I cannot synchronize to the catalog. The proccess never finish and don't find any photo.
I'm using Geosetter to add GPS coordinates to my photos, it also happens that I add keywords to photos directly from Windows Explorer (it's the fastest way in some cases).
The problem with doing that is : PSE8 does not "see" the update. Any other way than removing the containing directory from catalog's scope and readdint it ?
I keep my photos in a folder, with hundreds of sub-folders.
I use Photo Mechanic for tagging, selecting, purging and meta-data management becuase it is very fast. Then I import into LR by asking it to synchronize with the top folder.
The problem is that LR4 (and LR3 before it) identifies a couple of thousand photos as being "new" and needing to be imported, then when I tell it to Import by clicking the "Synchronize" button, it grunts for a minute or two and then comes back and says "No photos or videos were found to import". So if there is nothing to import, why does it keep saying there are 2,563 "new" photos? It hangs on this same number for weeks at a time, though it has crept up from LR3 when it was only about 1600.
Why is Synchronize out of sync? How can I get it really sychronized and keep it synchronized?
I have the box regarding JPGs adjacent RAW checked so that they are treated as separate images. I've tried checked and unchecked and it has no effect on this problem.
I'm using Lightroom 4.2 (I have used Lightroom since the very beginning) and I found following problem:
I am in the development moduleI select all photos in my folderI activate the automatic synchonizationI change the selected user defined lens from the Tamron 70-200/2.8 (which is wrong) to the correct Tamron 28-75/2.8 (-> there's a known problem in the automatic detection of the different Tamron lenses because of the ID in the lenses, so automatic detection doesn't work - tell me if I am wrong!)The progress bar shows that it's writing the changes to the selected photos (which takes a moment)Then it seems to be synchronized and I continue workingAfter some photos it shows the 70-200 mm lens to be selected again!
So obviously it didn't sychronize all selected photos!
My system: Windows 8 64-Bit computer, 16 GB RAM
After input keywords on each photos located on server from my computer, it can be synchronized? Then ohter multiple computers can find the photos on server searching by keywords.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI edited a picture and saved it in the same directory, as a PNG. On my next launch of Lightroom (2.1), I right-clicked on the folder and said "Synchronize folder". The file still isn't shown in Lightroom. If I pick "Show in Finder" on the folder, the PNG is right there and it opens up just fine in Preview when double-clicked.
View 17 Replies View RelatedWhen I select the Synchronize option, it says there are over 295,000 images, which is impossible. 15 to 20,000 at most. So I never start it, cause I'm afraid of what it's trying to catalog. Why would it be giving me such a number?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI took a trip yesterday and wanted to tag my images with gps data. I used my Samsung Galaxy 8.9 tablet's camera to record gps info by taking a shot at each location. The gps data is in the jpegs. I copied the images into my folder containing the images from my camera. I can use Photo GPS Extractor to view the image's location on Google Maps. The image location is also indicated on Google maps when viewing on the tablet. But, when I synchronise the folder to add the images to the Lightroom Library, the gps info is no longer available. The gps info is not available to ANY program after synchronising the folder in Lightroom. It seems as if Lightroom is removing that info from the metadata.
Windows 7 64bit, Lightroom 4.1
I am new to Lightroom, and just purchased LR 4, upgraded to LR 4.1 and catolog my photo files. After this, I uploaded some photos from a SD card to a common folder (e.g. "Uploads 2012") on my hard drive using LR. This worked well. I then used Windows Explorer to drag/drop those files into their respective proper folders (there were many files on the card that were appropriate for different existing folders on my computer).
Here's where the problem starts. Prior to this uploading session, I had 297 files in a photo folder. Afterwards, I had 427 photos in this same folder. Using LR 4.1, I chose to "synchronize folder", then "import new photos" (it recognizes that there are new photos in this dialogue box). The program tells me this task is completed, but afterwards there remain 297 photos in the LR folder, and 427 photos in the location in Windows Explorer.
Some of my folders are in norwegian special characters (æøå). When I try to synchronize such a folder it can say that I have 152 new photos (all the photos in this folder) and that 152 photos are missing. When I use "Show in Finder" all the photos are ok. I don't like the folders to not be in sync, so I go on and synchronize the folders. Then I end up with two folders inside LR, but one is grayed out and contains 0 photos. I delete the grayed out one and continue to use LR. When I try synchronize folders right after this, it looks fine. But after a while the problem is back and I have to repeat the synchronizing. If I select "Update Folder Location" instead, the problem is fixed.
I use Lightroom 4.1 RC (but the problem was present in LR 4 as well). I have never used LR before, so I don't know about previous versions. My os is Mac OS X 10.7.3.
I have a project that for security reasons requires that media NOT be stored in a cloud. I'm trying to build a system that keeps a Lightroom catalog and the pictures synced between two or more Macs.
My current plan is to use Chronosync to synchronize catalogs on the Macs, and have all the media on a network server so that each Mac uses the same path to reference the original. But I can see two ways of this method breaking:
If both catalogs get modified simultaneously, or at least before a syn. [kind of just how it is, but could be managed with discipline]If some media is shot while the laptop is in the field, then I can sync the catalog and media when we get back, but the Lightroom catalog will still be pointing at the media on the local storage on the laptop. That second case worries me. Since Lightroom is nondestructive that avoids the truly dangerous case of someone on the laptop continuing to work on the wrong (local) copies of the pictures, not realizing that they're not updating the shared copies, but still, it seems that I should actually MOVE, not mirror the laptop data to the server when we get back into the network so that we are forced to locate the new media next time we try to access it from either computer.
Actually -- IS Lightroom truly nondestructive? Does metadata get changed in the DNG, or is all metadata stored in the catalog? Is there an option I'm going to need to set?
Is there a better way to handle this?
What is the best way to make relinking files go smoother? Maintain the folder structure relative to... what?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Library module, Fodlers Pane, I have a Local Disk (D:)My Pictures folder. When I do "Synchronize folders" on My Pictures, not only does LR un-hide the parent folder of My Pictures (which I had previously hidden), but it also adds to the library all the sub-folders within that parent folder, i.e. all siblings of My Pictures. I only would like to synchronize the content of My Pictures (and its sub-folders), I do not want to also add all sibling folders of My Pictures and their content to the library. Any way I can do that?
I am running LR 4.3 under Windows 7.
Recently upgraded to LR 4.1.The copy and paste settings and also synchronize setttings in LR 4.1 has stopped working. Rebooted, nothing new added.
View 14 Replies View RelatedLightroom 3.6 is not finding my newly exported .jpg files when I use Synchronize Folder. This has been working for me since I got LR many months ago, but today after I make adjustments to a .cr2 file and export the file to a .jpg file in the same folder, synchronize folder isn't finding the new .jpg files. Interestingly I used Windows Live Photo Gallery to copy/resize one of the .jpg files I'd exported, and LR *does* find that file, just not the originally exported one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having this problem whenever I synchronize a folder that images have been added into.
Example: I have a folder of images in LR; I export all those images with a watermark, resized, etc. into a separate folder of proofs; even though I performed that batch process using LR, for some reason the app still won't see those images until I synchronize; when I do synchronize, it is shifting the color temp to +8 and the tint to -11; I then have to go back and undo that color temp shift.
How do I get LR to stop changing the color temp of images when synchronizing?
I believe that only exporting the smart collection settings is not enough. I have in my collections a hierarchy of collection set, collection and smart collection that works with my workflow:
-special [CS]
-- pano [SC]
-- fuse [SC]
-themes
-- holiday... [SC]
-- ...
- worklist [CS]
-- dominant color [CS]
--- dominant color to review [SC]
--- dominant color reviewed [C]
-- weather [CS]
etc.
-- geography [CS]
etc.
Being able to export the hierarchy from one specific node would be great when I switch from catalog to catalog. After all, smart collections content can be re-created.
I've seen that in the DB, there are these two tables that would need to be 'copied' : agLibraryCollection & agLibraryCollectionContent. Their IDs when importing in the new catalog would probably pose a problem if we were just to import them like that.
On the other hand, there are in the SDK some functions to go through the collections and some functions to create collections, collection-sets, smartCollections...
Would it be difficult to include such a functionality in a future release ?Would it be difficult or possible to write in the mean time a plugin that would do just that: import/export collection hierarchies ?
I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.
I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
I'm using Lightroom 1. I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems. The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct. It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140? How can I fix that? (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too. It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have an 8 giga LR4 catalog (about 300000 images).just installed the new LR5 and tried openning the LR4 cat in LR 5.it said it needs to upgrade, but in the middle of the prosses i had this messege: "lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of LR"
i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?
I only want ONE cataglog. Today I installed and upgraded Lightroom from v. 3 to v. 4.3 which was OK.I wanted to upgrade my ONE and ONLY existing catalog keeping the same name.LR created a second catalog and added a - 2 to the name and it's a .ircat.
How can I return to having only ONE catalog and library?
My catalog 3 did not transfer to catalog 4. I tried to manually transfer files. Now I have as many as eight copies of some pictures, none of others.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found out while doing HDR panoramas that WB is not synchronizing on all images opened in ACR 6.7 (mac). I never set WB to AWB on my Pentax K5 for that work (and use a whibal card, custom WB or even "daylight") but have found out that ACR reads a "custom" (?) value that is not correct (?) and so I have to select the "as shot" value and synchronize (or set a °K/tint value). It only works if you change the value of each image individually - like 32 for a Pano HDR - clicking "done" every time!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really want to be able to use the new Synchronize feature of PP (Clip > Synchronize), but I tried selecting two video clips (a video clip, and two audio tracks), and right-clicking, but the option to Synchronize is greyed out. If I select certain clips, then it appears, but I don't see what the pattern is. It seemingly picks random clips to not sync.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have successfully used the "merge clips" feature so I know that the system is capable of syncing audio + video tracks.
HOWEVER the "Syncronize" feature will not work for me in the timeline. For example I drop in one .R3d file and one audio file from an external recorder. I select them all and right click to bring up the menu and "Syncronize" is greyed out and not available.
I've watched several tutorials where people bring multiple clips into and sync them using this method.
I'm guessing that there is a setting or a default somewhere that is not allowing this "sync" to be applied
It is quite obvious you can change the duration for any individual photo display time on the video track. I also see that you can stretch or compress the music track to fit time of the slides. However, this would distort the audio track to some extent. Is it possible to select some or all of the photos and automatically set an average time so the sequence will equal the play time of the audio (ideally one file, multiples, or complete audio track)? Also, Is there an upper limit on the number of photos that can be in the video track (obviously there would be an upper size limit for a given media that would be used)? What are some of the upper limits reported and have rendering issues resulted at some poin?
