the brush, stamp brush and eraser tools are giving me a hard time the actual working area from the tool is so much smaller than the outside frame of it URL....
i'm using cs6.the picture i'm working with was enlarged to 400%.the brush, stamp brush tool was at size: 12px, hardness 100%.opacity 100%
in the presettings i saw the brush was set to normal size.also i played with the jitter sizes, to no avail.
I was using my eraser and airbrush tools on a small image on a larger layer and I moved the image and, after that the eraser and paintbrush tools stopped working on all layers. When I went back to a previous version of the file the tools worked fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll brushes have been reset and are set the same. We are running CS5.5 Master Edition on a brand new 27" iMac 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core using a Radeon AMD HD6970M.
This is a sample of how the tool is not using the entire diameter. This could be either erasing or painting a color.
I am having a big problem when using the new CS6 on my Mac (os x 10.7.4). When switching to a new tool, like a brush, or clone stamp, or healing brush etc, Photoshop hangs for about 20 seconds before resuming. It's not 3rd party plug-ins, because I get the same behaviour when I run using the shift key and third party plug-ins are disabled. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens frequently.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).

For some reason photoshop at times will only let me erase or draw within the confines of a specific layer. It seems to happen randomly without me accidently hitting a hotkey of some sort.
For instance in the image below, I was drawing and randomly I noticed I could no longer draw. It would only let me use the brush/erase tool within the confines of the line work I had already established. The only way I have been able to correct this so far is to completely restart photoshop.
what I'm trying to do is make a selection and, with either the paintbrush or eraser, put a single coat of the selected brush texture on that entire selection.
I've downloaded some really great brush sets and I want to apply one of them to the whole canvas as if I've painstakingly gone over the whole canvas and applied one coat of the paint brush or eraser. All the Google explanations refer to the smart brush which I can't seem to find. Perhaps its no longer in CS6?
I'm using a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.8 & PS CS6.
This happened to my eraser tool ... somehow all of my round brushes have turned to hard brushes.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhaving problems with photoshop 5.5... new issue for me, as there weren't any issues yesterday. both the 'healing brush tool' and the 'clone stamp tool' are giving problems. when i press the alt key to collect an area to sample, on my screen it looks as tho the hand tool engages, and there is a second (copy looking) image moving around my screen over the original. i've already tried the 'tool reset all' function and rebooted... still haveing the same issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my CS2 has started to act up. First, after opening a file and start to do a background erasing, the brush shows up as crosshairs.
after a brief time of working with those limitations, when I click on the downdown menus, they get highlighted, but nothing drops down. If I try to close the file or the program, all I get is a warning "ding".
I just got my nice new Wacom Connect and have been having fun getting used to it.The issues I'm having is that I can't seem to use the clone stamp tool or the healing brush all that well with it.

the circle that outlines the size of the brush has disappeared, so all i have is the little + sign.
i tried cntr+alt+shft at start to reset it, but its still the same.
When using the Healing Brush tool in Normal mode, the opacity of the cloned pixels when painted onto the same layer as the source pixels will usually be decreased to blend better, BUT if the cloned pixels are painted onto a separate layer (to work non-destructively) the tool will NOT decrease opacity and the Healing Brush will work more like (if not exactly like) the Clone Stamp - true??
View 2 Replies View RelatedBoth of subject tools often 'go wild' on me when I am working on an image. Either tool will race across an image in a straight line and leave either a cloning or spotting mark [straight line]. I suspect this has something to do with insufficient memory. However I have 4 GB RAM and am not running any other big program while doing the cloning/spotting. Even if I 'give it some rest' this strange behavior will continue. Any help would be greatly appreciated! christian ps. Attached is a tiny sample, circled in red.

A strange squggly line around the brush and some strange visible area appearing under the brush itself whenever you move it anywhere. I don't mind changes but it seems like things get changed just for the sake of changeing them.

I am creating a logo for my company and wanted to "cut" an object in half and place a saw blade in the middle (to give to appearance that it was cut). I thought about duplicating the layers, placing them apart and using the eraser or brush to give a jagged look?

As pointed out in the thread subject line, both the clone stamp tool and healing brush are not working for me in Photo Elements 7.When I am attempting to use it, I get the message: "Could not use clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined". Well, this is not the case since I did define it with command Alt + left mouse click.
Background:Photo Elements 7 is installed in Windows XP Professional SP3. The latter runs as a virtual O/S with Sun VirtualBox on host SuSE Linux 11.1 (Gnome).
I have been using the clone stamp tool for a few weeks without any problems, but a few days ago the outline of the brush disappeared. I can still clone an area and replace the undesired area, however, I can't see the exact area that will be affected because the black circle that showed the brush size is now invisible.

When I use any of the brush, dodge, burn or other similar tools the brush starts to disappear as I enlarge it eventually disappearing. Even though this happens the tool still works even though most of the circle around the brush area is missing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have photoshop CS6. The eraser and brush tool is not working properly. I get a small dot on the page irrespective of the size of the eraser or brush that I select. Also I'm not sure if this is a feature of CS6. I've produced a graphic that involves a large number of layers, on past versions of photoshop if I needed to edit a layer I would select that layer and go to it on the page and edit it. On CS6 after I select the layer when I put my cursor anywhere on the page it would automatically select the layer that I am touching, which is similar to Coreldraw or Illustrator.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have photoshop CS4 running with NVIDIA graphics cards on both my desktop PC and Laptop running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. When I use any of the brush, erase, etc tools as the brush enlarges it slowly starts to disappear. When the tool is very large it totally disappears. I was given a suggestion earlier in this forum to update the NVIDIA drivers which I did and this fixed the problem until I had to uninstall photoshop and reinstall it. Now I have the problem back again and can't seem to fix it. I tried reinstalling the drivers but this did not help.
With regard to my laptop I am using a newish Hewlett Packard Mobile Workstation model Compaq 5810w. I have tried to update the drivers for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M card but the NVIDIA websites says that for laptops the drivers are supplied by the manufactuer of the laptop - I have tried HP.
is there a way to erase (like with eraser tool) the artistic media brush strokes ?
eraser tool works on every draw/shape/stroke but the artistic media tools. is there a workaround?
When I try and use a round brush with 100% hardness, there is still significant dropoff in density from the center to the outside of the brush. Both the brush and layer are on "normal" mode. I've reset the brush tools. I've deleted the preference files for PSE10. What other settings should I be checking? I know that "brush flow" doesn't show up as a menu item in PSE10, but you can change it with keystrokes. I've messed with that and you can see the darkness of the brush change in the dropdown - I've set that to the "00" setting [shift-apple, ##], which I believe puts it to 100.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI must have fat fingered something and I now when I click on the Eraser Tool or the Brush Mask Tool instead of getting a circle or square, I get and icon of the tool instead. They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the brush, eraser, or any other similar tool in Photoshop CS5, and use the [ or ] key to change the brush size, Photoshop will more often than not switch back to the previous tool I was using. The same thing will sometimes happen when I use 0-9 to change the opacity. It's a bit annoying and totally arbitrary when it happens, is there any way to turn this function off?
Similarly, pressing "e" to use the eraser tool will sometimes pull down the edit menu. I thought maybe there might be a correlation between pressing and holding the key, but it seems to be completely random. It will usually happen at least 20-30 times off and on while I'm working. My housemate never seems to encounter these problems in her version of Photoshop; I'm not sure if it's CS5 or CS6 she's using.
Photoshop 7. Clone tool (etal) won't work. I've verified I am in RGB mode, and the 'Aligned' box is unchecked. Since the background layer is locked, I duplicated the background and tried working in the unlocked layer. Still no luck. These tools were working fine before, and sometimes when I open PS they do. Other times, like now, they are inaccessible.
