Paint.NET :: Draw Smooth Curves With Brush / Pencil Without A Mess With Vectors
Sep 15, 2011
Does it exist? If not, why not? I discovered it in SAI and it's amazing how easily one could draw smooth curves with the brush/pencil without a need to mess with vectors but SAI is seriously lacking in many basic things that Paint.net has (i couldn't even change the size of a cut/pasted object). It would be perfect if Paint.net had it.

I'm using the Pencil Tool to draw shapes (not good enough for the Pen Tool yet) and some of my paths are not as smooth as I'd like, so I go over them with the Smooth Tool, though it seems like it either smooths the path a little bit or completely changes its shape.

I need to draw a thin white line across an image, infact several lines in different places. The lines need to be permanent. I want to key in the number of pixels for the the thickness of the line and if possible key in the position of the line. I know I can use a new grid line to position a grid line, but how do I then turn that grid line into a permanent line where I can decide the width and colour? I'm trying to refrain from the long way round of zooming up to 1600% and physically using the rectangular marquee tool then filling the rectangal with colour.

you can see what i mean in the following picture examples.
Selecting a brush (any 1 pixel) brush
[URL]........
shows my selection . Drawing a straight line
[URL]........
Zooming in to the line (600%) you can see i can draw a marquee through half of it ...
[URL].........
No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation. Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.

Having just entered the world of illustrator (cs6) I'm finding trying to get smooth curves to do what you want is a highly confusing operation.Being a fairly competant user of Photoshop the same task can be acheived relatively easily by way drawing paths with the pen tool and simply adding anchor points to drag out the desired shape. This buisness of dragging out handles in order to create curves in illustrator is crazy, I just can't seem to get the curves to behave how I want them to, I've watched probably 20 tutorials on this now and all demonstrate the same technique for creating curves, is there a more straight forward, simple way to achieve precise smooth curves similar to PS?

For a school project I was to render an everyday object and I chose a pepper. I created the pepper with the mesh tool and also rendered it with the gradient mesh, now my instructor says that I need to have really smooth curves but I have way too many anchor points so I don't know how to fix the curves.

In Illustrator CS6, I would like to draw these trails for a map I'm making. Is there a way I can draw using the "Pencil" tool where when I draw, it draws a second line next to it? Is there a setting for that?
Here is an old map where you can see the double broken lines. I know how to set it so the line has gaps in it, but I need a line to be the same next to it.

Often when working with the brush tool a very strange bug arises.Instead of the brushstrokes being visible in a normal way, the active area around the brush becomes a large square shape, slightly brighter than its surroundings. What this means is i can t see what im painting because a large square blankets the area around which im working. very strange its like the brush is selecting vectors around it as im using it.the actual painted area then become visible again when i release the mouse.i have managed to overcome by restarting LR, but is just keeps happening after using the brush tools for a while.

Am I the only one who has edited a stroke with the stroke width tool, then outlined the stroke only to find a countless number of points and noticeably unsmooth edges? Is there a setting or certain way to ensure that the stroke width tool won't corrupt the smoothness of my shapes? The stroke width tool is the most handy new feature I can imagine, but this problem makes it almost entirely useless, unless designing something where precision and smoothness are not important.

I don't seem to be able to change my stroke in brush or pencil. It keeps resetting back to basic stroke 1pt/basic/uniform. The only way I seem to be able to go around this problem is to first paint something and then select the stroke and choose the stroke width, etc., but that's too time consuming and very difficult to work. I am using CS 5. "New Art Has Basic Appearance" is unchecked.

When I use the healing brush is tends to "skip". It leaves a line of circles like a stamp would instead of a flowing line like it should leave. No matter how slow I move the brush it leaves a circle and then as I continue to draw nothing happens until I reach the edge of the first circle, it then drops another circle and it continues that way as long as I draw with it. The brush tool works fine, leaves a smooth line. The Spot Healing and Patch Tool work fine but the healing brush will not heal in a smooth stroke. It skips along a leaves a tail of circles the size of the brush. I am using a fast computer, i7 processor, 16bg ram and a SSD drive so I do not think speed is an issue. I upgraded from CS4 where the healing brush worked fine on this computer

When I set my pencil brush tool to 1px, to make some pixel art, it is not 1 pixel, it adds an extra pixel to the left. I dont know why this happens, but im the height IS 1 pixel, but the width adds an extra pixel to the left or right (mainly left). even when i position it ExACTLY in the center of the grid, which is set to 1px by 1px, it STILL adds an extra pixel

Using Debian testing - Gimp 2.6.11 and when I create a graphic I try to use airbrush, brush or pencil and I can't get them onto the graphic. The colour tester does get onto the graphic and works.
for the others the cursor vanishes and only the arrows on the ruler top and side move about. The cursor is behind the graphic? Moves out from under when I move off the graphic.

This was not an issue in CS5, and I can't figure out how to change it in CS6. I like to Illustrate with the Pencil Tool. I set the stroke to width profile 1 (tapered on both ends) and the stoke to whatever makes sense for my current project, and it keeps changing back to Uniform and 1pt. I have tried to get my settings to "stick" with the Pencil Tool and Brush Tool, and have had no luck. The only way I can change the stroke profile is to do it AFTER the stoke is made.

where I can find the "/" short line shaped brush so I can fill paths and draw curves. If I make one brush myself, the final result would be pretty coarse, and need anti-aliasing of some sort. The line drawn by my custom made brush just ain't that smooth.
Also, I wanna have my line in gold color with the metallic feeling, other than green line. You don't have to write detailed procedure, just tell me where should I look.

make a pixelated looking curve? I'm looking to draw a curving line, but would like no diagonals, so that it looks as if I have drawn with only straight, horizontal lines as if snapped to a grid. Is there a modification in brushes for this? In this pic, see where the lines step around the curve and arent smooth? That's what I want to do without drawing in each individual line.

I'm trying to adjust some walk animations. But I can't seem to use the Draw Curves option on a biped. Not in the workbench, nor in the curve editor.
I do notice that the Z, Y, & X curves are all in the same lane (transform), while on primitives for example, there are suboptions for the X, Y & Z axis. Normally I choose one of those, and start drawing curves.
So, the question is: How do I Draw Curves in Charachter Studio's workbench / on a biped?

The first problem I've encountered... is I can't even draw a circle or curve with Photoshop, because there is ALWAYS a straight edge somewhere!
When I am moving the brush tool directly left, right, up or down - I can make a perfectly straight line. But when I move it in an arc shape for example, it's like it's always trying to go back into a straight line instead of just cuuuuuurve...
Know what I mean? I am no noob to computers, I think it may have something to do with pixels being squares... But the thing is, I see a lot of paintings done in Photoshop that look so photo-realistic, perfect curvature and stuff. So there is a way!

I've never had this problem before. I'm using the standard soft round brush to blend colors, which has always given a smooth effect, but now it suddenly looks all pixelated. The brush strokes also appears in rings instead of a smooth gradient. It looks as if the picture has been sharpened too much or saved in bad quality. I've already tried things like changing the brush settings, deleting Photoshop preferences, increasing the RAM assigned to Photoshop, but nothing works.

I have simple outline drawings - like stars or paisleys - that I scan into PhotoPaint X5. So, to turn it into a vector drawing, I manually fill the outline drawing with the paintbrush, convert it to 1 bit, import it into CorelDraw, use the Trace Bitmap - outline trace - clip art, then do a hairline outline and remove the fill. I end up with a hairline outline of the original object that I can send to my laser. The objects must remain the same size as the original drawing.
Here's why I do some of what I outlined above. First, I manually fill the drawing because if I try to do the trace bitmap in CorelDraw X5 using the outline trace, it traces both the inside and the outside of the original line drawing because the line is thick. If I try the Trace Bitmap and select Centerline Trace, I the result is a jaggy line which won't work.
I think what I need most is a way to fill the object automatically rather than paint the inside of it. I thought I could just select the object in PhotoPaint and click on the fill, but it seems that the "object" is the outline drawing plus the background, so the fill ends up being the whole "object" including the background. I can Lasso the outline drawing and move it around on the background, but can't figure out how to do much else.
