. I do not have the disk, so I can't uninstall/reinstall, but it's on an external hard drive to begin with.
I have autocad civil 3d 2008 in my pc. From last 2 days I got a different problem i.e. when I am selecting open / save command from File menu graphical file select explorer is not opening just message in the command window . Previously I used to select files using graphical file explorer.
Mac OSX10.6.8, PS CS6 current version (not the cloud).Just updated from CS5 to CS6. Photoshop, when I open a new doc it is scaled down to .08%, and when I use the fit to window option the document scales down to .08% view. CS5 does not do this, thought maybe I have a setting wrong in CS6, or something is new that I missed. Doesn't have anything to do with resize window pref., does it no matter if it's checked or not.
When I save photoshop documents on my Mac they are unable to be opened on windows. This happens roughly 60% of the time. The only way I have learned to resolve this problem is to create a new photoshop document, copy all of the layers into this new document, and save it again. The Mac is new - about three weeks old. We save all of our files on an external harddrive backed up on the Mac. All of our computers run CS6.
I use the "Open with..." command in the Windows right-click context menu all the time to open .jpg and other image files in Photoshop. I don't want to directly associate .jpgs, etc, to Photoshop because most of the time I just want to view them quickly in Windows Photo Viewer. But every once in a while, I need to open one in PS, so I had been using the "Open with..." menu command. This worked fine in every version of CS that I've ever used.
Until, all of a sudden, when I installed CS5.5, "Open with..." no longer works. Right-clicking on a .jpg, for instance, doesn't even show Photoshop as a valid option for an application in which to open the file (not in the "Recommended Programs" list or even the "Other Programs" list). So I have to go and browse for an "Additional Program". I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, but whether I choose the photoshop.exe in Program Files or Program Files (x86), the jpg still just opens in the default application (Windows Photo Viewer).
Same for PDFs (opening in either Photoshop or Illustrator).PSDs open fine, directly, when I double-click the file. This really seems like a CS issue, since "Open with" still works fine for other non-Adobe applications. How can I get my "Open with" menu to "see" Photoshop again as a valid option and pass the filename correctly so that it actually opens the file?
I remember reading somewhere that two windows could be opened for the same document allowing one to be worked on while zoomed in and the 2nd would update to show the changes.
How do I open two windows of the same document?
This is a neat trick as it allows document to be worked on without continually zooming in and zooming out to see how it all looks.
I am using Photoshop CS2 on Win XP machine and was wondering if there was a keystroke to minimizing all open windows or can that be set up in custom keystrokes.
PSE10 editor won't open. I was working in editor, mouse pointer went away, computer froze. After turning off and starting again everything seems to be fine except editor won't open.
Recently I installed an update to Corel X6 after I had updated CS6 of Photoshop. Now despite choosing Photoshop as the default application, jpgs open in Acrobat.
Just choosing Photoshop as the default application doesn't change anything. They still open in Acrobat unless I first start Photoshop and open the file I want.
When I turn on my compagny computer everything is alright. Photoshop CS6 13.0 x32 start correctly. I can work on picture as expected. But during the day, Photoshop doesn't want to open other file (any other file).I can continue to work on a picture that still open and can save it, but I can not open anything else.
Restart Photoshop doesn't work. I must reboot the computer to correct this and open other file.I'm on windows 7 SP1 with administrator rights..No plugin installed.
Why in Photoshop & Illustrator CS6 "Open" and "Save as" dialog box style is from Windows XP?
In AfterEffects, Audition and other is new dialog box style:
Can Adobe add in "Preferences" - option with checkbox for users Windows 7/8 who can use the new windows explorer with extended folder bar? That would be simplified and speeded up a lot of things.
My Windows 7 has updates. When it does this, Photoshop will not run. I have reverted the PC back before the update and Photoshop runs fine. The only thing is that the PC will update itself unless I turn the automatic updates off. Photoshop CS2, running on Windows' 7 Home Deluxe edition.
When the "Open Documents as Tabs" checkbox is UNCHECKED, opening multiple documents via File > Open will open them as intended: stacking them on top of each other. However, dragging multiple documents onto the PS tab in the taskbar, or dragging them directly onto PS application surface will NOT have this effect and will open the documents in tabbed mode regardless of the prefs settings. THIS IS !%$@#$ ANNOYING!!! I hope adobe considers fixing this without making me pay a gazillion bucks for another update for a bug fix.
