Lightroom :: Automatic Updating Of Files?
May 9, 2013I am early in my learning curve on Lightroom. I understand that changes are not automatically applied to an image file but rather kept in a Lightroom database to preserve the original (non destructive). However, that is not a goal of mine. After making changes to a file or adding keywords, I want Lightroom to automatically update the actual files (in my case jpegs) so that I do not need to export them to be used elsewhere such as in a slideshows etc. I have found settings that imply the "metadata" is or can be updated, but I do not know if that is the "develop" changes I made or the keywords or if I need to do that every time before I close lightroom. Right now, I do an export of my entire folder of 20,000 images after each session where I make changes and then I use that export as a source for my automatic backup programs and supplies a continuous slideshow on another machine.
Maybe another way to say it is: after making changes and closing Lightroom, I want to be able to take an image from "My Pictures" folder (which contains all my images) and know it has the latest changes made and the latest keywords embedded. I do not want to have to export these files. first.

May 24, 2013My Lightroom 4 catalogue is now automatically updating my DNGs from Process 2010 to 2012 when I open the folder in Library. The Update Dialog box does not open. I do not want this to happen automatically, but cannot find a preference or setting to control this.

Aug 14, 2011I have a bunch of bmp files that I made by scanning old 35mm slides. Photoshop opens them with no problem, lets me modify and save. Lightroom can't see them (NO photos found). LR does see tiffs made from the same bmp files. Do I take away from this that LR cannot deal with bmp files, or (I hope) am I just missing something basic?

AutoCad :: Layout Tabs Not Updating When Opening Additional Drawings
Apr 12, 2013For the past 2 days when I switch from one drawing to another, my layout tabs are not updating and stay the same as the previous drawings. I have to do a regen to get the proper tabs in place. All the layouts are there...it is just the tabs that are messed up. Once I click on one of the tabs they straighten themselves out as well, but on that first selection I never get the correct drawing that I want!

May 3, 2012I upgraded from LR2 to 3 a while ago, and recently, I've had an odd problem opening my lightly edited files into CS4. I just do command E on my mac, and they open right into CS4. When the image(s) open, they almost seem completely desaturated? I shoot a nikon D700, raw, copy the NEF files into LR3 upon import, do light edits in LR (white balance, recovery, tone curve, some adjustment brush...) and then will open selected files into CS4 for futher tweaking. Why these images are doing this? If I go back into lightroom and "reset all settings" and then open, the images open fine.

I'm currently running version 3.6 of lightroom and 11.0.2 of CS4

Jun 15, 2012Every time I open a RAW file into Photoshop CS5 from LR3, it automatically creates and saves a PSD or TIFF file. Is there a way to stop lightroom from doing this? When I used LR2, I saved these files only if I choose to. I always convert my files to jpg after I'm done editing in PS and don't need these huge files hanging around.

Mar 26, 2013I have loads of dwgs made by a former employee at another site that have our company logo in the tile block. I need to replace the company logo with a new one. If it were not made from a dwt, I could change the .dwg file and just reinsert the block and let it redefine the block, done. But since all of the text in each drawing was input using a template, I cannot do this without losing all of that data. We are not permitted to explode the title block, delete the old logo & add a new one as the drawing format needs to remain as one entity. Is there a way to automatically update these dwgs without re-entering all of the title/revision block text on every drawing?

Illustrator :: Linked PSD Files Not Found When Opening AI Files Via Shared Folder
Mar 17, 2013My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files.The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files.

Those keywords are highlighted in keyword set 2] select next image 3] wait about 4 to 5 seconds for highlighted keywords to be non highlighted.he problem with this, is that yo cannot use the keyword set to apply these keywords to the newly selected image until they are not highlighted any more.

Oct 8, 2012I have two monitors and I use one monitor to show the second window. In 4.2 (definitely did not happen in 4.1):
When I crop an image in the main window, the second window doesn't show the crop. It shows if I close the crop command, or even if I move the mouse to invoke the preset window and then move back to the crop. I also have the same kind of issue when I use the adjustment brush. Is there a new setting that controls this behaviour? I can't find anything. I'm on Win 7 64-bit.
Lightroom :: Metadata Badges Not Updating In Library
Jan 7, 2012I have numbers of images with the badge that says 'metadat files need to be updated' I save but the badge remains. I have saved repeatedly, no change. I quit and reopened, no change. I opened the image in the finder - the image looks like an unprocessed CR2 but if I open in PSCS5 the processing changes are shown.

Lightroom :: Folder Image Counts In 4.1 Not Updating
Jun 19, 2012LR Version Running: v4.1 Catalog Size: 27176 images spreadout over approximately 150 folders
Primary Problem: The image counts represented on folders in LR are not reflecting accurate counts until I run "Synchronize Folder" option. This occurs on a fairly frequent basis and in a number of cases I can reproduce the problem.
History: This missing of images in a folder has been plaguing me since the initial release of LR. During that time I opened a case and Adobe Technical Support who took over my desktop and were also able to reproduce the problem. They had no fix but said that it was a software bug and would be corrected in a subsequent release. I am now on LR 4.1 and it still is present.
Specific Examples:
1) I will go to a folder looking for an image that I know at one time was visible in LR but now it no longer is there. So, I search for it using LR on such attributes as filename or keywords without success. I then open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder and there it is. I can even right-click on the file name and open it up in Adobe Photoshop. I don't like going that route because I lose any adjustments I may have applied in LR. So my solution has been to right-click on the folder of the file that is missing the image(s) and select "synchronize folder". I am then presented with a dialog box that displays the number of missing (that LR calls"new") photos. Next, I click on the "Synchronize" button in which I am then presented with the import screen and shown the missing images. I then click on "Import" button and when the updating process is finished the folder Count is now correct and image shows up in the folder.
2) I can reproduce this behavior every time when I open an image in PS from LR, duplicate it, convert the duplicate to Black & White (Image-->Adjustments-->"Black & White"), apply an action to reduce the file size and change the color space, and then save it as a jpeg in a folder called "web" sitting under the original source folder. After saving it the count on the folder does not change, at least not until I go through the "Synchronize Folder" process. Ironically, if I now go to the original color image that the B&W was duplicated from and convert and save it as a jpeg to the same folder the folder updates immediately.
3) After importing a large number of images from a photo session into LR (via a card reader) I will delete the unwanted images, assign a subject specific naming convention to the remaining ones, attach keywords, and then use the export function to transfer them to their various subject related folders for long-term storage. Since missing images has been a long-standing problem for me, out of paranoia I will go to the folders to verify that the images are present For example, recently I exported 50 images to a folder and then went to it to verify all the images transferred correctly. I was unable to find five of the images. After running "Synchronize Folder" the folder amount was updated in the images appeared in the folder. All of files in this case were Canon RAW (CR2).
Lightroom :: Updating / Sharing Keywords And Metadata In 4?
May 6, 2013add keywords & metadata to an extremely large group of photos in Lightroom 4. The intern will have their own workstation so we'll be passing files back and forth. I need to add their work to mine, keeping all of the keyword/metadata work tied to the virtual photos which already have some work done to them (some keywords, metatdata and photo enhancements already in place on some photos).
