No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation.  Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.Â

Jul 5, 2012I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

May 15, 2012I want to use the paint brush for editing a photo I have, but the only color available is black. No matter where I've looked in PSP, there was no option to change the color of the paint brush. I've read online that you need to change the pallet to material pallet, then go to "Foreground & Stroke Properties" and set the color box to the color I want, but the only colors I get are different hues of black and gray.
Even in Paint it's just a matter of clicking the desired color to use different colors. Why isn't it so simple in PSP?

Feb 21, 2011I was wondering if it was possible to make a selection tool that works just like the brush tool and pencil tool.i think it'd be much easier to select very small areas with this.If it is possible to consider putting it in PDN if it isn't too much of a problem.
Also while im at it can you make the transparent background design customizable because all the grays make it kind of hard to tell if you have a stray pixel.I'm currently using PDN to sprite so stray pixels will get me flamed on the site i post them on i'm also aware that i could just make a layer to cover it but when i click save im reminded of the extra layer than i have to cancel and remove it.

Feb 26, 2011If I select Layers\Import from File... to import a new image into my current project, then anchor the cloning brush (in the newly imported), then select a location from the existing image...I can successfully clone.
I'm trying to figure out how soften or reduce the opacity of just the brush. In other words, what I'm cloning comes out way to strong. In some other packages, I'm able to set the opacity of the brush to soften what I'm copying.
Illustrator :: Paint Brush Stroke
Aug 23, 2013I am new to Illustrator and am taking an Illustrator class. One of the excercises we are supposed to do is just tracing over a greyed-out image that is made up of one long brush stroke. the idea is to start at one end of this long stroke and follow all the curves, not letting up on the mouse button till the end. As the title states, we are using the paintbrush for this.

the brush quits putting out any color, even though I DO NOT let up on the mouse button! have tried and tried with the same result. So picture this...if you stretched this stroke out in a strait line, it might be 20 inches long, but i can only trace 10 inches of it before the paintbrush quits.

I have googled this to no avail. I am on a pc, but it is not just on one machine, as I have tried this on one Windows 8 desktop, a Windows 8 laptop, and a Windows 7 laptop, all using different mice as well. Both laptops have I7 chips with 4gigs of ram, and the desktop has a core 2 quad chip with 8 gigs of ram, so I dont think thats a problem. Just seems weird that its happening on all three machines.

Also, its not the file that Im tracing around either, because I can get the same result if I just open a new document and just start painting a long stroke before too long it quitsThis is happening in Illustrator CC. Class doesnt meet again for a week, so just thought I would ask here.
Photoshop :: Unable To Use Paint Brush On Shape
Aug 29, 2012I have made my first object with the shapes tools, LS, and with the use of the Path Selection tools and then Grouped everything via the Layers panel.

Next I am suppose to add a New Layer and draw a Rectangle Shape and place the Shape Layer below the group and above a Layer w/a Radial Gradient . then I am suppose to use the Paint Brush on the Shape to Airbrush a light (light as in light from a light bulb not as in a shade) effect but when I go to select the Brush tool I am told I must Rasterize the Layer beforehand.

However, when I do Rasterize the Layer the Shape becomes filled with a color which leaves me unable to achieve the desired effect. I draw the shape with the Color Fill set to None.

I checked the "User Manual" but I have been unable to find an answer as to what I can do. I have tried using the Path tool to create a Selection before trying to use the Brush tool but that also tells me to Rasterize beforehand.

Jan 12, 2011When using the Brush tool in Photoshop, adjusting its opacity to (say) 50% en then painting the number "8"---so by crossing the curve with itself---how come the crossing does not add its opacity? If you would draw with a real brush on a real canvas, and come back to the same point in one single stroke, then that would be darker and darker. Why does Photoshop has another rule for this, should that work for a certain application? I find it rather not realistic, so I was wondering...

Oct 26, 2012I use iMac i7 with lion 10.7.5..After a "considerable" amount of editing, photoshop just stops responding. For example, the paint brush cursor will move but no paint can be applied. Have about 10-12 layers, guessing abour 70 history steps.

Must exit the app and restart, at which time it will behave normally. I use latest, almost, OS and have 8GB ram.

Here is an example. I was wondering how to do that in PSP X3 Ultimate. I am not new to PSP but I never used the more complicated brush features. Scripting doesn't scare me too much, if it comes to that, but I'd prefer a manual approach.

Jul 17, 2012PSPX4's change to target tool has never worked right for me. I have X2 which does work right. In PSPX4 no matter what the setting it applies way too much color. Even at 1% opacity it is like about 80% in PSPX2 with all settings the same.
Latest updates installed. PSPX4 still does not like Adobe LR4 JPEGs when resaving them, although I now get an error message instead of a save that loses the file for good as some 4-8k sized file that can't be opened. I still have to use X2 for those two reasons.
Photoshop :: Masking: Pen Tool Or Paint Brush?
Jun 29, 2005I, like most of us here undoubtedly, have become pretty familiar with the pen tool. From way back when we first start by placing anchor points then going back over them and adjusting them, to getting to the point where we can place them in the right spot, adjust them as we place them and keep moving.
Recently though, just to change things around so I don’t get bored, I've decided to try using the brush tool and my drawing tablet for masking purposes.
I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it.
While they both give different results right off the bat, the end result is still the same. Something is masked out.
Mostly now, what I do is pen tool for everything except the hair. I just create a big path around the hair then come back and use the brush tool.
So...anyway. I'm just wondering if anyone has a preference or a good combination between the two?
Personally, I like both. I think they both have their strong points and weaknesses. The pen tool makes masked objects look obviously cropped, while the brush gives a bit more of a random edge. I mean you can still spot cropped images that were made with a brush, but its not as in your face. Of that is neither good or bad because if you need those sharp edges, your better off using the pen tool.

Jun 13, 2009In CS4, holding the ALT key down and right-click-dragging left or right decreases/increases brush size continuously on a PC. Is there a comparable way to tweak brush HARDNESS on a PC as you can on a Mac? I have tried additionally holding down the SHIFT key ala the square brackets alternative method for step-changing hardness, and have also tried all combinations of moderator keys to no avail.

It came out very translucent and I had to go over it about 5 times before it looked opaque...And I never changed any of the settings, I left it the same since I bought it. Aug 11, 2009my brush drawing slowly. I am retouching an 8x10" 300dpi 8 bit image and using a soft brush at 15% opacity. It could take 5 or 10 seconds for the brush to finish drawing a 6 inch long soft line. There is a delay and I cant do anything else till it finishes. I Have Photoshop CS4 running on Windows XP on a 3 gig machine... with 4 gigs of RAM. I am using 55% memory for the allocation with 20 histroy states and 4 for the cache. I have 1.6 Gigs of available memory and 37 gigs free in a separate scratch disk. I have a Radeon 9800 dual card with 125 megs onboard memory. Do I need to reset preferences because of something funny? My system seerms to be fast enough...but I may need a new video card possibly...I dont have GL2 enabled because its grayed out. My version of CS3 works fine.

Nov 1, 2008When using paint brush at 25% of full screen in the editing window, the paint brush circle starts to break up at 400 pixels ie it shows only the upper left part of the circle. At 50% of full screen it does the same starting at 175 pixels.
Can anyone duplicate this on their machine.
I run Photoshop CS4 on Wondows XP Pro SP2.
since I use the paint brush much of the time.
