I am getting strange banding when applying the X4 warp brush to a tiff file out of lightroom. Never seen anything like this in X2, X3 or adobe 16 bit brushes. pic below (win 7 pro, i7 950, X58 MB, GTX460)
View 2 RepliesHaving just upgraded to PSP X4 SP1 (14.1.0.5), I spent some time yesterday exploring the tone map layer feature on a few landscape images. The images were in different formats, like TIF, psp image and jpeg. Some were in color, other in b&w. A couple of the images were high-quality scans, the others were from digital cameras (Nikon D200 and D700).
Not wanting to overdo it, I applied the tone maps moderately. In addition, I used a few other layers like HSL, curves etc., all of them used in very moderate levels (e.g., slight desaturation and very modest S-curves). The results were very much to my satisfaction. Looking at them in large format on my monitor, I began thinking of using a few of these, and similar, images for an upcoming exhibition.
Then, I noticed the banding. I became aware of it when I reduced the displayed size of the images. I tried image after image, and found some banding of all of them. Having become aware of it I was also able to spot it on pictures in larger formats.
The banding is rather vague but becomes more evident when the image is reduced in display size, or when an image on the wall is viewed from across the room. It follows the form of the image, presenting itself as a vaguely darker, rather broad band about halfway between the image borders and the image center, in the same aspect ratio as the image itself. I am not sure what constitutes the band but somehow, at least a certain amount of pixels appear to have darkened, following a certain mathematical pattern, forming a somewhat darker rectangle within the image rectangle.
By disabling the other layers I found that the tonemap layer was responsible for the banding. Exaggerating the tonemap, exaggerating the image contrast and/or sharpening the image will make the banding more prominent for illustration purposes.
I would like to work more with the tonemap feature but need to know if there is a way around this problem, or if it will will be addressed in SP2.
I am trying to edit a photo using the mesh warp tool. I have it exactly as I want it, but when I go to apply it, every part of the photo I have warped gets deleted and I just get the white background underneath. I have looked online for guides and videos but when they apply their changes their edits stay exactly the same!

View 14 Replies View RelatedI want to use the paint brush for editing a photo I have, but the only color available is black. No matter where I've looked in PSP, there was no option to change the color of the paint brush. I've read online that you need to change the pallet to material pallet, then go to "Foreground & Stroke Properties" and set the color box to the color I want, but the only colors I get are different hues of black and gray.
Even in Paint it's just a matter of clicking the desired color to use different colors. Why isn't it so simple in PSP?
I was reading a tutorial on Photoshop about using a gradient map on a brush (the case in point was of drawing fire, with four colours, black, red yallow and white, making up the gradient map) such that you'd paint just once to get all four colours from each brush stroke. Here is an example. I was wondering how to do that in PSP X3 Ultimate. I am not new to PSP but I never used the more complicated brush features. Scripting doesn't scare me too much, if it comes to that, but I'd prefer a manual approach.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPSPX4's change to target tool has never worked right for me. I have X2 which does work right. In PSPX4 no matter what the setting it applies way too much color. Even at 1% opacity it is like about 80% in PSPX2 with all settings the same.
Latest updates installed. PSPX4 still does not like Adobe LR4 JPEGs when resaving them, although I now get an error message instead of a save that loses the file for good as some 4-8k sized file that can't be opened. I still have to use X2 for those two reasons.
i just opened ps, and was about to work on some client stuff.... same as ususal. hit the brush tool... no different from yesterday, same default settings, and my brush started doing some weird patterns... as if all the smoothing on the brush was gone. Looks like a bullseye when i apply the brush a number of times in one spot. (brush hardness = 0). very strange. I couldnt find anything wrong, and i didnt change my settings from the day before...? So i just updated my display drivers for my nvidia 8800 gts... and same issues... only with the brushes... gradients are still smooth? heres a screen shot of what im getting.Â

Now I 'm not able to recover it and I cannot change the dimension of the brush of the warp brush tool. I don't know what to do and I'm in trouble. I have tried all the tool bars but it doesn't appear anymore. How can I change the dimension of the warp brush tool without that?

Step 1.
Density and Thickness 100.
Rotation 0.
Opacity.
Here's my problem. If I set it to 71 or below nothing happens. If I set it to 72 or higher I get a big smudge. I can't get an opaque smudge. 72 I get nothing and at 73 I get a lot of smudge. I can go with a higher setting ok but I can't get anything below 72.I can play with density but that' gives a different result. Not what I want.
When using the oil brush, the color selector circle in the mixer palette is huge. Is there a way to make the selector circle smaller when using the oil brush The dropper at the center of the circle didn't show up in the screen grab.

No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation.  Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.Â
I am not very good with photoshop, and if there was a brush tool setting to make it just like an actual paint brush.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

Though PSP no longer supports Animation Shop, up until PSP X4, the user has been able to export frames back to PSP from Animation Shop. Now, this no longer works! Plus, in the end my pattern looks too regular, not very natural. Here is part of the image whose look I'm trying to recreate (400% and 100%).
