Lightroom :: Add 3.6 Catalog To Existing 4.1 Image Set?

Jul 1, 2012

Everything I could find here talked about one-time creation of a new 4.1 catalog rather than adding 3.6 catalog to my growing 4.1 catalog. I held off converting everything until I had some time and experiewnce with LR4.1.

Now I have a moment to breathe and can move all the 3.6 stuff to 4.1. I started using Jeffery Friedl's Flickr publish under 4.1 but not 3.6 so no publishing in 3.6. I have no self-made presets so just converting all images to Process 2012 is OK with me. (I know some images will look different.)

Lightroom :: 5.3 Will Not Open Existing Catalog

Dec 13, 2013

I've used LR since 2.0 and upgraded easily each time.  I've purchased and loaded 5.3.  Clicking on LR5 icon from desktop brings up message that my catalog named "xxx".

Lightroom will create a new catalog file in the destination indicated below.  The previews will also be moved to this location and converted for use in LR 5.

I click "UPGRADE" and after a few hours of watching the little green line progress across the monitor nothing works"  I've done this twice and rebooted the PC.

Lightroom :: How To Restore Only Part Of Existing Catalog

Jul 29, 2013

I am working with lightroom 3 on a Mac with OSX 10.7.5 and time-machine for backup. Some weeks ago a partner-user accidentally changed some keywords. As a consequence a lot of pictures are now no longer findable because its keywords are missing.

Several weeks and modifications to the catalog have passed since this accident. If I restore the whole catalog back to the date of accident, all the changing will also be neutralized.

Lightroom :: 4.2 - Copy Existing Catalog To New Disc?

Sep 26, 2012

I have installed a new primary disc (C: in Windows 7 Pro) and re-downloaded LR4.2 release candidate. Can I simply copy the existing LR catalog (which I have on old disk, still accessible via USB, or from several backup copies) to the new disc and LR will work as it did previously. The drive letters of the locations of the actual image files (on other internal drives) have now changed so how do I tell LR to now use the new drive letter locations.

Lightroom :: 5.2 - Add Pictures In Catalog It Doesn't Recognize Existing Images

Oct 9, 2013

I noticed a problem with LR5.2. When creating a catalog for travel with dynamic image rendering, if you want to add some pictures in this catalog it doesn't recognize the existing images, so we have the exact same selection between "all images' and "new images". I made a few tests and with a normal catalog there is no problems but apparently the dynamic images are not recognized as existing images.

Lightroom :: 4.2 Changes Color Temp When Opening Existing Image

Dec 7, 2012

I have installed LR 4.2 two days ago, and have run into a serious problem.   When in develop mode, when I click on an image in the film strip, LR opens the image and changes the color temperature dramatically.  The blue/yellow slider moves to the far left.   I think this is the only change, but didn't check.

The action is not in the history, so I cannot undo it.  When I quit and restart, the change is still there.  There is no way to recover the pre-existing setting. Can I convert my catalog back to 3.6?

Photoshop :: How To Change Color In Existing Gradient On Existing Image

Mar 25, 2013

I have an image which is simply a one color gradient, with transparency from nothing to something. I would like to be able to access the existing gradient on the image and change only the color. I have hunted high and low and cannot see how to do this.

(I am familiar with how to make a new gradient and how to change the colors in a saved gradient via the gradient dialogue. But for the life of me, I can't see how to access an existing gradient on an image and change only this one parameter.

Lightroom :: How To Tell Which Catalog A Missing Image Belongs To

Oct 27, 2012

How can I tell which catalog a missing image belongs to?

Beating a dead horse.....Everytime I need "missing images" in LR4.2, I cannot access them, even though I am looking right at the location they presntly occupy because thye image is ALREADY IN ANOTHER CATALOG.

HOW frustrating is this...going on 8 months now. But I need the images and I suppose I could just go back and reprocess 10,000 images that are missing in my collections but I have tried many solutions offered over the months that are just impractical.

If let's say one image is already associated with another catalog that houses that collection, ( and the collection is important because it has the edits), i want to go to that catalog instead.

Lightroom :: 4.3 - Add Copyright Watermarking Image (PNG) To Existing TIFF Files For Website Use

Dec 4, 2013

I'm using Lightroom 4.3 to add a copyright watermarking image (png) to existing tiff files for website use. I have several different png files made using Photoshop Elements, with the copyright text set at different transparencies, eg 20/30/40 percent opacity, so that whichever one I use in Lightroom I can always leave the opacity setting in the watermarking dialog at 100% and the images are scaled proportionally to 35%.

The problem is that every time I export the files after setting the watermark position etc, I notice that there is a noticeable loss of both contrast and colour in the newly made tiff files.

Lightroom 4.3, Windows 7, 64-bit.

Lightroom :: Missing Image Size Info In Catalog?

Feb 16, 2014

Many of my catalog images (LR 3.6) do not show file size or pixel information for the associated image file.  I suspect this is a hangover from an import of photos from Photoshop Elements which I used in the past.  The problem is that when I put such an image in a slideshow or web gallery, the exported image is not properly displayed.

To get around this, I can export the image files to a hard drive directory in original format, and then re-import them into my web gallery collection.  The correct file size info is then available in the catalog, and the image reproduces correctly in the exported gallery.

I know (or at least hope) this is a kludge, and there is a more straightforward method to correct the catalog.  I have many photos with incomplete image information.

Lightroom :: All Image Folders In One Master Catalog On One Disk

Aug 31, 2012

I keep all my image folders in one Master Catalog on one disk.

My system of filing is to have a main folder, say "Airshows", with sub folders named  "Original-RAW Files" and "Finished Files".

Each sub folder is then further sub divided into "Show 1", "Show 2", "Show 3", etc.

This system also enable me to  duplicate  my files in such a way that they can be accessed by programmes other than Lightroom.

I also like to make Collections of specific planes which appear and therefore the Collections can include images taken at any  number of individual shows but as LR3 keeps the Folders and the Collections in different sections, this entails looking in two different locations  for any images taken at Airshows.Another disadvantage is that I believe LR Collections cannot be accessed by other third party programmes should I wish to change from Adobe.

I would like maintain my current filing system (which suits my purposes), but wish to find a way to file say,"Spitfire" Collection as  "AirshowFinished FilesSpitfire" so that all files are kept together.

Is there a way to achieve this without resorting to making duplicate image files ?

Lightroom :: Delete Folder Containing Master Image And Its Virtual Copies From LR4 Catalog?

Jun 6, 2013

I have created virtual copies of an image in Lightroom 4 and I am wondering what will happen to these if I delete the folder containing the master image and its virual copies from the LR4 catalog? Will the virtual copies be automatically deleted? If so, is this reversible in any way? Will i recover these virual copies if I add the folder back into LR's catalog later on?

Also will Adobe Bridge be able to read these virtual copies in both before and even after the folder has been removed from LR4? Or is the 'virtual copy' functionality specific to LR and that the only way to preserve it is to keep the original image within LR and never delete it?

Lightroom :: Can Update Catalog On Laptop And Then Transfer Updates To Master Catalog On Desktop

Jan 13, 2011

I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.

I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)

As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR,  then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!

I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.

I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…

Lightroom :: Sharing Catalog - Does Housing Catalog And Images On External Hard Drive Work

Jan 15, 2014

I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library  to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.

The workflow would look something like this:

Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client

Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?

Lightroom :: How To Merge Catalogs By Importing A Catalog Into A Master Catalog

Dec 15, 2012

I'm using Lightroom 1.  I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems.  The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct.  It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140?  How can I fix that?  (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too.  It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)

I am trying to find a faster way to save my images. I shoot in raw, save raw images as jpegs after editing them in Camera Raw. I am using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac version 10.7.5. When I save, I either have to save as a copy of the exisiting image, or replace the image I'm working on. Other forums I've read said to make an action to save and create a function key to make this process faster, but my function keys aren't working, and playing the action I've created still makes a copy of the image.

My question, as I need to recreate these from scratch, how do I import an existing image to another existing image and use it as a alpha channel. So far each time i have tried the original information is overwritten.

Here's a screengrab of what I'm trying to achieve. To recap, I'm trying to use image 1 as an alpha channel in image 2 (as shown)...

GIMP :: Add Gradient To Existing Image?

Jan 10, 2013

I am unable to add a gradient to an image. I do the following:

-Select a gradient (I just selected a default gradient to start off with)

-Then I select a region of the image that I want to apply the gradient to (I use the rectangle select tool)

-Then I switch back to the gradient tool

-Then I hover the cursor over the selected region of the image. This is where I expect to be able to click the mouse down and drag to create the gradient. However, when the cursor hovers over the image the cursor turns into a black circle with a line through it (which obviously is telling me "no, you can't do this"). Obviously, when I click and drag, nothing happens.

Photoshop :: Add Rectangle Shapes To An Existing Image

Nov 25, 2005

I need to add rectangle shapes to an existing image.

I tried using the rectangle tool but each time i click on the background option after the rectangle is drawn, it disappear.

The rectangle will only appear again when i select the rectangle shape from the layer panel.

Is there anyway where i can make the rectangle show on the image?

i tried reading up some of the thread posted and i saw some thread mentioning doing something to the path. How is the path used?

I'm not really familiar with using paths and layers, so i need a really layman's term of explaination.

For more info, i actually set the colour of the rectangle fill 100% opacity 100%.

anyway wat is the purpose of setting opacity?

cos i tried ranges between 0 - 100 and there doesn't seem to have much difference.
