I have searched google, PDN, and hades for a solution.
I am fairly new to PDN but love it so far.
I am creating a logo for my company and wanted to "cut" an object in half and place a saw blade in the middle (to give to appearance that it was cut). I thought about duplicating the layers, placing them apart and using the eraser or brush to give a jagged look?

I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAll brushes have been reset and are set the same. We are running CS5.5 Master Edition on a brand new 27" iMac 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core using a Radeon AMD HD6970M.
This is a sample of how the tool is not using the entire diameter. This could be either erasing or painting a color.
Comparing X3 and X4 ...
Is there no way to use the eraser (or delete selections) on adjustment layers? I do/did this routinely in X3. I have missed some sort of configuration setting in X4!?
I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).
I must have fat fingered something and I now when I click on the Eraser Tool or the Brush Mask Tool instead of getting a circle or square, I get and icon of the tool instead. They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.

i'm using cs6.the picture i'm working with was enlarged to 400%.the brush, stamp brush tool was at size: 12px, hardness 100%.opacity 100%
in the presettings i saw the brush was set to normal size.also i played with the jitter sizes, to no avail.
I found an old thread from 2011 about the same problem and the mod reported it to the devs, but as far as I know no solution has ever been offered.(maybe in cs6? we are still using cs5)For one or two layers it's no problem to do it manually, but with say 40 layers with corresponding linked layers we need a better solution.

I could either duplicate it in the same .psd, or I could duplicate it into a new file. I've tried restarting, I've checked for updates...

View 14 Replies View Relatedthis worked until yesterday. I didn't install any software on the pc or change any settings that I can think of. I'm using photoshop cs2. I've rebooted the computer several times and I've quit/restarted photoshop several times.
when I create an adjustment layer, I cannot paint black in the mask area. I can fill with black and paint white. if, after filling black and painting white, I press D (to swap foreground/background colors), I can paint, a paintbrush thing shows up in the history, but it won't change. if I press D again, and paint some more white, it shows up in white. likewise, if I choose black another way (eyedropper, setting rgb to 0,0,0), it behaves the same. likewise, if I don't start out by filling black, and I just try to paint black on the white mask, it behaves the same (doesn't work).
if I create a new layer, I can paint black on it. If I switch to the pencil tool rather than the brush tool, I can pencil black into my adjustment layer masks.
any suggestions?

I've recently started creating brushes to share/sell. I scan vintage documents to create brush sets. As the vintage documents often have fading text/illustrations on yellowed backgrounds, I have to really up the contrast. I usually use levels rather than threshold as I prefer the control I get with levels.
Anyway, sometimes the result looks rather jagged. I'm working from high resolution scans.I've noticed if I apply a .3 Gaussian Blur it smooths things out a bit. Does this look normal for a brush?

In my previous version of Elements, I was able to duplicate a layer (which was a picture) and then drag and drop a new picture into that layer. How can I do this with Elements 12, since the drag and drop option doesn't work?
I am using this for a "scrapbook" photo page, where there are multiple photos and text on the page.
For some reason photoshop at times will only let me erase or draw within the confines of a specific layer. It seems to happen randomly without me accidently hitting a hotkey of some sort.
For instance in the image below, I was drawing and randomly I noticed I could no longer draw. It would only let me use the brush/erase tool within the confines of the line work I had already established. The only way I have been able to correct this so far is to completely restart photoshop.
what I'm trying to do is make a selection and, with either the paintbrush or eraser, put a single coat of the selected brush texture on that entire selection.
I've downloaded some really great brush sets and I want to apply one of them to the whole canvas as if I've painstakingly gone over the whole canvas and applied one coat of the paint brush or eraser. All the Google explanations refer to the smart brush which I can't seem to find. Perhaps its no longer in CS6?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is an intended feature of PS, but I have relied on it heavily in the past and now I can't get it to work any more!
Basically, when optimising photos, I will make an adjustment layer, levels, curves, whatever, which will globally alter the image.
I forget why I tried, but I found that using the eraser to erase parts of the adjustment layer would reveal the original state beneath, enabling me to make subtle tonal adjustments by feel. Sure there are many ways to achieve similar results with layer masks, history brush, whatever, but this method suits my way of working and is so simple.
Problem is, it won't work any more - nothing to do with updating PS as I have been using CS since it came out.
Messing with layer masks has sometimes brought this feature back, sometimes not, but unfortunately only temporarily and I can't work out what I did anyway!! When it does work, you can see the erased parts in the layer thumbnail and of course in the history palette, but when it won't, you still see the erase step in the palette, but nothing happens to the image.
from a satellite image cut OUT and discard the lake surface with intent to use the remainder as a 'layer' to over-lay a created image underneath...
I suspect this is quite simple...but trying various permutations of the question via 'Help' has so far not allowed me to unlock the secrets...
Suddenly my CS2 has started to act up. First, after opening a file and start to do a background erasing, the brush shows up as crosshairs.
after a brief time of working with those limitations, when I click on the downdown menus, they get highlighted, but nothing drops down. If I try to close the file or the program, all I get is a warning "ding".
Does PS11 give full support to 16bit per channel layers. what additional layer features does CS6 provide?

the circle that outlines the size of the brush has disappeared, so all i have is the little + sign.
i tried cntr+alt+shft at start to reset it, but its still the same.

Can there be an square eraser ? Sometimes, when I do erase, being that its circular, doesn't matter the size, its harder for me to edge out the straight lines, especially the corners, leaving me with a "dent" in the pic.
