Lightroom :: Reinstalling Version 4 Creates A New Catalog
Jan 17, 2013
I've just had to re-install Lr4 - with serial numbers etc - because of a switch to Windows 8. It has however created a new (empty) catalog, whereas I still want to use the existing one with all of my edits on it. Do I now have to work with two separate catalog, or can I somehow move everything to this one? Obviously I don't work with catalog much.
When I attempt to import photos into an existing folder LR creates a duplicate folder with the same name. The original folder (orange) does not show the imported photos, when I try to move the photos from the duplicate folder (red) over I receive the error message "files already exist in this destination."Â Â My lightroom hardrive folder appears correctly, no duplicate folder. Also, on import I am only renaming the files, a sub-folder is not created.
I just added a SSD drive to my computer and reloaded all software including Windows 7 and Photoshop Elements 11 onto this new system drive. I did not make a separate backup of the Organizer Catalog beforehand, however the catalog is stil on the hard drive, now to be used as a data drive. How can I recover this catalog?
I upgraded to LR3 but notice that in the window title bar in the LR window, it says Lightroom 2 Catalog-2-2.lrcat. I a wondering if I did something wrong during installation. The programme seems to be working fine but my LR book indicates that when installing an upgrade, the catalog will be upgraded too.Â
My external hard drive recently crashed and now I am trying to restore my Lightroom catalogs. When I try to open the most recent back-up, I keep getting a message stating the catalog is too new for the current version of Lightroom. I have not done anything to my most recent version of LR.Â
I've been using the same computer for 7 years and have had many and struggles reinstalling the operating system and all my software from time to time. Today, the struggle is with reinstalling Photoshop CS4.
- I just installed Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.
- I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 but every time at launch it says: ...
I had a computer crash and burn. My hard drive was ok, I have a new computer and have rearranged all my photos on the new hard drive. I need to start fresh with Lightroom but when I reinstall the software it auto loads the catalogs. I have about 7000 photos and its a big job but I have to do it. Can I reload Lightroom and not the catalogs?  Also, If I delete all metadata and previews associated with my pictures will this also delete all editing of my photos or will that just get rid of the Catalogs?
Until last week I had no problems importing, playing or editing Canon 60D RAW or MOV videos in Lightroom 5. Since then, ever time I tried to import MOV videos LR5 crashed and needed to be restared - but is now 'permanently' crashed (see below). I tried the following to overcome the issue, without success: Unistalled and reinstalled LR 5Updated video card driverInstalled QuicktimeOS (Win 8 Pro, 64 bit) up-to-dateUpdated monitor driver. My last attempt to overcome the issue involved disabling all LR5 plug-ins. I then tried to import a video file to see if that fixed the problem. LR5 again crashed, but this time it it appears to have crashed 'permanently' because when I try to reload LR 5 it gets as far as the LR screen, tries to load 'previous import' into 'Library' and then immediately crashes, i.e. I can't get into LR at all to try any other possible 'fixes'. I am now totally locked out of LR 5 because even after uninstalling and reinstalling LR it continues to crash immediately when I try to open it.  Other info that may assist resolving the problem includes: The video files that can't be imported seem OK - I can play them through Windows Media Player and Quicktime.DivX not installed. Installed a new video card (Gigabyte GT610) and installed the latest driver from the Gigabyte website. I don't know if it's coincidental, but the new video card and monitor were installed before the problem arose. CPU is an i5 - 3550, 8Gb RAM (+-5Gb available), LR5 stored on 120Gb SSD with 8.3Gb free, photo/video files stored on a 680Gb HD partition with 55Gb free.Â
I accidentally deleted my backup file from the folder that light room created in my folder. I have it backed up in my Time Machine but I can't find a way to ask light room to look at it again. I can put it back in to its place but light room isn't seeing it or I just can't figure out away to ask light room to see it again.
I had to reinstall LR4. How do I locate and load previous raw edits? Here's what I've tried: Â Under the Library Module, right click on "All Photographs" under CatalogsClick on "Import From Another Catalog"Found my old Lightroom Catalog and added it.This brought in a few thousand images, but not what I was specifically looking for
I had a problem with some folders in my original catalog in PSE 11 so I created a new catalog that seems to be fine. However, I have quite a few edited raw files that I had saved in the version set with the original raw file using the old catalog. In the new catalog, the edited jpgs are not in with the original raw version. Is there something I could do to fix this? Also, I have not deleted the original catalog that I used.
Just installed version 11 of PhotoShop Elements. In trying to convert the Version 10 Catalog to Version 11, the conversion fails. I have repaired and optimized the Catalog with Version 10, but still no luck with the conversion. A
I am attempting to convert an Elements Organizer version 11 catalog to version 12 running on OS-X Lion. It has been running for two days stuck at 37% and appears to be cycling through files with the name breeze-xxx.XML files in the BreezeData folder. It appears to be running since the breeze file names change about every 30-60 seconds. Is this normal or should I cancel and try a different approach? I checked the BreezeData folder and there are approximately 57K breeze-xxx.XML files and my catalog has approximately 56K images.
I am upgrading to PSE 12 from V9. Version 12 does not locate/recognize my catalog from version 9. In version 9, it states that it is using catalog 3 (current). How to I get V12 to locate and import my version 9 catalog.
I have a problem to restore a catalog from a previous version of photoshop. But I have a catalog only under a .buc extension instead of a .tly extension I should have.
Can I upgrade my PSE 5.0 Catalog directly to version 12.0 without loss of data (i.e. using backup-move-restore method)? the transition to 6.0 and also to 9.0 resulted in a different data format in the catalog file.
Yesterday, I mistakenly opened up the version 3 icon and put in several hours worth of image work, metadata changes, and created a couple of collections.
1. What will be the easiest way for me to update the changes to my version 4 catalog without undoing work that I have done in that from the last couple of weeks?
I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.  I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)  As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!  I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.  I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
Is there a lightroom web gallery plug in where it creates a gallery where people can just check the box/like their favorite photos and then I can see what has the top votes?
I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.  The workflow would look something like this:  Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client  Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
I'm using Lightroom 1. I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems. The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct. It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140? How can I fix that? (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too. It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)
I had to reinstall an OS in my computer due to a virus. As a result LR 3 in no longer installed. I still have the catalog on a backup disk and have just installed and updated to LR 4.4. What is the best way to merge the V3 catalog with V4 and are there any things I should expect or look out for?
Setup: Lightroom 4.4 on OSX (Snow Leopard), 24" iMac.
Situation: Imported a large number of RAW files from camera (Canon 5D Mk III) into LR4. Several of the photos are a series of HDR shots that I want to MOVE to their own subfolder. Create the subfolder (HDR) under the date-labelled folder that the files were originally imported into. Select all files in the HDR series, and from the filmstrip, center the mouse pointer over one of the thumbnail images, and then CLICK and DRAG the files over the HDR subfolder.
Well, this where the process fails.while hovering the files over the subfolder, I get the classic "COPY" plus sign, and no key or sequence of keys will change if from COPY to MOVE. If I drop the files as is, they copy over into the subfolder. Ok, this wouldn't be such a bad thing; I can do like any other copy operation, and go back to the original folder and delete the files, right?! WRONG!!! Evidently the copied files are aliased to their originals, and if I delete from either location, they ALL go away. I had this exact problem two years ago with LR3, and had found a solution to it that fixed things so a move was an actual move. Unfortunately whatever I did to fix it went bye-bye with the upgrade to LR4, and yes, I've searched and googled myself silly trying to find the answer again, to no avail.
I recently updated from LR3 to LR4. My edit in Photoshop preferences are for a psd.  When I "edit in Photoshop" using LR4, Lightroom immediately creates a "filename-edit.psd" file. With LR3, only when I saved from within PS did it create the new file edit.psd file. I like to keep the option open to use "save as" and save just a jpg if I know this is going to be my final edit and not have a psd. Now if I save as a jpg, I end up with an extra .psd file. Is this a change in LR4 or have I not set something that I had set in LR3?
problem: once I activate lens corrections, photos with blue/purple content get a color fringe. Left version below is a 100% crop from the raw file, lens profile deactivated. Right version is a screen shot of the same raw file in the develop mode, with the lens profile active. The color fringe exports into JPEGs - so it does not seem to be a problem of the viewer or the GUI. Â I'm using an Alpha 55 with a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 Macro. I haven't been aware of this problem with prior versions, but I've found it on both, LR 4.4 under Vista 32bit and the trial version of LR 5.2 under Windows 7 64bit. It appears to be related to the blue/purple color: I first found it on a people shot with uniform blue shirts, where the blue/ skin contrast created a "ghost" frame. To make the artifact disappear, I have to deactivate lens correction entirely. Deactivating CA removal alone does not change anything.
i have an 8 giga LR4 catalog (about 300000 images).just installed the new LR5 and tried openning the LR4 cat in LR 5.it said it needs to upgrade, but in the middle of the prosses i had this messege: "lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of LR" Â i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?
I only want ONE cataglog. Today I installed and upgraded Lightroom from v. 3 to v. 4.3 which was OK.I wanted to upgrade my ONE and ONLY existing catalog keeping the same name.LR created a second catalog and added a - 2 to the name and it's a .ircat.  How can I return to having only ONE catalog and library?
#LR4 catalog:createKeyword creates a keyword inside another keyword even though the 4th parameter (parent) in the call is nil. LR3 API doc says .. 'nil to create at the top level' and thats how it worked. Looking forward to LR4 SDK documentation.
I used system repair because PS had a problem (crashed after file open) and reinstalling didn't help. This time I get an error starting PS CS3.The error message is: The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support. If I want to reinstall from the cd, its starts fine, but doens't do anything. If I start the setup from the cd, it does nothing.I tried windows - software - remove/reinstall, but also nothing happens. What can I do now? Is there a tool to remove PS?
