Lightroom :: Change Folder Structure - Keep Labels / Collections

Jan 2, 2012

I just merged two catalogs from my work laptop and my home desktop.

One has this folder structure:
YY/MM/DD

One has this:
YY/YY-MM-DD

I'd like to get them together into one unified YY/MM/DD set of folders, preserving labels and collections from both catalogs.

If I delete images out of the catalog and re-import (to get LR to automagically move/create folders) I lose labels and collections.

If I export as catalog then import as catalog (to keep labels) the folder structure doesn't change.

Creating folders manually in the finder or Lightroom would take foooorever. Is there a way to get Lightroom to move everything into the structure I want, keeping labels, etc?

Lightroom :: Folder Structure Display

Dec 6, 2013

I have been using Lightroom 3 for a number of years quite happily. My folders in Lightroom nicely reflected the folder names for their respective photo folders on my external drive. The top level folders were the years (e.g. 2012, 2013, etc) with subfolder names which reflected various photos taken that year e.g. Christmas 2013, Johnny's birthday, etc.

my last photo import my folder structure has changed in Lightroom and instead of showing the folder names it shows the number of photos in the folders. So instead of showing Christmas 2013 the folder name displays as 45 if there are 45 photos in the Christmas 2013 folder. The structure and hierarchy of the folders are still correct but the names have turned into numbers which is nonsensical and makes navigation between folders a headache.

Lightroom :: Folder / File Structure

Mar 30, 2012

This happened in LR3.7 and continued when catalog was imported into LR4.I import by date in these folders:  year/month/date..So imports today would go into the 2012 folder - March subfolder - March 30 subfolder

But recently this happens:  At the import screen, the correct sub-folder (March 30) is chosen on the right side with the correct number of images. But when the import is executed and I look at my folder structure on the left side in Library mode, the March 30 subfolder has appeared twice--once where it should be as as a subfolder to March, and once above March, and sometimes above all of 2012.  The March 30 subfolder of March is listed as empty. The folder in the wrong place has the images.  If I try to move the images to the proper folder, it says the images are already there!  If I look at the system finder, indeed the image files are where they are supposed to be, and the phantom folder does not exist.

Lightroom :: 3 Import Folder Structure

Apr 30, 2013

I'm keeping my photos in a "sort of" date based structure, i.e 2013.04.28_EVENT NAME

Previously I'd just copy the photos from the camera card into the folder on the hard drive and then run a catalog "import in place" to get LR to find the files. I have now upgraded to a Canon 7D and thought I'd try the "Import from card" function after this weekend's shoot. I had too folders to import to, but in each case LR created sub folders under each of these as "2013" and "2013.4.28". I see from other posts that this may be a default folder structure that LR imposes. Is it possible to turn this function off and just import from the card directly into the folder of my choice.

Failing this I'm faced with the prospect of moving all the files back to the "root" sub-folder and then re-cataloging, or going back to my previous method of copy first (in explorer) and then cataloging.

Lightroom :: 4 - How To Recover Folder Structure

Apr 11, 2012

While managing my folder structure I inadvertently hit the button of the parent folder on my Folder Navigator box.  As a result ALL of the time dated folders were deleted in the navigator tool. the Catalog file is still solid  and the original source photos on my hard drive are in tact.  No lost source data other than I no longer have a date structure for the folders to navigate.When I try to retrieve the folders and their accompanying structure by just clicking the button it doesn't allow me to retrieve, or reestablish, the links to the hard drive folder source files.  I assume it is because they already are imported in my catalog so there is nothing to import?

Lightroom :: Lost Folder Structure After Move Within 5

Mar 19, 2014

 I had folders on my internal drive that used the same structure as the populated folder structure on my external hard drive.  I just went through and keyworded all the internal drive photos (which happened to be iphone photos), then, on the internal drive, I selected the 2013 folder, selected all the images in that folder and dragged them to the 2013 folder on my external drive.  (all steps were done within LR5) Now, on the ext drive, when I choose 2013, I see all of the photos, but most of the subfolders now say 0. How can I get my images back into the folders they were already in?

Lightroom :: Export Photos Preserving Folder Structure?

Mar 22, 2012

I need to export a large number of photos as jpegs (about 5000). I also need to preserve the original folder structure to burn them onto DVD (as the folder names say what the photos are whereas the filenames are meaningless as generated by the camera)

How do I do this - I am using the trial version of LR4 - Doing it individually for each folder one at a time is getting tedious.

Lightroom :: Changed Folder Structure Without Backing Up Catalog

Mar 20, 2014

I have managed to have to re-load my Lightroom 5 catalog which unfortunately is a month out of date. During that month I changed my folder structure and whilst I can see the folders and images on my hard drive, my Lightroom 5 catalog is as it was a month ago without the new folder structure and with a lot of photos missing. Obviously the link between the images and Lightroom has been lost because I changed the folder structure without backing up the catalog. re-link my photos and album structure to Lightroom ?

Lightroom :: Moving From Folder Structure (EXIF / IPTC)?

Jul 18, 2013

I have +25k images organized in a folder structure today. This structure has served me well for many years, but I realize that it has it limits.Testing Lightroom made me decide to go for a new approach, but having some 'nightmares' of how to include my images from my old folder structure (25k images....)

I know I can keep my folders intact in Lightroom, and I have done this. But I also want to have some kind of description on EXIF/IPTC. Today this description is in the folder name, and only there.

How can I automatic include the images current folder name into the image file IPTC Caption or any other EXIF/IPTC field? I want to do this for all images and folders in one batch, and not select each folder manually.

The old images will be more in line with images I import from now on, and they will at least be universal searchable based on the old folder name.

Is there any software that's ready to go for this? Could it be a task for Automator?

I have access to both PC and MAC for this kind of batch operation.

Lightroom :: Rebuilding A Folder Structure Lost After Restoring From Backup

Aug 20, 2013

The external hard drive I was storing four years worth of photos on crashed the other day, and I learned the hard way that they weren't on the backup drive like I thought they were. Luckily I was able to recover at least most of them using FileSalvage. Unfurtunately, my ~15,000 images are now in three folders based on file type (JPG, TIF, DNG/NEF), don't have their original file names, and aren't in any particular order.

Is there any way short of manually sifting through the files for me to rebuild the year/month/day chronological folder structure I was storing them in? I'm running Lightroom 4.0 on a OS X 10.8.4.

Lightroom :: 5 - File Structure Change?

Jul 9, 2013

When I imported images in Lr4, into pictures with a file name of say "images" - that's what happened.  With Lr5, when I import images into pictures with a file name of "images", I get a file structure of "pictures->images->2013->2013,month,date".

I don't want the "2013=>2013,month,date" included in the file structure but I can't figure out how to exclude it.  I didn't make any chages when I upgraded and I can't find anything in preferences to change the "default" file stucture.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Expressions In Structure Labels

Feb 21, 2013

We have a Structure Style that places a hidden block at the invert of the structure which uses an expression to accomplish Placing the invert text below the structure. (please see attached).

This particular expression was written for a 1"=30 Horz. & 1"=5' Vert. scale and we use it to label our structures in the profile view.

It works great for the 1:30 scale scenario but we also produce 1:20 & 1:50 scale plan / pfl sheets.

3 label styles can be used to accomplish this but would like to create one that would work for all three scenarios if this is possible? (Goal is 1 expression & label style as opposed to 3 of each).

I thought I had it solved & have tried various formulas but can't seem to get it to recognize the various distortions in scale. (The constant being the 5' vertical dimension for all 3 options)

50/5=10

30/5=6

20/5=4

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Expression In Structure Labels For Survey

Sep 6, 2013

I am trying to make a single point label style that will return a blank line in the label if no data is provided.

The way i have it coded now my label for a structure with only two inverts comes out looking like this:

STCB 500 Rim=300.00
12" CONC N IE=295.00
12" CONC S IE=296.00
IE=300.00
IE=300.00

I would like the number of lines returned to match the actual number of inverts in the structure and leave out the place holders.:

STCB 500 Rim=300.00
12" CONC N IE=295.00
12" CONC S IE=296.00

I can work around this by having a label style for each number of pipes, but i would also like this code to be inseted into a table style and in that case i don't know of any way to assign multiple styles to one table.

My current code looks like this:
RIM=<[Point Elevation(Uft|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
<[1 SIZE(CP)]> <[1 TYPE(CP)]> <[1 DIR(CP)]> <[IE TEXT(CP)]><[1 INV(Uft|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
<[2 SIZE(CP)]> <[2 TYPE(CP)]> <[2 DIR(CP)]> <[IE TEXT(CP)]><[2 INV(Uft|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
<[3 SIZE(CP)]> <[3 TYPE(CP)]> <[3 DIR(CP)]> <[IE TEXT(CP)]><[3 INV(Uft|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
<[4 SIZE(CP)]> <[4 TYPE(CP)]> <[4 DIR(CP)]> <[IE TEXT(CP)]><[4 INV(Uft|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
LADDER <[LADDER(CP)]>

The problem is that 1 INV-4 INV are being defined by an expression that reads like

{Point Elevation}-{1 MD}

so when no data is intered for my UDP "1 MD"  it returns the point elevation. I want an equation that says if rpoitn elevation -measure down=point elevation then no data is shown.

It reads 0 as though it's reading the alignment for the pipe network. I've tried copying a label and adding reference text, creating a new label from scratch, putting 2 pieces of reference text in (1 for the station & 1 for the offset), and just doing the offset in the reference text instead of the station & offset...none of those have worked.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Adjustable Length Leaders On Structure Labels In Profile

Aug 12, 2012

Any way to label my structures in profile with a vertical line that shows the structure ID, Station number, invert data, etc. all on an adjustable length line. Ive got it worked out for how to show it on a  fixed length line, but the problem is when you have multiple structures in close proximity the labels tend to overlap. Dragging the labels upward pull the leader line compnent with them and they do not remain anchored to the structure. When I say leader, I am not referring to the dragged state as that creates a leade with a landing at an angle. What I really want is a line component that stay perfectly vertical and remains anchored to the structure insertion point even though I drag the text of the label upward. Is there a way to do this? Seaching the internet and reviewing ym texts has yet to yield an answer.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2014 Null Structure Labels In Profile Drop To Zero

Aug 20, 2013

Some of our structure styles for null structures are set to display as a block in profile.  When we label these null structures in profile, the label dimension line extends to down to zero, way off the profile view.   When I change the style to display the boundary of the null, the label pops back into place, but when I change the style back to a block, it will drop back to zero.  I just upgraded to 2014 and this did not occur in 2010-2013.  I've upgraded a drawing with existing profiles and also created a new pipe network and the results are the same.  What changed in 2014 that would cause this?

I have also noticed problems getting dragged pipe labels to stack.  I check the box to stack on drag, but it doesn't seem to do it.  We created a separate stacked label style.

Lightroom :: How To Change Keyboard Shortcuts For Applying Color Labels To Photos

Sep 6, 2012

How to change the keyboard shortcuts for applying Color Labels to photos? I have Keyboard Tamer, and I was able to remove the shortcuts for applying star ratings, but there seems to be no way to change the commands in Photo > Set Color Label.

See, many times a day I will click the white balance color temperature fileld and start typing "5500" only to then realize that the click on the entry field didn't activate it and I have now inadvertently changed the ratings and/or label colors for several photos. Super frustrating to then have to undo a bunch of times, especially when I'm viewing based on rating and/or color label, because photos can spontaneously vanish from view.

Lightroom :: Change Folder Previews - How To Replicate Hidden Photos

Mar 27, 2013

I've recently moved from iPhoto and already had a hard time figuring out how to replicate the "hidden" photos and how not to display them in lists etc. by default.

Now I'm hanging on another thing I simply couldn't find in LR4 yet but believe it must be there - at least it would be a no-brainer to implement this if I were a programmer of LR.

The feature I'm talking about is the user-definable preview picture for each "event" in iPhoto.

In LR, in the Library module, there is this folder selection menu on the left-hand panel. Now when I hover all the folders shown there the picture in the Navigator changes to resemble the respective first picture in each of the folders.

What I want to do is select a different "preview" picture for each folder and save this setting inside the Lightroom catalog I'm currently in.

How do I accomplish that - or is it impossible with the current version of Lightroom?

I used to be able to select a folder (say, all images in 2013) and then control click a smart collection I had created (rated > 1 star) and that would filter my images from 2013 and only display the ones that were rated higher then one star.

I cannot seem to get this to work in 5.3 (win7 pc fwiw).  When I do this, it shows images that aren't from 2013 (the folder I selected).

To be clear, I expect to see images from 2013 that are rated > 1 star.  If I select a folder with a single unrated image and then control click a "> 1 star" smart collection, it shows the image still.  It doesn't seem to filter, it's showing both the contents of the smart collection and my one image.
