View 1 RepliesI noticed some of my final jpeg photos were losing the lens info and others weren't. So I tried a couple things and revised all my workflow only to find out the following:
I use Capture NX2 to save TIFF images out of the RAW and then I open them on PS (CS6).
The original RAWs all have the <aux:Lens> tag in them. I checked with Photoshop and Bridge that they are there.
If I open the file with Capture and save it to two different files:
One TIFF and a second one Jpeg, both of them will continue to show the tag <aux:Lens> with the Lens type (again, checked with Bridge and PS).
But here comes the tricky part: if I open these files with photoshop and SAVE AS jpeg (in the same way), the one that originated from a TIFF will strip the "<aux:Lens>" tag on the final picture, while the one that originated from a jpeg will not.
There seems to be a problem on how Photoshop interprets the Exif info while saving from an original TIFF file.
I process three images with PSP X5 using the HDR feature and the EXIF data is dropped.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am the author of PTLens, software for correcting lens distortion.
[URL]
The software functions by reading EXIF data and, based on this information, determines the camera, lens, and focal length, and automatically corrects lens distortion.
The plug-in is compatible with Photoshop on both the Mac and PC. Unfortunately, EXIF data is not available for plug-ins under PSP. Without EXIF data the user must manually enter camera make, model, lens, and lens focal length. This is a bit onerous for users with zoom lenses.
Work at your end, assuming you have access to a pointer to EXIF data, is trivial. I estimate less than one hour of developer time. As a result, users will have access to automatic correction for distortion via the PTLens plug-in.
I am willing to work with a developer on your end to see this feature implemented in your software.
Technical information follows.

A call to getProperty returns zero, indicating all is okay. But a call to getSize returns zero, indicating no EXIF data. I tried a different approach. A PSP script, to obtain EXIF data, was successful. But there is no way to pass this information to a plug-in.
Setting an environment variable in the script, and reading the variable in the plug-in, won't work because I need to set an environment variable in a parent process. This is not permitted.
Writing a file from the script, and then reading it back in the plug-in, doesn't work because the script is running in a protected environment where writing files is not allowed.
I use a Pentax K-r and the white balance icon above the EXIF data panel only shows if I have used Auto White Balance. If I have used any of the other modes available in the camera, no icon is shown and the EXIF data lists the shot as taken with manual white balance. The other two icons (metering mode and JPG/DNG) work correctly. The white balance issue means that I have to note the white balance setting of each shot while the card is in the camera and put it by hand against the shot in PaintShop Pro. This is very time-consuming and seems to be a serious omission.
I have since found that the white balance icon works with my Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-150 camera, although the EXIF data still shows the shots as taken with manual white balance, so it seems to be a compatibility problem that needs to be resolved.
It seems I can either save work at a lower quality jpeg, or export to get higher quality and lose the EXIF. I never want to use the lower quality, never, but I cannot seem to find anything in the Preferences to avoid having to manually set the quality. Is there a way to save at a higher quality than currently provided by PSP X4 by default?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Paintshop Pro Photo XI. When opening my unedited picture in Irfanview I can read a long list of information under "EXIF", but as soon when I open the photo in Paintshop and save it a great part of the original EXIF information is "gone" and replaced by a very brief survey, including Paintshop information.
What can I do to preserve the original EXIF information?
I am using Paint Shop Pro V7.04. When I save a file as a JPG, it strips EXIF info and the tags describing the camera settings for the image. Is there any way of preventing this on this version of PSP?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe first comment is when starting X4, viewing MANAGE tab and mousing over INFO pallet which is in auto-rollup mode on the upper right margin, Info opens to the General tab. It would be best for me to see the EXIF data as default. Maybe X4 could remember what Info tab is/was displayed?
Secondly, my Canon PowerShot SX230 has GPS tagging capability, and I'm not seeing GPS coordinates in ANY of the Info tabs. I think this info is necessary and is one of the reasons I bought the camera. Corel could include HYPERLINK capabilities in the Info space someday. See attached view of Canon Map Utility. How about an EXPORT to Google Earth function with mapping data and photo attachment?
Is there any way in the PSE 8 Organizer to do an advanced exif search perhaps by typing something special into the search box? Reasoin is: I want to use those pics on a digital image frame and I want to show some image data as well. As there are no options in the software of the digiframe to display exifs I have to integrate them in the pictures...
if it is not possible with lightroom then probably you can tell me another way (bridge, photoshop, ...) - just not manually...
Does the current 4.?? (or 5) provide a way of including selected EXIF info as text on the image at export ?
I want to place lens and exposure info on each image as plain text. Morgrify suggested but that no longer works.
I've been playing around with Exif orientation data, and CS4 always shows the orientation as "Normal" in File -> File Info. However, looking at the same EXIF information with other programs (e.g. Picasa), I see the appropriate rotation information, which is consistent with how I took the photos. Is this a bug in Photoshop CS4? I took the photos with an iPhone 4, by the way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to view exif info of each photo on the LR 4.2 import screen. I'd like to view Exif data before making the decision to import the capture but can't figure out how to do this. Ideally it would appear as a 'tooltip' when hovering over the image in gridview, or, when looking at a single image it using the "I" key should display image info like it does in other modules of LR4. Are there any plugins that could do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI shoot in raw, I import into lightroom by doing a sync folder. Then I edit my picture using photoshop cs6. I save it as a jpeg. Finally I export this image as a jpeg to a sub folder called Publish, which means its ready for the web. problem is when i look at image in lightroom on the right side the histogram has no details, it wont show iso, fstop or anything. if I look at my original RAW file i can see the exif info in the histogram but on my final exported image its all gone.
furthmore it looses all its tags and meta data, I have to copy the metadata back to this file. it would be nice if lightroom would reinsert the meta info and exif once its reimported into lightroom.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a solution about the omission of lens brand in the Exif data generated by Lightroom (even 4.2 version).
I know there is some discussions about this topic, but I didn't find anything specific with brands of lenses.
When I export with Aperture, correct Lens ID appears in the Exif data:
Eg Lens Model: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
But when I export the same CR2 file in Lightroom, "Canon" is omitted, I got:
Lens Model: EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Same thing with pictures taked with my Sigma and Canon family.
In my case this is a "problem". I need Exif tags containing lens brand for an accurate process with others softwares, for example with PTGUI to generate spherical panoramic.
I have a number of unchipped manual focus lenses (Zeiss and Nikon). As a result, no lens information is recorded in the EXIF/Metadata file. How am I able to update this information? What applications are available to use if not by Adobe. Note: I do use LR3 and PS CS5.
Currently under the library table and Metadata filter these unchipped lenses read "0.0mm f/0.0". Note I do use the set up in my camera menu to notify the camera's focal length. So when I move the cursor over the photo is will indicate the focal length. Its just this information can't be used as a filter or for search.
In Photoshop CS4, my File>Info window is now blank (empty) and modal, i.e., I must close Photoshop via Task Manager (Windows 7).

apparently reads the EXIF data to determine relative UV.
The Screen and Multiply blend modes seem to change EV by about one. Naturally, this can't recover pixels at (0, 0, 0) or (255, 255, 255) but it comes close with most other values.
Why does a block appear at 0, 0, 0 in map 3d specifically? I need the technical reasons behind this, this is entirely for educational purposes.
