Lightroom :: Freezes Within 15 Minutes Of Activity And Process Cannot End

Apr 28, 2013

Some time ago Lightroom started freezing, it didn't matter too much what screen was involved. I'd be editing a photo or even doing something outside of lightroom and lightroom would become unresponsive and wouldn't display the current image etc.

It would allow you to close it, however the process would stay open in the task manager. No matter how one tries to close the tree or process, it totally ignores these requests and requires a reboot to resume work. This also happens while using photoshop with lightroom open - the two programs freezing in tandem.

I have tried doing memory checks on the drive with no problem showing, I have run registry cleaning / ccleaner and so on. There is no spyware or viruses operating. The reliability monitor does not show these crashes. I am unaware of anything that was installed or uninstalled or when this specifically started happening.

There have been a few driver power state failure blue screens while using lightroom (although nowhere near as many as the simple freezes). Unable to diagnose the problem with this I uninstalled and reinstalled lightroom. I have tried both 4.4 and the new 5 in the hope that maybe something was fixed. My display drivers I am pretty sure are up to date also.

Lightroom :: Import Images - Import Module Freezes For A Few Minutes?

Mar 13, 2012

I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.

I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.

System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.

Photoshop :: Quick Selection Tool Freezes CS6 / Becomes Unresponsive For Minutes

Feb 24, 2013

After only two selections the tool becomes unresponsive for minutes.

I'm on a 2.6 Ghz retina MacBook Pro, 16 Gb RAM, and this in connection with an SSD should make this tool very good to use. Operating system: OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion", latest update.

Unfortunately, it seems to develop some kind of overload, during which you cannot use Photoshop at all. No commands like "undo selection", "quit", "close file" are accepted.

Hint: it seems to happen when you option select (subtract from an existing selection).

Hint: the freeze can be shortened by a tool switch (has to be through clicking on a tool, keyboard commands are frozen as well)

Hint: the "subtract selection" move that caused the freeze appears after Photoshop comes back to life after a couple of minutes. The subtraction to the selection seems to be random, makes no sense, and is not the regular function of the tool.

First step after this freeze would be to undo the last selection, and continue working. If you do several "add to selection" moves, they add up in a kind of waiting line. If you do the subtract from selection move, this doesn't work, and the freeze happens.

So far, I have not noticed the freeze when adding to a selection. Adding to a selection was always quick and instant. The bug must sit in the "subtract from selection" code.On most freezes, the ants continue walking, I just had one (again with subtracting selection) where even the ants stopped walking.

I don't think it has anything to do with Photoshop working. I have used the quick selection tool regularly under CS5 on my old machine (which was a museum piece), and while I had to wait sometimes, it was never ground to a freeze/halt like the quick selection tool under CS6.

Lightroom :: Way To View Detailed Progress Activity In 4?

Dec 1, 2012

When I'm doing a large import, all I can see is the little white progress bar in the upper left. Since it sometimes gets hung up on an operation, it doesn't provide enough feedback about the processes.

I'd prefer to be able to double click that and see a full activity report in a new window of what is getting imported as it's happening, with a separate progress bar for each item. I'd like to see this for all other actions as well, but importing would be my priority.I requesting a new feature? I'm running Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 RC [858820].

GIMP :: Streamline Daily Activity Processing Photos

Apr 10, 2011

I'm trying to streamline a daily activity processing photos with Gimp by using incrontab (which makes it when you add files to a directory, it will automatically run a program to deal with the event). I have a python-fu script that I need to run after selecting four corners of what will be new photos.

It will run itself on all images open in gimp which reduces my keystrokes or mouse clicks. The problem I'm having is that when I put four photos into the processing directory, incron opens four instances of gimp instead of opening gimp once and adding each photo to its open images. I'm using Ubuntu Linux. I'd really like to make the same instance of gimp open the photos, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Lightroom :: 5 Develop Presets Disappear After Few Minutes In Windows 8

Aug 30, 2013

I'm finding that my presets are disappearing a few minutes after launching the program. I checked and have installed my presets in the proper folder where it would look for them. I see them when I grab the handle on the left and everything drags up or down. But I begin to two finger drag up and down, the handle on the left stays put and the presets drag up out of sight and a large, blank gap appears below. I've also had it where the presets have disappeared and have had to relaunch LR5 to get them back.

Lightroom :: 4.1 - Still Takes 10 Minutes To Import Pictures If AVI Involved

Mar 30, 2012

Also with LR4.1 the problem with avis (Canon Powershot Ixus 95IS) is not yet solved onm my system (AMD 6 Core, Win7 64Bit, 8GB RAM, ATI HD 5770 graphics card).

AVIs don't play when I want to start them in my LR3 converted catalog. Importing avis in a new catalog doesn't work at all. But the worst thing is, if you try to import pictures in a catalog already containing avis (or if there any avi is present in a folder you want to synchronize) it takes 10 minutes. The processes dynamiclinkmanager and dynamiclinkmediaserver are blocking the import for several minutes.

Lightroom :: Importing Of Pictures Takes 10 Minutes If Videos Are In Sub-directory?

Mar 11, 2012

My system:

- AMD 6 core CPU
- 8GB Ram
- Win 7 64bit
- AMD Radeon HD5770 graphic card.

LR4 takes 10 minutes or more to import 3 pictures. Importing these pictures in LR3 takes a few seconds.I did some checks: Using a new catalog (and not the converted one) and importing a sub folder of my picture directory has no effect. It takes also very long.

Importing a sub folder without videos is fast! But even if the videos are already imported (because of using the LR3 converted catalog), when adding new pictures to a subfolder it takes again 10 minutes. Importing videos in a fresh catalog does not work at all (they are only available if you convert the LR3 catalog) (Canon Powershot Ixus S95)

I have also a problem with playing (the LR3 catalog converted) videos. The video control bar does not react. After some minutes there is an error message that there was an error trying to work with the picture.

Illustrator :: CS6 - Converting PMS To Process For Files To Be Printed 4 Color Process

Oct 4, 2012

How the PMS color palettes "simulate" on screen how the color will print on different substrates (glossy vs matte vs uncoated paper). That's great for comps, but if you convert it to CMYK to print it, and the values are representing a "simulated" color it won't look correct (by that I mean come close to matching the spot color). For example, the uncoated palette simulates the color by making them appear a bit washed out on screen - pretty good visual simulation. But it might do so by adding black and cyan to orange for example, etc. - effectively dulling the original color.

So if I convert that to CMYK within the new Pantone + color palette, and then send it to the printer - it won't appear as it did on screen, it will dull the end color even more because it's converted the color to the dull simulated version - what a disaster! It's only doing half the job - showing us what it should look like on screen. In order to be truly efficient for design professionals the CMYK conversion might remove black and cyan completely to effectively brighten the color in the final output on uncoated paper. I would prefer it just stick to the standard conversion, which Pantone did have as a standard palette option (PMS to process), and then I can adjust if I think it's necessary.

Any corporate branding system will likely start with a PMS spot color palette for the identity. Then it will build into many different adaptations - full color brochures, large format banners and trade show graphics, website, advertising. So any corporate branding system will need to have PMS, CMYK and RGB versions of their main corporate color palette. There was a standard for these translations that was automatically consistent in the Adobe software and that is now all over the place, so it relies on individuals manually adapting the color mixes for final use - what a great way to screw things up.

Lightroom :: 3.6 X64 Freezes In Import?

Aug 10, 2012

This is a new phenomenon, and we've been using LR for more than a year without issue.

we are running LR 3.6, 64 bit version, on Windows 7 home edition SP1 (x64)

6GB memory, 800GB disk free on C:

In the import dialogue, when you click on a device from which to import, the "busy" indicator comes on and never stops, but no progress is made to returning control to the user so you can make your other selections within the import dialogue. This started happening last week, and I rebooted the computer and it went away. It's back now and is not responding to rebooting.

I have tried uninstalling LR and reinstalling, and I've tried deleting the preferences file, with no luck on either. I don't know what to do next.

Lightroom :: 3 - Freezes On Slideshow Export

Feb 16, 2012

I'm having a problem exporting slides to video using the Slideshow tab in Lightroom 3. I have a folder of images that I am trying to export to video. The folder contains 290 or so images. I have successfully exported folders with more and less images before, so I know that the number of images is not the problem.

When I export the folder of images to video, Lightroom will consistently freeze on the last frame and refuse to do any more work or complete the action. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to this occuring, as I have closed all other programs to free up as much memory as possible, rebooted my machine, and restarted Lightroom. I have used identical settings to export other folders with success. FWIW, this same bug affects LR4 beta.

I'm using a Macbook Pro with a 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM.

Lightroom :: Adobe DNG Converter 6.4 To Process

Jun 26, 2012

I have a Nikon D7k which I have been shooting in RAW and converting using Adobe DNG converter 6.4 to process in Lightroom 2. (I have a G4 (PPC) Mac with OS 10.5.8. LR2 is the last version this Mac can run.) The converted files look rather poor and require substantial effort to achieve an acceptable result in LR. JPEGs look much better out-of-the-camera. I looked at some of the RAW files in Nikon ViewNX2 and they looked much, much better. Unfortunately, there is some sort of color space conflict with LR2 which I have been unable to resolve.

Any way other than shooting in JPEG, which I am presently doing, until such time as I get a new computer which will run the latest versions of LR and PS?

Lightroom :: 4 Import Process Is Hanging?

May 30, 2012

I just downloaded the trial of Lightroom 4 to see if it's a better fit for me than Picasa.

I have all my images ordered by Date on an external NAS device.
So...

z:/photos/1999
.../2000
.../2001
......../2001/2001_01_01 New Years Day (for example).

I only started shooting in RAW this year. When I shoot in RAW, I have a subfolder called RAW. I then process the raws to JPG using Photoshop batch processor and place them in teh root of the folder.

So I will have a structure like :

2010_05_04
img_1.jpg
img_2.jpg

and then in 2010_05_04/RAW
img_1.cr2
img_2.cr2 .. etc.

I installed lightroom and went to import the pictures. I have (according to Picasa) 24,295 photos image files. these are all either JPG, RAW (cr2), or .AVI or .MOV. THe vast majority are images.

LIghtroom is hanging on 11,622.

I'm not sure why. It isn't even picking up certain date folders at all (like 2012, 2006, or 2007).

I tried cancelling the import process (hitting the X) and then starting again but it still continues to hang.

Lightroom :: ACR Process 12 Adjustments To DNG Compatible With 3.6?

Mar 7, 2013

I am using Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 3.6.  If I open an NEF problem image from my D600 in the new ACR in order to take advantage of the extra power of Process 2012, "develop" it, and then save it as a new DNG file (version 6.6 or older), will ACR "render" the adjustments to the image so that the new DNG will have the changes made to the underlying data so that they will appear when the DNG opened in Lightroom 3.6?  At which point the file is available for cropping, exporting, or other adjustments?

I am forced to use Windows XP.  I have no choice in the matter for the forseeable future, yet the power and simplicity of Lightroom is too compelling to give up.
