Apr 3, 2013When I click the Type tool the program freezes for about 5 minutes. What to do?

View 5 RepliesAfter only two selections the tool becomes unresponsive for minutes.
Â
I'm on a 2.6 Ghz retina MacBook Pro, 16 Gb RAM, and this in connection with an SSD should make this tool very good to use. Operating system: OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion", latest update.
Â
Unfortunately, it seems to develop some kind of overload, during which you cannot use Photoshop at all. No commands like "undo selection", "quit", "close file" are accepted.Â
Â
Hint: it seems to happen when you option select (subtract from an existing selection).
Â
Hint: the freeze can be shortened by a tool switch (has to be through clicking on a tool, keyboard commands are frozen as well)
Â
Hint: the "subtract selection" move that caused the freeze appears after Photoshop comes back to life after a couple of minutes. The subtraction to the selection seems to be random, makes no sense, and is not the regular function of the tool.
Â
First step after this freeze would be to undo the last selection, and continue working. If you do several "add to selection" moves, they add up in a kind of waiting line. If you do the subtract from selection move, this doesn't work, and the freeze happens.
Â
So far, I have not noticed the freeze when adding to a selection. Adding to a selection was always quick and instant. The bug must sit in the "subtract from selection" code.On most freezes, the ants continue walking, I just had one (again with subtracting selection) where even the ants stopped walking.
Â
I don't think it has anything to do with Photoshop working. I have used the quick selection tool regularly under CS5 on my old machine (which was a museum piece), and while I had to wait sometimes, it was never ground to a freeze/halt like the quick selection tool under CS6.
My Photoshop Elements freezes up after 30 seconds to 3 minutes of use. What can I do to fix this?

The moment I starts the Photoshop, my machine freezes for 2-3 mins, disk usgae shooting to 100%. I have tried every steps to optimise my windows as well as photoshop. But the problem remains still.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome time ago Lightroom started freezing, it didn't matter too much what screen was involved. I'd be editing a photo or even doing something outside of lightroom and lightroom would become unresponsive and wouldn't display the current image etc.
Â
It would allow you to close it, however the process would stay open in the task manager. No matter how one tries to close the tree or process, it totally ignores these requests and requires a reboot to resume work. This also happens while using photoshop with lightroom open - the two programs freezing in tandem.
Â
I have tried doing memory checks on the drive with no problem showing, I have run registry cleaning / ccleaner and so on. There is no spyware or viruses operating. The reliability monitor does not show these crashes. I am unaware of anything that was installed or uninstalled or when this specifically started happening.
Â
There have been a few driver power state failure blue screens while using lightroom (although nowhere near as many as the simple freezes). Unable to diagnose the problem with this I uninstalled and reinstalled lightroom. I have tried both 4.4 and the new 5 in the hope that maybe something was fixed. My display drivers I am pretty sure are up to date also.

I am working in Photoshop Elements 11 on a Mac. Every time I use the text tool, the program freezes and I have to force quit. I read this might have something to do with a font problem. I have deleted fonts that came on the Mac and also downloaded other fonts.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
Â
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.

Problems with Type Tool in lowercase using CS5 OK with Elements, WHY? I have tried uninstalling CS5 and reinstalling the programme without success.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter using the type tool on my photograph I am unable to save it in a folder on my desk top. It is saved with the PSE blue logo and I am unable to see the photo with the type tool with my name on the photograph. All I see is the blue PSE logo in the folder.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using PSE9 for a couple of years successfully. I use the horizontal type tool in Edit to put details on my photographs. Today the function has stopped; I have de-installed and re-installed my original programme but the same result - nothing. I can select the horizontal type tool and set the cursor; but nothing appears as I type. A layer does appear and when it is clicked you can see the text that I have typed but it simply doesn't get onto the photograph any more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using PSE 12 on a Mac. When I try to edit psd projects created with PSE 10, the type tool freezes. It's so bad, I've had to go back and use PSE 10 to edit these projects. Is this is a bug that needs to be addressed in a future update? Had I known this, I would have NEVER purchased the upgrade to PSE 12. .

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

Installed Elements 10 on Win 7 64 bit laptop that is plenty powerful.Created a shortcut to launch Elements directly from the directory it installed in. It can take several minutes to open, if it does. Have tried Run as Admin, no difference. Sometimes nothing happens and I have to try several times to get it open. Once open I went to Preferences and turned off all Media Analysis, and all Third Party things and anything else that might be slowing it. Only imported about 50 files into the album, and it still takes so long to open I can't tell it is even trying.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWorking on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
Â
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software twice at the recomendation of a tech rep, changed preferences, deleted preferences, turned over my screen to a rep and still have the same problem.
View 1 Replies View Relatedthe type tool won't let me insert any type whatsoever in JPG or PSD files. I click the type tool and then click somewhere on the image and all it gives me is a dot but no flashing cursor. As I said, resetting my prefs/settings while starting up Photoshop did not help. Another weird thing it does is that when I go to Canvas Size for a medium sized image, it says that the width is 588 inches and the height is 288 inches.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat is happening is whenever I use any transform tool in Photoshop it will freeze, the window won't go white like frozen windows normally do in W7 but it'll just sit there being completely unresponsive to clicks. The only way to quit is to go into the task manager. The other notable thing is whenever this happens I can't just restart Photoshop, I have to restart Windows completely! it even screws over other Adobe software, Dreamweaver won't work either once this error has occured.
Â
Not only that but OpenGL never works anymore either, I can use Photoshop for like thirty minutes before OpenGL stops working. This one's obviously less intrusive but I still enjoy having the OpenGL features on.
Â
The only other symptom I can think of is that once the issues start happening (or just before they're about to happen) the cursor will dart very quickly all over the screen. The actual clicks themselves will still happen in the right location but the visual cursor itself will constantly be moving, like half of the time it'll be in its right spot, the other half it'll be in a random position. I've tried unplugging both the tablet and the keyboard/mouse reciever but it still darts everywhere.
Â
Everything else on the computer works fine, it's just Adobe software playing up.
Â
I have tried:
- Adjusting performance options thoroughly
- Disabling graphic card features
- Reinstalling CS6
- Switching to 32 bit CS6
- Reverting back to CS5/CS3 (it still happens on those ones too)
- Trying four different versions of video drivers (320.18, 314.22, 310.70, 306.23)
- Reinstalling Windows 7

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to make a color range selection to use as an adjustment mask. Each time I make the selection the dialog box freezes, I can not exit the dialog, or cancel the save options are available but even after saving can not exit dialog box. Also the menu "Select" "Save Selection" option does not work.
Â
I end up having to close the program using Windows Task Manager. I am running Windows 7, CS6 13.01 I have tried this in both the 64 and 32 bit versions of CS6. Oddly if while in the Color Range selection Dialog intermittently if you only make one sample with the dropper tool you can exit the dialog with the selection in tact, but not always.
I find that CS6 frequently feezes when I try to use the lasso tool to add to (or subtract from) and existing, complex, selection. Any fix for this? am running the most recent CS6 on a MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and ~250GB of free hard disk space.
