if i choose the brush, penicl, eraser, no matter what size i use, all i see on the screen is as the screen shot below.
Why am i not seeing the actual size of the brush/eraser & pencil?
I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).
I'm often creating pixelart pics with transparent background using Pencil.. if as a secondary color would be an eraser (left click = drawing, right click = erasing). Is there such thing possible?
I can set some color and using Magic Wand (0 % tolerance) remove it or switching between pencil and eraser by keyboard, but - you know :) it's not so fast 'n' convenient. I tried to search for it here, but I guess I don't have correct keywords..
you can see what i mean in the following picture examples.

Selecting a brush (any 1 pixel) brush

Â
Zooming in to the line (600%) you can see i can draw a marquee through half of it ...

Â
No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation.  Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.Â
the brush, stamp brush and eraser tools are giving me a hard time the actual working area from the tool is so much smaller than the outside frame of it URL....
i'm using cs6.the picture i'm working with was enlarged to 400%.the brush, stamp brush tool was at size: 12px, hardness 100%.opacity 100%
Â
in the presettings i saw the brush was set to normal size.also i played with the jitter sizes, to no avail.
I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I set my pencil brush tool to 1px, to make some pixel art, it is not 1 pixel, it adds an extra pixel to the left. I dont know why this happens, but im the height IS 1 pixel, but the width adds an extra pixel to the left or right (mainly left). even when i position it ExACTLY in the center of the grid, which is set to 1px by 1px, it STILL adds an extra pixel
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason photoshop at times will only let me erase or draw within the confines of a specific layer. It seems to happen randomly without me accidently hitting a hotkey of some sort.
Â
For instance in the image below, I was drawing and randomly I noticed I could no longer draw. It would only let me use the brush/erase tool within the confines of the line work I had already established. The only way I have been able to correct this so far is to completely restart photoshop.
what I'm trying to do is make a selection and, with either the paintbrush or eraser, put a single coat of the selected brush texture on that entire selection.
Â
I've downloaded some really great brush sets and I want to apply one of them to the whole canvas as if I've painstakingly gone over the whole canvas and applied one coat of the paint brush or eraser. All the Google explanations refer to the smart brush which I can't seem to find. Perhaps its no longer in CS6?
Â
I'm using a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.8 & PS CS6.
This happened to my eraser tool ... somehow all of my round brushes have turned to hard brushes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my eraser and airbrush tools on a small image on a larger layer and I moved the image and, after that the eraser and paintbrush tools stopped working on all layers. When I went back to a previous version of the file the tools worked fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to draw a thin white line across an image, infact several lines in different places. The lines need to be permanent. I want to key in the number of pixels for the the thickness of the line and if possible key in the position of the line. I know I can use a new grid line to position a grid line, but how do I then turn that grid line into a permanent line where I can decide the width and colour? I'm trying to refrain from the long way round of zooming up to 1600% and physically using the rectangular marquee tool then filling the rectangal with colour.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAll brushes have been reset and are set the same. We are running CS5.5 Master Edition on a brand new 27" iMac 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core using a Radeon AMD HD6970M.
Â
This is a sample of how the tool is not using the entire diameter. This could be either erasing or painting a color.
I don't seem to be able to change my stroke in brush or pencil. It keeps resetting back to basic stroke 1pt/basic/uniform. The only way I seem to be able to go around this problem is to first paint something and then select the stroke and choose the stroke width, etc., but that's too time consuming and very difficult to work. I am using CS 5. "New Art Has Basic Appearance" is unchecked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Debian testing - Gimp 2.6.11 and when I create a graphic I try to use airbrush, brush or pencil and I can't get them onto the graphic. The colour tester does get onto the graphic and works.
for the others the cursor vanishes and only the arrows on the ruler top and side move about. The cursor is behind the graphic? Moves out from under when I move off the graphic.
Suddenly my CS2 has started to act up. First, after opening a file and start to do a background erasing, the brush shows up as crosshairs.
after a brief time of working with those limitations, when I click on the downdown menus, they get highlighted, but nothing drops down. If I try to close the file or the program, all I get is a warning "ding".
This was not an issue in CS5, and I can't figure out how to change it in CS6. I like to Illustrate with the Pencil Tool. I set the stroke to width profile 1 (tapered on both ends) and the stoke to whatever makes sense for my current project, and it keeps changing back to Uniform and 1pt. I have tried to get my settings to "stick" with the Pencil Tool and Brush Tool, and have had no luck. The only way I can change the stroke profile is to do it AFTER the stoke is made.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedIve had this happen before but after restarting the program it usually came back.
the circle that outlines the size of the brush has disappeared, so all i have is the little + sign.
i tried cntr+alt+shft at start to reset it, but its still the same.
Does it exist? If not, why not? I discovered it in SAI and it's amazing how easily one could draw smooth curves with the brush/pencil without a need to mess with vectors but SAI is seriously lacking in many basic things that Paint.net has (i couldn't even change the size of a cut/pasted object). It would be perfect if Paint.net had it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched google, PDN, and hades for a solution.
I am fairly new to PDN but love it so far.
I am creating a logo for my company and wanted to "cut" an object in half and place a saw blade in the middle (to give to appearance that it was cut). I thought about duplicating the layers, placing them apart and using the eraser or brush to give a jagged look?

is there a way to erase (like with eraser tool) the artistic media brush strokes ?Â
eraser tool works on every draw/shape/stroke but the artistic media tools. is there a workaround?
I must have fat fingered something and I now when I click on the Eraser Tool or the Brush Mask Tool instead of getting a circle or square, I get and icon of the tool instead. Â They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. Â I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy program worked just great, then all of a sudden the paint brush and eraser will not do a thing.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWorking in PS CS6. I want to use the pencil tool at 1px, and I've changed my settings accordingly (even typed it in to be sure) but the minumum size it will actually go is 3px.
Â
To be clear, the size is set to 1px, but when you zoom all the way in so that the individual pixels are visible, the pencil is a 3px x 3px square and will not go smaller.
Â
The brush tool does not behave this way, and I would use it instead but for this project I need the square precision of the pencil. I'm working in a 72dpi RGB document. I do not have this issue in CS5.
To turn photo To Pencil Draw we do this steps ..
Ctrl+Shift+U
Ctrl+j
Ctrl+i
M
Alt+Shift+D
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur> 3
Ctrl+E..
But my question is why we click litter " M " ?
And other steps ...
Would you like to draw a pencil sketch? You are not good at drawing? Well, it doesn’t matter,
Step 1: Open your image in Photoshop, Choose Image->Adjustment->Desaturate (or Ctrl+Shift+U by default) to make the photo to black-and-white.
Step 2: Click Layer-> Duplicate Layer, duplicate the background as background copy.
Step 3: Use Image->Adjustment->Invert (or Ctrl+I by default), then the image will look like a negative.
Step 4: From the layer palette, set the blending options as Color Dodge.
Step 5: Choose Filter->Blur->Guassian Blur, set the radius 4 pixels.
Step 6: Don’t forget to merge the layer at last. So, everything is done!
I am painting various pixels with transparency, and I don't like that pixels previously painted become more opaque when I paint over them. I would like the opacity information to remain the same, regardless of how often I paint over an already-painted pixel.
For example, suppose I paint the color (100,100,100) on a pixel with 60% opacity. If I paint over this pixel again, it should still have 60% opacity. I don't want it "stacking".
Also, just as an off topic question, is there any reason why so many people use photoshop over paint shop? I see them both as very identical and I'm having difficulty finding differences. Paint Shop Pro X is very nice, I think CS2 and PSPX are all the same.
My pencil tool has randomly stopped working, everything else in that pallet works fine. But when I select pencil and try to draw or change stroke size it has no reacion. I did try uninstall and reinstall but no good?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI´ve been making pixel art for a while now and recently I upgraded to cs6. all was fine till I tried to stroke a circular path with the pencil tool. The Circles it makes are completely uneven.
Â
These are the paths i traced in different sizes
Â
this is the stroked path with a 1 x 1 pixel pencilÂ
as you can see the the bottom and right part of the circles is different from the top left. it is more noticeable on smaller circles.it also happens with bigger stroke sizes.this diddn´t happen in cs5.
